The comment section is hilarious hating on a car for the wrong reason. I've seen so many people on the road and highway riding a corolla. Why? Because it's affordable, dependable, last longer, and the service is fantastic I mean the first two years you purchase a brand new Corolloa now you get 2yrs free maintenance, you can't beat that anywhere else. Why? Because Toyota make good vehicles that last longer compared it's competitors. l I own a 2017 SE Corolloa for about 3 months now and I've had no problems with the car because it rides good, safety features are great, and the gas mileage is good, I think style looks fine. A lot people are too obsess over flashy cars that don't last long and they want unnecessary overloaded tech inside the car.
Agreed, my first car was passed down to me by my mom and it was a 2007 Toyota Corolla CE and up until recently she rode like a dream. We had to Savage her for parts but she was still up and running. Really good on gas. Toyota's do make good cars.
Owning a longer lasting, safe, and reliable car is a great selling point. But in this very competitive market, many people demand more. I test drove five cars in the compact segment in search of my next car. The Corolla fell to the bottom in comparison to the Mazda3, Elantra, and Cruze when it came to performance, handling, comfort, and tech. I almost decided on the Mazda3 but then I test drove the 2018 Civic EX-T and understood what all the hype was about. This 10th gen Civic got all the check marks: Resale value, fit and finish, features, comfort, styling, handling, and performance. The performance obliterated just about every car that I test drove except for maybe the Mazda3. I heard about the carbon deposit issue with current turbo design. But that wasn’t enough to detract me from buying the Civic. If I’m going to own a car for three to six years, I want to enjoy the driving experience. The Civic easily transcends this segment from simple utility driving into, dare I say it, a fun ride!
I was thinking about a Corolla because I need something really good on mileage and dependable, no complaints with your's? My other choice is a Honda Civic, but they're more expensive.
This guy is like most car reviewers. They prefer unreliable sporty cars over cars that are practical. The Corolla is a fine car that has been a round for over 50 years. They are reliable, comfortable and good on gas. That’s all that matters. You should review a Corolla for what it is and not what’s its not. If you can’t, go find a real job. Thumbs down to you.
@@Yammie_Moto671 False. Civics are absolutely not as reliable as Corollas. I speak from experience with both. You're biased, too, if you are speaking without backing up your claims.
Corolla has reliability. They often run 300k+ miles with few issues. Lots of other cars can't make it to 150K without major repairs. So, a used Corolla with 150K miles is still worth something and is still easy to sell.
webcomment Most of the fords my family have owned have made it to 300-500 k no major issues ,but as I'm sure you'll agree, both brands are notoriously reliable, other American brands and Japanese brands can't match them, kia and Hyundai are great Korean brands and don't even get me started on the reliability issues of European brands.
Kevin B Ford has made some reliable cars, but a lot of them are not. The newer Ford Focus are shit, tranny problem at around 100k miles. Toyota is undeniably more reliable than Ford and yes Hyundai, Kia and Volkswagen (U.S) are a complete money pit just like European cars.
Agreeded and the CVT is a fantastic transmission and it handles better than most (not the best obviously but it rides wells) so I hate how everyone judges it when im sure they have never even sat in one
As a teen driver that just bought a used 17 Corolla XSE I love the car and I think it handles well and it has good pick up off the line I have no complaints I think it’s a great car
I just bought a used 2017. In my opinion the CVT is flawless. It’s perfectly fine in a car this size. Mine is also the base model, but comes so well equipped that you would think it had an upgrade package
I love my Corolla(2014). It's smooth, comfortable, reliable. It doesn't shake or make weird noises. It handles well, the steering feels great. This guy shits on the cvt transmission but I love it. Revs exactly where I want it to and stays there. Gunning most price point cars on a highway entrance ramp makes me feel like it's about to have an aneurysm. I'm not saying it's fast by any means, but you can just push it and be confident and comfortable
Corolla's were meant to be beginner cars ... dare I say ... throw away cars. When you need a first car ... reliability and price ... the Corolla. that way in 185 years after your Corolla breaks down you go back to Toyota and upgrade. Simple Marketing. If you want something flashier ... then .. get something flashier. Don't blame the Corolla for not turning into a Mercedes.
Not sure what you mean by a Corolla is a "Throw away car". My daughter is still driving the 98, I’m still driving the 2003, and if history tells us anything, my wife’s 2016 will take her to retirement and beyond.
Toyota Corolla / Honda Civic / Volkswagon bug / Hyundai ... just to name a few ... were originally branded as beginner cars for the streamlined budget conscious consumer (even though the Bug was originally produced by the Germans via WWII under Hitler .. but that's a different story). They were not as flashy as they are now; sometimes they were seen as a joke. But as long as they were reliable (which they were and are) the marketing was that the consumer would like it so much they would stick with the brand for years to come. One might still have their Corolla but also might want to upgrade within the brand ... like a Camry or a 4Runner. Brand Loyalty is now created. Now, in these days, we want it all. If the Corolla is to remain at a price level to ensure easy purchase access ... one cannot expect a Corolla to drive around like a $50K car with all the bells and whistles and give it bad reviews because of that.
Just got one with 44k miles. Considering my last car was a 1999 civic with half the parts rusting away and a foot long gash in the radiator, this thing might as well be a Lamborghini to me.
Love Micah's reviews but I think he's being a little hard on the Corolla. The point about the cupholder tells you there's little to find fault with this car.
I did two sudden relocations for work from Phoenix to Atlanta and back to Phoenix.. two months apart in Corolla se 2017 and with my car filled to it's brim with bare essentials.. it was reliable companion all those 4000 miles..
I bought a used Corolla XSE 2017 fully loaded and I love it it’s so sporty and dare I say fun corollas have something about them that make them special
@@Yammie_Moto671 actually your not completely right Honda’s reliability had went down and so has Mazda Toyota makes great cars I bought a Corolla 2017 call me biased but there’s something about that car that just makes me never want to get out of it i love that car and maybe that’s why so many people buy the Corolla because it’s a special little car
@@connordurham8216 If you keep up with maintenance Hondas can last just as long as Toyotas. Toyotas are overrated in terms of reliabilty. I don't take back what I said about Toyotas being boring cars which they are. Their focus is in quality control. My family drives Toyotas, I've owned a Toyota/Scion, Nissan, Infiniti, Scion, and now Honda.....Toyotas are reliable vehicles but Ive never loved em. They have no charm or novelty.
@@Yammie_Moto671 well clearly you don’t understand the purpose of Toyota cars and it is true Honda isn’t as reliable as Toyota look at the Odyssey with transmission issues look at the oil dilution problems and new Toyota cars are getting better with there handling
@@connordurham8216 You're so full of sh*t. My Scion which is a Toyota, kept burning oil. A family member of mine had a Camry that kept burning oil. The Toyota Tacoma's are known to have transmission and chassis issues also a new issue with the differentials leaking. You don't know what you're talking about. You gotta take what Scotty says with a grain of salt, kiddo.
Jake Patterson I just hit 50k, I have original Michelin tires and the dealer said they are still good condition no need to replace. I’m in love with this car.
I just bought my 17 Corolla XSE fully loaded with 144k on the odometer and I absolutely love that car it’s such an easy car to live with and it feels special
I’m going to buy my first car hopefully soon. I have settled with the Corolla because IT’S RELIABLE. I’m also going to get it in manual because manual is the way to go! I’m 19 Edit: Sometime at the start of July; I got a 2014 Toyota Corolla S in 6 speed manual, and I love it so much! I bought it with 66,000 miles on it :)
I just bought my 17 Corolla XSE fully loaded s and I love it it has high mileage but I know the previous owner he loved that car but wanted something bigger so he traded it in and that’s when I bought the car but I love the car no complaints
Honestly, what's the big deal about Android Auto and Apple CarPlay? You could always pair your music through Bluetooth. I would have to plug in my phone every time I want to use it. Google maps is the only thing worth it for AA/AC.
Joshua R For using Google Maps without having to look at your phone and use car makers shitty Garmin-like GPS systems. It's also more stable and way easier to use than any car makers systems I can think of. It's what car software should be.
Joshua R almost all of their competitors offer them. Android auto and Apple car play are coveted features. Toyota needs to integrate them if the company wants to stay competitive. People like options. I read somewhere that they plan to support both systems but only time will tell. Still waiting for a reviewer to demonstrate new 2018 Camry's infotainment system.
I just bought a 2018 "Red" Corolla SE and love it. Firstly the CVT dual-clutch is decent. I had a 2016 Mazda 6 and a 2017 Ford C-max....solid performers, but their CVT's had horribly annoying rubber-banding affects. The Corolla doesn't at all which is a suprise. I do like the style and engine sounds. It sounds like my dad's corolla 30 years ago...kinda retro, and reliable back then also. Of course a Mazda 3 and Honda Civic have a more refined feel....but the Corolla reigns supreme in reliability and low costs to maintain. It's comfortable to drive, but is a little difficult to crawl in and out of with my 6', 250# frame. So far i haven't gotten less the 35 mpg.
The Corolla has sold over 50 million cars in over 150 countries since 1966. Not everyone wants a sports car but a reliable car that will take them from point A to B without any problems, for many years. Maintenance and Insurance is cheap, fills up with $20 and has decent cargo and passenger space. I highly recommend a Corolla because I own one too.
This car is not about being better than other cars, its about getting to point A to point B, & saving money. That is how I look at it. My car is now at 61,000 and it has no issues not once gave me a problem, but I also take good care of my car. As long as im getting to where I need to be at back home. I'm good. Now on the other hand those who are against this car, don't pay attention to it.
I got my 2017 Corolla in 2018 with 6700 miles for 16k. Loving it ever since. Now it has 90k miles in it. Had to replace that canister (I think this is what is called) other than that no issues. Love this car.
The point is the Corolla is a good commuter car--- with some special features that come standard. Care about ride quality, back seat space, etc. better look at the Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Hyundai Elantra, etc. Same options if one decides to go with hatchbacks.
Beautiful car. I own a white Toyota Corolla SE. Super low maintenance, and I'd totally recommend it to anyone. People hating on this car mostly because it doesn't look good (according to them), says a lot. Very little maintenance complaints I've seen about this car. So if you're looking for a car that works good, this is it. If you don't like it cause it's "not cool looking," then that's just you. That's all I can tell ya'.
I love the Corolla. They sold me a damaged 2014 (exterior demo car) and going in to get a 2017..I love how it rides and how exterior. My neighbor bought a Honda Civic 2018..looks like an egg in the back. I prefer the Corolla.
I just bought my 17 Corolla XSE fully loaded and I noticed that and it was weird at first because I wasn’t used to the Corollas steering but now it’s actually fun
Just bought a 2017 corolla le. And idk what this dude is talking about unless I’m on the highway doing 80 I can’t hear the engine and that goes for high end cars too my aunt owns a 2019 Chevy Tahoe and it’s the same. The ride feels like you’re gliding unless you’re on a really bumpy road, I feel like this guy is just looking for stuff to complain about the steering wheel and most of the stuff your touching is leather and good quality and Toyota’s hold their price because of their reliability so when you’re done paying it off and you’ve added 100k miles to it it only lost 3k in value that’s why Toyota’s are great first cars...it’s not even Toyota’s high end version sedan that’s the Camry
The cvt is just fine the cvt in the Honda will break down at 100k miles while the Toyota’s cvt will go for 300k miles or more this car has a purpose cheap reliable transportation. This car is not made to be flashy or cool as I said cheap reliable transportation. I honestly feel like KBB is against Toyota.
Most people who buy a Corolla do so because they are reliable and will last a long time while getting good mileage. The long-term reliability automatically eliminates the Chevy cruze as all things GM are garbage 😄 Honda? Definitely better than Chevy but, I'd wage you'll do best with the Toyota Corolla. That turbo civic is going to have problems because it's a turbo down the road.
Best deal you could ask for ... my 18 has 175000 miles and ive never done more then tires oil breaks and 2 ball joints.. only time the engine light went on was from the gas cap left open
I think Toyota needs to stop trying to make the Corolla "sporty". They should go with four wheel independent suspension for better ride comfort, improve front seat design, and continue work on fuel economy and reliability.
Toyota is the leading manufacturer in reliability. And if you have a car model that is light, fun to drive, and can accelerate very quickly, while also maintaining that reliability, why the hell not add a little sportiness to it? Obviously they’re not marketing it like they are the 86. They’re just adding a little fun to an already great little car. Why not give it a spoiler and put some nice wheels on it?
I’m looking to buy this car, currently driving a 2009 Dodge with 155k miles I need good fuel economy, reliable transportation for work and bringing my kid to school and doctor appointments. They can keep the sporty Mazda and expensive Honda I want practicality!!!!
I drove a year or two older out of surprise from fox rentals(free upgrade) for my commute through San Francisco. I really enjoyed the car, it felt premium compared to the Chevy sonic.... Great on fuel economy! The SF was very confusing due to finding a parking structure... Other than that, I'm considering it as my first purchase later in the year
@@connordurham8216 I've had mine since 2019! I put $7k down and a family member offered to pay the rest without asking. I pay them $208 each month now so I'm lucky. What do you like most about it?

Love my '17 Corolla SE. Does everything that I want and the refresh looks cool. When my Corolla goes to my daughter, I'm getting the hatch or the CH-R. I've had a Toy since '74 Corolla SR5. Not leaving anytime soon. I thought that the final assembly in U.S. would affect reliability but it hasn't. Toyota is still a well made car w/ great resale value.
KBB gotta say u really put the fun in automotive reviews....a car I would never buy let alone look at and somehow I sat through ur whole video great job 👍
This car is everywhere because it's the best in its class. Lol best point A to point B and lasts the longest. Not everyone is an enthusiast, and a majority of us subscribed to this page are the enthusiasts. This appeals to the masses and Toyotas marketing >
Jerrod Voong this car SELLS on its NAME, AND REPUTATION,. THAT DOESN'T MEAN THEY CAN'T BUILD A CRAPPY CAR. and IT IS. It sells to people who know NOTHING ABOUT CARS! NOT even where to pour the oil in. And to young men today who can't even change a flat tire themselves. This car is Severely underpowered, has a lousy cvt, wanders all over the road, and not even the best mpg compared to others in its class. And this is your idea of BEST IN ITS CLASS??? GO DRIVE A NEW CIVIC, MAZDA 3, ELANTRA, you'll certainly change your mind.
I have a 2018 le corolla similar to this car so it comes with Bluetooth phone and music, automatic braking, lane assist, radar cruise control, and its the most reliable machine on the road aside from a Tacoma, yeah the car wont do 0-60 in 5 seconds top speed is limited to 112 mph but for people who want a safe reliable efficient car this is the choice
I think Toyota is starting to lose their mind. Sure, there cars are still selling like hot cake, but Mazda and Honda make far better cars (in comparison to this car), and that's not even mentioning Chevy, Ford, and all the other cars in this class. If I had to chose, which I did, I'd pick the Honda or Mazda over this in a heart beat. No android auto or Apple car play? Come on Toyota. I thought you guys were trying to attract younger buyers. Guess Honda got you beat there.
Toyota doesn't sell their cars with "excitement." Their cars are - for the most part - appliances. They sell on their brand's reputation for reliability, affordability, and long-term resale value. In other words, Toyota will continue selling cars to the masses, because vast majority of folks don't really care for cars. Us car enthusiasts are not the majority. Most people just want a car that can take them from Point A to Point B without having to do frequent maintenance. And for them, Toyota vehicles are perfect. Heck, Toyotas are wonderful commuting cars. You're not gonna have any fun driving in rush hour traffic, be it in a Miata or a Corolla. Might as well get the appliance car.
MrRedskins0021 that's true but they can continue to be reliable while injecting a bit of style and fun. I love what they have done with the 2018 Camry and I think they are on the right path with this TNGA platform.
I don't understand why people hate on Toyota so much. I have a 94 pickup, an 07 Tacoma, and a 2017 tacoma and haven't had major problems with any of them. Some of my friends have fords and bmws they have had multiple problems with their cars. I really don't get they Toyota is so hated
From my perspective, the normal design right now in the other corner of the globe is much much beautiful and stylish than the USA version !!!!!! don't you see how the USA version similar to previously ECO model 20001?
I considered the IM while car shopping. Sucks the Corolla IM is monospec and you can't even option it as well as the sedan. The IM has a better feeling interior, has hatchback capability, and doesn't look as weird as the sedan but no sunroof and no Apple CarPlay ruined it (once you have Apple CarPlay you don't want to live without it). Chose the Civic and have no regrets! Has all the options I wanted, feels better to drive and better built, and I always get compliments on it.
Adrian Valdivia I have been looking myself for a certified pre-owned, the Toyota has better safety, standard features and reliability, the Sentra has a better touch screen infotainment system and better interior options.
Adrian Valdivia NEITHER!! They are the worst ones you could pick!! CIVIC, ELANTRA, Mazda 3 , all much better, more power, handle better, more comfortable,. DRIVE ALL before deciding.
All the people who comment right above me you better have 26 grand in your bank accunts then talk about the cars you like and the one you hate 2017 Toyota Carolla is fully loaded from inside i mean im in love with this car, all the names you guys been mentioning it i have drive them all pretty much but im still gonna go for 2017 SE Carolla not comparing to other cars but its not that bad as bad as you guys are saying, once again first have 26 thousand dollars in your bank accunts then talk about cars
OMG! I have a base model 2004 Corolla, and the "chincy" rear seat cupholders Micah mentions at the 3:40 mark are EXACTLY the same! They haven't upgraded those in all these years!?! Really, Micah was right! Hide that shame!
Carolla haters will find something to hate about it styling lack of complicated tech or lack of sportiness they forget Toyota's bulletproof reliability and as far as having a high resale value that's because carolla's are still on the road to be resold eventually a lot of times they just get handed down. Btw 2018 and up have Apple car play and Android auto if you cant drive a car without it
i am looking to get corolla. Looking to keep until the car dies. Kind of skeptical about cvt reliability. I drive manual well also. Should I go with cvt or manual.
yes, its noisy, and the directions wobbles around if you dare to take your hands of for a minute BUT common, its works perfectly, bulletproof and all the security is appritiated. This car gets too much hate, and yes, its always coming from americans who only care about shine and the cheap 's' added in the name lol...
YazeedSaber it looks very terrible I don't understand why people call the good looking cars ugly and the ugliest hideous boring car pretty it's so annoying and the next generation will be beyond ugly!
The road noise is completely out of hand. If you buy one, get it dampened, otherwise you will lose your hearing over time. I already had to set up an appointment with my hearing doctor.
I know corollas are good cars, but I’m a Honda fan, I’ve owned three civics and I just can’t get myself to ever look into buying a corolla. Personally I feel like the civic has a nicer interior and exterior. No hate on Toyota’s, but I just can’t ever see myself in one. 🤷🏻♀️
One of the best cars in the segment, and it looks cute too. Let's hope a full redesign for the 2019 model year for the Corolla coming soon, with the TNGA platform.
130hp is still extremely weak and dangerous for merging on highways. It would been better if Toyota gave at least 145hp and a new engine instead of the sluggish 2Zz engine. Still I love my 2015 Corolla.
review the car for what it is, not for what it is not. Its safe, reliable and cheap. Just because its in the same class with, lets say, Ford, doesnt mean anything. Buy a focus and see how many service hours you have to put into it over the time and compare it with this toyota. Don't even start with Honda in reliability. What is the point in having apple car crap or whatever kids call it these days, if the car spends half the time on an elevator.
This review is spot on. I drove a New Corolla recently (rental car though) and the interior felt so ridiculously cheap. A friend has the new Civic and it feels so much better and higher quality.
