I bought my Street Scrambler based on your review and have owned it for the last 5 months and all I can say is " I Freakin Love it!" Power where you need it, from the start. I upgraded the seat to the Bonneville T120 Comfort seat and changed the mirrors to bar-end mirrors for a lower profile. It is a like a pair of your 'ol jeans... it just fits!!

I drove past that pub yesterday and thought of you doing a review and 24 hours later here's a review!! Great looking bike and sounds lovely. I'm not really into the Retro bikes but I do like that and also with the bonus of short seat height. Excellent review as always TMF, all the best.

Hello TMF ..Guy Wolff in New England here ..I have two days and 300 miles on one of these ..I just got off of 15 K miles and two seasons on a Yamaha 1700 road star.. My riding habits are 70% back, very bumpy, roads (DO you call those C roads ? ) 15% dirt roads and 15% highways (M roads ? ) ... I consider this bike a back-road roadster .. The suspension is a bit light but my feet are in the right place to stand (or Post) if I see something coming up and the bike is planted and stable in the twisties &.tall enough that I am not scraping pegs . It has enough pep and really more usable power on the highway at the 70 to 85 /90 when you have need than I had with the 1700 .. I love the light weight after the 750 pound Road Star as well .It is great at turning twisties into straight lines. The pipes are hot when you are in town traffic on a warm day (and the water cooling fan makes magic heat in stopped traffic ). Also I wish it had a larger gas tank but all in all it is a perfect bike for my use .. I will get a center stand, heated grips, a long flat seat and a real rack for rain gear or my banjo as the seasons go on .. Thanks for the great reviews on all these wonderful bikes .. If you want a real hoot give the Moto Guzzi V7 stone 111 a ride .. Welcome back to the 1970's ! If you are on FB you are welcome to friend me ..I have albums of pictures of riding in amazing country lanes here in New England .. Yours Guy

Thanks for the review. I too was hoping you'd review one earlier to help me with a purchase. I ended up picking mine up in April and have since ridden over 2000 miles through France and Spain. I came from a Street Triple and wondered if I'd made an error - but I love the bike and its got plenty of power in the real world.

Great review...informative as always. I am looking forward to the "longer-term" review and what you think about the practicality of spoked wheels (tubed tyres!) -- with "off-roading" -- and the possibility of picking up a puncture...a rare occurrence but a potential show-stopper if you have to repair a tyre with inner-tubes.

i bought the matt green one a month ago, and have done 700 miles so far. absolutely love it. bought after back to back test rides on this, the street twin then the T100. also tried 800 tiger (which at least has some wind protection) Both harley, bmw and Ducati turned their nose up at me when i turned up for test ride on 12 year old suzuki bandit! their loss!

I have one of these. Owned for 4 years. De-catted and added shotgun exhausts as well as Triumph small screen and aluminium bash plate. It’s an absolute scream. So easy to ride in town and on highway, but it’s not a highway bike. Through the twisters it’s soooo good. Can’t get rid of it , it’s so good and very pretty. I am 1.75 and it’s perfect size.

I borrowed one last week when my Thruxton R was in the dealer for some work. What a sweet bike! I was very pleasantly surprised. Like you say, the engine has real-world power just where you need it. It certainly doesn't feel underpowered at all. The brakes are OK. The standard Bobber has a woefully inadequate single disk, but the Street Scrambler's brakes had plenty of bite and were fine for this kind of bike. The bars weren't really to my liking as they were too wide to allow 'proper filtering' in London traffic. Otherwise they gave good leverage and the bike cornered very nicely. Suspension felt a bit 'budget' - I was expecting it to soak up bumps a bit better. Overall, it's a lovely bike, the 900cc engine is far stronger than the 54bhp suggests and it's really easy to ride. It's certainly in a completely different league to the old air-cooled Bonnies. I can imagine Street Scrambler owners grinning from ear to ear every time they ride it.

Great review as usual TMF! I have been waiting for you to review this Bike since I borrowed one for a weekend a couple of months ago. I found the brakes fine for the weight of the Bike, the engine had more than enough power for normal to spirited riding and quite frugal with the go juice. Over 150 miles of mixed riding (read hooning) it returned 61.7 mpg! The riding position reminded me of my old SR500 Yam. The mirrors only showed any vibes over 75 mph and surprisingly I had no heat issues with the exhaust and it was a hot day. The standard system does indeed sound really good but I have since heard the Vance & Hines 2-1 and that is nigh on perfect! The tyres performed very well on the road, much better than I had expected. On the subject of tubed tyres, I got a puncture half a mile from home.......short push and into van to shop, new tube (£10 and a drink for the Tech) tyre ok with the culprit being a small panel pin! (went past a house that was having a lot of renovation work and later inspection of the road revealed quite a bit of debris including more of said panel pins....... Really did not want to take the Street Scrambler back and now trying to justify another Bike...... It really made me smile!

Lovely review, once again! The bike is quite nice...but the weight! It's heavier than the BMW Scrambler, and that's 1200cc and 110 horses. I know you said one can't feel it, but I'm sure one can feel if 30 kilos were to be removed! Keep up the good work! :-)

What a great way to spend 15 minutes. Many thanks for all your efforts. I was wondering, as you have spent time on the 900 and the 1200 engine. How does the 900 go on a prolonged motorway ride? Does it hold the speed well? Is there anything left for an overrake, or is she a little breathless over 70?
@TheMissendenFlyer

She holds her speed at 70 just fine, there is more to go, but I think you'll top out around 95 on the 900's....(I don't know that of course ;0)

Great review TMF. Always love your reviews and really like the honest and down to earth opinions. One thing I would say is I think you could have easily shaved 4-5 mins off the review to make it more snappy. Please don't take this as negative. I do like everything you say but think a bit of the road riding could be cut down just to make a sweeter/punchier finish to the video. Great bike btw, im actually considering this one.

CERIABEST SB yes, there’s one where I work so I’ve admired it quite thoroughly lol. The foldable foot pegs jut out from under where the exhaust is and there is a spaced, formed bit of plastic which shrouds the exhaust where a pillion’s legs would be. Looks comfy actually. And the seat is flat and very long... ample room for a passenger.

As you've had a bit of time to spend with both these bikes I'm really interested to get your take on the comparison between the two. From my point of view i don't mind that the Scrambler has only limited ability off-road. Any advice your could give or perhaps even a video comparing the two would be much appreciated. Keep up the great work. Cheers

Difficult choice - for me the choice would be between the T120 and the scrambler. Scrambler is a nicer ride I think but doesn't look as cool...

Thanks TMF, I'll definitely tee up a ride on the Scrambler before i pull the trigger on a purchase. Keep up the great, real world, average punter, honest reviews.

Great first review TMF! Had mine for about 2 months now, I absolutely love it! Probably the most fun I've had on a bike. I've not had any problems with the front brake, for a single disc its not actually that bad. Also for a 12l tank you can get a fair decent range, Ive had 170+ miles out of a single tank riding at the speed limits. And as for anyone wondering about off road potential, its got it. I've been down a lot of gravel tracks, greenlanes, and fireroads on mine and its handles its self well offroad. could probably do with some better tyres though. One thing I have found out that isnt so good though, the front mudguard isnt actually the right size for the wheel I think it was probably a parts bin part off another street twin model, but in the wet water absolutely streams up off the sides of the mudguard out of the tread directly into your legs. Not ideal.

KrisMOTO23 love mine too. Mine has averaged 69mpg over 2100 miles across Europe and I've nailed it around. Cost me just €100 for fuel across a 1700 mile tour. Also agree on green lanes etc, mines even hit a beach in Biarritz and green laned in Normandy. Once I got used to the front brake it's been fine and it's seen some action in London traffic.

Awesome! I'm taking mine around Europe next month, probably going to do the same sort of mileage. So I'm glad its not gonna cost a bomb in fuel! :D Nice wanna try it on some sand myself I bet its fun!

Damn, makes me wish I could afford another bike right now! (I have two Triumphs, an '02 T100 (Centenary Edition) and a '97 T595 Daytona.) About the only thing I wish were really different about the Bonnie is the front brake, don't know why there's no option for a second disc (EBC HH sintered pads do make it a lot better). Stock suspension was too soft too, but Race-Tech cartridge emulators and Ohlins handled that and I've done over 500 miles in a day on it, no trouble. Love the look of the Scrambler!

Very true, depends what you want your bike for, if it's to feel cool going slowly then the scrambler is for you. If you want fast agile thrills then save a grand and get the Street Triple....

dadwold I rode mine in 39c in France / Spain. I won't lie, the exhaust was a very slight pain at times but only when in traffic and at those temperatures, I didn't feel it over many miles. It's also a little warming on colder days :-)

I had one of the very first original Scramblers back in March 2006. I couldn't get a test ride as there were none about when I ordered it. But when I got it, I hated it. I found it crude and uncomfortable...only kept it 6 months. Mind you, I think the Ducati Scrambler is awful as well for the same reasons. Wouldn't mind trying the new one as I'd love to become re-enthused about these Bonnies.

The matte green and black from the 1st gen are awesome. I can't decide whether to pick up one of those in 2019 or opt for the new 2019 in white and then wrap the tank. Better brakes and additional power do make it tempting. New tech doesnt hurt either.
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 5 лет назад
Actually I quite like the 2019 matt green and aluminium.....
@robscherer
@robscherer 5 лет назад
Oh no! This is where we might have to part ways! Haha, just kidding. I want to wrap my next tank but I have no experience with that. I basically want to buy either the previous gen matte green or the new white Street Scrambler and black it out...and then basically ride the bike until it falls apart or I do. I will say the silver/green is better than the red!
