As an owner of an N55 M2, I completely agree with your review. Also want to reserve special mention for how clear and articulate your reviews are. This channel definitely deserves tons more subscribers.
Ive set my eyes on a N55 LCI M2 for so long now, not financially ready yet but in 2-3 years i hope to buy one at least. I've been on the fence between DCT and Manual for just as long, i thought i have to make my mind up now so i don't have to battle with my brain later regarding it. I love driving manual cars but really rev-matching and being so insanely precise with the upshifts when you have passenger starts to get annoying after a while, mostly i drive alone so i don't care, but sometimes it even annoys me. My current winter beater is an auto and that really pulled me towards the DCT, even though i love driving manual. But i think your video locked me in on the manual. If i bought the DCT i would go on every day wishing i had a manual, probably not the other way around. I didnt know the M2 had assistance on the upshifts too, but that would help the daily driving alot. Overall it was a very good video, i thought i would be skipping and listening to another annoying person but really was surprised with the presentation 😄
Thanks Joel! I appreciate the thoughtful comment. I agree with your assessment, the manual in this car is just easy to live with. It takes away all the annoying things about manual transmissions. 👍🏼
@@fluxx7217 I can afford to buy one straight up in cash if i want to. But i don't feel like there is a big reason for me to do it right now, the global economic situation seem very unstable, everything is getting more and more expensive, banks falling left and right. I feel like the smart thing to do is just to lay low for a while on big spendings. Also I really am not tired at all of my current car (Subaru BRZ), i REALLY enjoy driving it, looking at it. I also bought it in cash 4 years ago and its only gone up in value. There is no reason at all for me to replace it, i still enjoy it as much as i did when i bought it. I've also been more and more interested in buying a house with a proper garage instead of just spending money on a more expensive car.
@@slonkijippie Yea if U love the brz already I can't see u justifying this big spend on the m2, brz's are m2 without all the fancy gadgets and power imo u already have an excellent driving, really enjoyable nimble sports car. Save the money and get the house when things start settling down as the economy is in a big ebb and flow you will get a good spot to use all the freed up cash when it counts and is worth it to you. Brz's are dope!
What about the manual in the F80 M3? For a 6ft2 person trying to decide on his next daily driver that won't break the bank and has a good reliability track record, the F87 M2 & F80 M3 are hovering around there somehow but now thinking about the GR corolla and rhe A91-MT B58 Supra as they're a lot newer than those BMWs, but yet to decide
Great and accurate comparison to the Miata! I owned a turbo Miata and the M2 is fun, nimble and engaging like the Miata but with more power and more solid handling. Great drivers car.
Kinda the same to you but my miata is supercharged with cams lol, I wouldn’t say the m2 straight up handles better cause you can really feel the weight around slow corners compared to the Miata, the main difference is how it’s soooooooooo much more stable especially at higher speeds, it’s so good on the highway for my daily commute while being fun and quick 😍
FCP Euro recently had a teardown video of a blown N55... I need to watch it, and they are doing a series on the rebuild too I believe... should be interesting.
Looking forward to this. I recently traded in my M4 for a F-Type R convertible. The Jaguar is an absolute beast, but I miss the nimble, raw power (and manual transmission) of my M4 😩
@@RiperSnifle hmmm maybe compared to an M2 it would be heavy. But once you get a feel for the car, you can pretty much put it anywhere you want it. Perfect balance of agility and power in my opinion.
@@petterberggren yes, I have cold start deleted but first start of the day it would have a stumble/ rough idle for a sec. I tried a trick online where you unplug the MAF and let the car run awhile before reconnecting it. It helped tremendously!
I have a 800 whp mustang currently and I am thinking getting something different, Don't get me wrong 800hp is fun as heck but totally unusable on the street and i am getting bored with the automatic. do you think a M2 could keep my interest? How reliable are they? I really enjoy your channel , I almost bought a Jaguar F type R because of you.
What’s up man? I adore the M2, it’s a really playful and fun car, but it kinda depends on what you want to use it for. If it’s for back roads and aggressive driving on street/track then YES! Especially in manual, the auto trans can feel underpowered sometimes. If all you do it roll race or drag race then the m2 is probably not the car for you
@@skrrtgarage3922 I really like drag racing, But it's real hard on your car, and I don't do it enough anymore, I am getting a little too old to be doing repairs/ mods on cars. I had a Abarth 500 for a wile and loved ringing it out , I guess I want a fun and fast car I can enjoy.
The m2 competition could be a great fit for you. It has the s55 engine which is capable of outrageous power if you tune it. But if you don’t.. then it’s still real fun to drive around. I think the OG m2 sounds better, but it has less tuning potential.
I ve been wanting M2 since 2015 when i saw the design it is a master piece i can’t fault it nearly financially ready as they have dropped in value now still on the fence between dct and manual i guess whatever cheaper will make up my mind 😂
Does your M2 by chance have any clutch chatter (when creeping in 1st gear/feathering the clutch)? My dealership (and some forums and other mechanically inclined individuals) tell me its normal, but every time I hear it pulling into/out of my garage....oof.
@@andrewrossnagel9433 Car's do not have to be dead on stat's wise to be comparable especially when it comes to handling. A lighter car can feel numb as a heavier car can feel nimble.
Not all BMW’s use the double pull to open the hood. Just an FYI Great review though. I enjoyed it. I was simple, but different than most other RU-vidrs, which was a breath of fresh air. New sub bud 🤙
Hello. Just wanted to commend you on your comments about the car. Honest opinions. And you sound like a really down to earth kind a guy. Not over the top. Thank you
Hey dude, driving the same car 🤜🏼🤛🏼 like the Video a lot! But stop the clip at 4:48 and look at you cooling fluid on the left. Looks kinda empty or am I missing something? Greetings from Germany Chris ✌🏼
Ugh you don’t know how disappointed I am that my F-Type is a stupid automatic. I may just get crazy enough to find a custom shop and have that BMW 6 speed fitted into it. One day… a boy can dream #savethemanuals
have you tried fitting a car seat on the M2 i would love one but i have a 2 year old and I've thought about the m3 f80 but i just like the m2 better and here in FL there's so many m3's so that throws me off also I've look into the isf but they're so hard to get what are your thoughts?
Yea I have, it’s certainly doable.. it’s not the must fun thing to do though. The passenger seat will need to come forward a little but nothing crazy. The m3 would be easier but not totally necessary 👍🏼
Great review and like someone said, you expressed very well what this car represents and how it feels. Can you please post a link with your gear knob? I really like it. Thank you ☺️
Yea the M2C is a fantastic car, basically all the benefits of the OG m2 plus the seats, mirrors and motor from the M3. The M2c is a better car, but I’m not sure it’s 10k better.. plus one benefit of the OG m2 is the exhaust sounds better to my ears. Either way, can’t go wrong!
One important aspect where the M2 stands out over the Comp is character (stock vs stock), the Comp is a great car, but the detuned S55 in the comp feels underwhelming, where as the N55 M feels like a... well, M car. The CS brought that character back to the S55. In my books it's M2 CS > M2 > M2 Comp. Drive them back to back to form your own opinion, you might come to the same conclusion.
Had an OG m2 shipped to me from up north 2 months ago. I love it so much, it came with M performance steering wheel, M performance exhaust, interior wrapped in alacantara and its a manual. What tune would you recommend for it? Oh i also added a turner stepped intercooler and i believe prior owner had catted downpipe installed
Wait, I don't have to double pull my e46 hood release? You need to taste all the flavors; let me know when you get bored and I will trade you my NC Miata, lol.
@@skrrtgarage3922 The NC is fat by comparison, but still fun... I'd love to have some Flyin' Miata suspension (and maybe an LS swap? haha... even a Mazda 2.5 would be fun).
Agreed... i totally love my 2018 M2, although is it just mine that has the slight transmission whine when creeping in traffic. Once you accelerate normally or aggressively the whine disappears. I have the DCT version. Also, it's very clunky when selecting reverse? It only has 20000 miles on it. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this? I know its a totally different beast from my 435d, which was much more refined. However... what a car!!!! Love it!
@Skrrt Garage brilliant... i did read this was the case and due to the nature of the car and not having driven another one, you just never know. I get a bit of a whine at 40mph too... it comes in and goes as you pass 40 mph. Other than that the car is an absolute beast
I think you convinced me to go for the manual over the dct 😅Just something about it I can't give up my manual for the fancy auto's just yet! Awesome video can't wait to see what else you have in store.
as a guy who has had both, i loved the m2 but the cayman is just a bit more refined. All the touch points on the cayman feel better, the heel toe positions better, the seating positions better the steering is (marginally) better. but with that refinement i felt like you lost some personality. Sure the cayman dances through the corners and has better balance, but the m2 charges through them while putting a smile on its face, both cars will bite you if you're not careful but while the cayman snaps at you for making mistake mid corner the m2 (if set up correctly) will wag its tail and let you go sideways in a controllable way. You cant really go wrong with either but theres a reason why i kept the m2 and not the cayman :)
Had a lot of seat time in an M2 DCT that wasn't mine. So I bought one. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. To my surprise it came with a factory installed tuned exhaust which may add some hp. Most fun car I've ever driven. Buy one
Just test drove the 2017 and 2018. What a beautiful car. Having the M Performance Exhaust makes a huge difference. It turns a nice sounding machine into an even nicer sounding machine! Would you go for the 2017 with M Performance Exhaust or the 2018 without?
@@skrrtgarage3922 Yep that what i have now, incredible car, that's why i owned it for 4 and a half years. Its very hi spec with carbon maxed out in and out. And a Crazy ///M performance exhaust Barks, Bangs, and Pops... Defiantly a Keeper for me. I did TD a F TypeR but even though its a great car, it just didn't have the fun factor as the M4.. Keep the Great Vids coming.
