2017 Yamaha R3 Review | YZF R3 - Is It Worth It?
I review my little Yamaha R3 going through some of the features and my thoughts on the bike in the time that i've had it. And wether or not that i recommend it for a beginner rider and also the experienced rider that's just looking for a light nimble commuting bike.
Yamaha R3 2015 -2016 -2017
Features:
- Engine: 321cc Liquid Cooled Twin Cylinder with offset cylinder design similar to the R1 with the cross plane crank.
- ABS 2016-2017 and some 2015 models
- Tyres: Michelin Street Pilots
- Brakes: Front: Single disc twin pot calliper
Rear: Single disc twin pot calliper
- Suspension: KYB
- Lights: Halogen - LED Taillight
I hope you enjoyed!

Have my R3 for almost a year and done 21000km. Awesome bike and still feels new and very solid build. Services expensive and annoying at every 5000km. Have done long journeys without troubles and even dirt roads!

Thanks for the upload. As a fellow R3 owner that has owned bigger bikes, this is the first one that I take to the track as often as I can. If it's power people are looking for, this is not a 600. Bonus items: You won't get speeding tickets, stock ergos are comfortable for half day riding, it gets track day respect. The aesthetics fool the eye of people on the street. What, a 300? Suspension is very soft for the city/rural commuter. The plus for me is that it helps me be a more smoother rider with steering/braking inputs. The suspension lets you know when you're rough or abrupt with the inputs. I plan to update that in the future when i have mastered smoothness. I have Rosso II for now, upgrading to Corsa soon.

This is how the bike sounds stock. Unless you loose the cat, you will hardly hear a difference with a regular slip-on. Went with the M4 myself and it was a huge difference! I kept the silencer in and its still loud af lol Nice vid btw!

The first thing I did was to convert mine to a sport touring bike, but the seat became an issue. After 400 Kilometres, the bum is gone. In the USA we have a company call Saddlemen which sells a multi density foam with a gel pack at the bottom of the seat. Now I can ride the entire day without the previous problem. Shorty levers are an absolute necessity. I also bought a deep sounding slip on pipe because the stock one really grates on you after awhile. Mines black with sport saddlebags, tank bag, and a large rear centre bag for trips. The last item of importance is going to Z-rated radials and the change of the rear to a 150/60 wider tyre. That last move requires a one tooth reduction in the rear sprocket. Otherwise I didn't change the forks or the shock.
@DaSpedzaMotoVlogs
@DaSpedzaMotoVlogs 7 лет назад
+D. Paul Riderman That's awesome dude 😃 I have heard of the Saddlemen once before they're definitely a awesome thing to have if you're doing long cross country trips 👍🏻 Shorty levers are something i have actually looked into they're definitely more comfortable than the standard ones.

To me, the R3 is the best looking little bike. And based on RU-vid, sounds the best too. Will hopefully be getting one in a couple days. After much deliberation about whether to buy an FZ07, R3, Ninja 300, or SV650. Just want to hone my skills before moving up to a bigger bike. Who knows, maybe I'll like it so much that I will not need to move up. Nice video!

ratstrat1984 Thanks man 😃 The R3 is a great little bike as for sound most the twin 300's sound very similar the closest to the R3 i would say would be the Ninja 300 with sound. I bought the MT-03 12 months ago, but only just recently adjusted the pre-load lol. What a difference bumping it up to 5 from the stock 3 has made. This is my first bike so those sort of adjustments are a bit foreign to me. Great review vid mate. On a side note, what jacket is that?
@DaSpedzaMotoVlogs
@DaSpedzaMotoVlogs 7 лет назад
+Kremlin Fuize Thanks dude! 😃 Are you liking the MT-03? Yeah it can make a massive difference adjusting pre-load and springs. I noticed that with the dirt bike scene. And as for the jacket i would actually have no idea i had it given to me awhile ago and it has no brand tags on it but the guy who gave it to me bought it brand new from a motorcycle store and never wore it because he sold his bike. But it's a cruiser style jacket that's all I really know about it. 👍🏻

Loving the MT03. Originally was looking at the 07 but after doing the prelearner course I felt the 300 offered a better balance of not enough power to get me in trouble but still enough for some fun. I commute from Blacktown to North Ryde every day so it's nice having a 1 hour trip now instead of 1.5 hours

I know a 300 is the smaller end of bikes but would you think it would be good for a person like myself. Personally I'd like to have a 600 for the factor of if I like it and wanted to upgrade later on I wouldn't have to worry It would be my first bike and I weigh 125 pounds and I'm 5-11
@DaSpedzaMotoVlogs
@DaSpedzaMotoVlogs 6 лет назад
The 300’s are fantastic bikes and great starter bikes they’re very user friendly. The choice whether or not you decide to buy a 600 over a 300 is completely up to you man some people start on 600’s and are completely fine others hop on them and it turns them off riding completely because they’re not ready for a bike that is less forgiving provided you’re talking about supersports. Upgrade factor well that depends also hahahahaha 600’s can get boring over time aswell. Other thing to consider with the 600’s is the bloody insurance aswell my 300 R3 is cheap though my 1000 R1 is expensive but the bloody 600’s to insure can be ridiculous sometimes aswell. Just some things to think about dude hope this helps man.

doodooheadful Hey dude, You should be just fine with the R3 when it comes to height because the R3 is a fraction lower in seat height than the ninja 650 and as for weight you should be just fine. If you ride the bike and don’t like the way it feels suspension wise you can get the dealership to set the bike up for your body weight which is usually recommended. Hope this helps 😃

Hey, The R3 will probably be a good suit for you but it is best to have a sit on one or test ride one before hand I recommend that with any bike. The Ninja 400 I honestly can’t give a opinion on because I myself have never ridden one. The Ninja 300 however I don’t think will suit your height as much as the R3 does. Doug Kichman Because of budget. They're made to a price to sell them cheap. Plus the company's would much rather put resources into there bigger bikes.
@touristguy87
@touristguy87 6 лет назад
because then it would cost $12k not $4k there is no way that a 300cc bike is going to make 70hp without a major engine upgrade and it would make a lot more sense to just increase the displacement You want Brembos, you can chuck the stock binders and MC and upgrade them, likewise the stock forks and rear shock, the stock risers...you're never going to see that power without a new engine, even with a turbo You want an R6 just buy an R6
@CheapGuitarsAndMore

Its a good base you can just upgrade it yourself if you want better components. Bore the block and turbo it to see how much power you can get out of it.

"is it worth it?" compared to what? compared to a $5k used FZ-9, FZ1, FZ-8, FZ=7 or even FZ-6? fuck no buying a new R3 instead of a used bike with 2x the power or more and practically the same weight at the same price is like buying a $100 pair of sneakers: sheer idiocy trust me if you can find a used FZ8 in good condition for the same money that you're thinking of putting into an R3, snap it up

+touristguy87 Compared to other bikes in its class. Yes i agree with you to a point the FZ/MT range of bikes are nice but alot of it comes down to personal preference aswell for riders like for eg you like the FZ range and yes they do produce more power have better brakes etc and some may consider them better value for money. Although they have that naked/ semi naked look and some may not be a fan of that. You could also argue that the Ninja 650 would be a better option also for riders. As for new vs used that is also personal preference for riders so i just say it comes down to solely what each rider is wanting from their bike and at the end of the day of if they're happy with their choice that's all that matters 😃👍🏻

DaSpedza MotoVlogs a choice made in ignorance and illogic is unlikely to be a wise or happy choice. Sooner or later they will find the truth. So no temporary happiness is not all that matters.
