Seems so easy for these guys to complain about sound, "we need more!". Guess what, in the real world, you'll need to get on conference calls, talk to your kid, and live peacefully with your neighbors. Really easy to say you need more sound until you live with it day after day.
I just turned in 18 AMG E63 S wagon for a fully loaded M5 a week ago. I indeed do feel the m5 is hair faster in acceleration. That was my 3rd E63 over almost a decade. This m5 provides impressive speed in a more gentle way. She can be very wild if choose so. I guess I am getting a bit older. Even I still like to drive very fast but now I choose to be in more “smooth” way of fast.......:)

Its because they forgot to fill up the blinker fluid. See BMW doesn't fill the blinker fluid from the factory and most buyers don't know about it so it just runs dry and they never work. Always check your blinker fluid at least once a month.
All lies. I've owned 6 brand new BMWs. Just picked up an M5 and X7. My husband and I love to use our signals. We are nationwide trucker drivers. So we value safety bud.
Halfway through the review and I don't think this car could of been any more perfect, the interior, the exterior, the controls (gear shifter, steering wheel etc) everything is just so refined as a technician I hope the engine is as streamlined as it looks working on it should be a joy as well.
You normally complain about shiny materials....especially piano black plastics. That car is loaded with shiny finger print prone material, yet you said nothing about it. Im sure it's a well built interior, bit it's ugly. Are you brand biased?
The M5 is already quicker than the E63S, which has been proven in multiple comparison videos. The Competition Pack will just increase the advantage slightly, but obviously the CP isn't purely about power, but various small upgrades making it more sporty to drive that the standard M5. As for power, the M5 produces anywhere between 630-650 realistic realworld HP and so does the E63S, but it's over 200lbs heavier than the M5. Great video :)
Those are the offical figures, but dyno tests reveal a different story. The official figures are what the manufacturer expects the car to produce under less than ideal conditions. For example at altitude or with "bad" fuel. Even the F10 M5 produced in excess of 600hp, even though it was officially rated at 560.
The only way your going to get more exhaust noise inside the car would mean bring the wind and road noise with it which is why they didn’t do it. I’m pretty sure BMW is still using CRP for the roof and not full on Carbon Fiber which is actually a good thing for several reasons. Being able to switch from 2WD to AWD and be able to adjust the rear biased, that’s awesome.
Randy Carlisle I work for BMW, and you’re right about the noise. Based off prior consumers feedback, BMW has decided to go with a more comfortable, quiet daily driver. The M5 is usually purchased by men, 45 + years of age. It’s also usually their only car, so Engineers didn’t want it to sound like a lambo for a daily commuter, but they did want to perform like one if you wanted it to. Most journalists who are complaining are only driving the car for a few days. Imagine driving it for 3 years with annoying engine, wind, and road noise. The consumer wouldn’t be satisfied.
I haven't been a huge BMW fan lately, but this M5 is impressive. I love how configurable the drive train experience is. However, I do agree that the rear seat space is disappointing for a car of this size. My Mazda3 had more legroom than this.

Alpine white is always great on BMWs... this has a chrome grill, which looks so much better than the new bronze finish on some of their sport versions.
I love your videos, but if you are going to do those long sweeping shots of the car at the beginning, might be worth getting a better stabilizer. Those shots have a lot of potential. Anyway, carry on! I love the M5.
That either the enchanted or fake engine note in sport mode when you turn off the sport mode you won't hearing the fake engine note love the growl inside the cabin

for the people complaining about the exterior looking the same, honestly because they are known for that kidney grill up front i don't think there is to much they can do to the car unless they get rid that grill and i doubt they will do that
Sofyan- please don't start calling the hood a bonnet. It's bad enough when Alex on autos calls the windshield a windscreen. 😂😉 Love the seats in this car. Would look even better in a red and black combo.
Chris Fame Well, they invest a ton of money in developing good sounding exhaust systems and yet they really don't sound all that better than BMW's IMHO. And I mean come on, this really doesn't sound all that bad! It's a luxury cruiser after all, so it shouldn't be very loud inside for everyday usage. ;)
Amirmasoud Sepehr the 5 series , e class , CTS , GS etc. they start off as quiet luxurious sedans. For them to get to M5 , E63 , CTS-V , GS F etc. they have to add a whole bunch performance goodies but the basis of each vehicles are quiet , well insulated , luxury vehicles so with few of those vehicles being loud only seems to come from the outside but not the inside. Either way, these are all beautiful, brilliant , beasts of vehicles. Wouldn’t go wrong with any.
Great review! I think I like the contrast of the black carbon roof with the white. My wife makes me close the sun roof every time. Test drove one today and amazed how solid and insanely fast the car felt. Really interested to see how the E63s compares. The BMW seems to be more sporty while the Mercedes a bit more luxurious. Tough decision if your in the market for a really fast 4 door sedan.
I just miss the V10 of the E60, but I really love this car: nice but not extravagant looking, fast, powerful, and also with AWD when you need it. Thanks for your review!
BMW has stated that as far as reliability is concerned, if you can afford to buy this and other of their products you should be able to spend a lot of money to maintain them. Keeps their dealers happy too.
I saw one on the road and honestly it looks like a regular 5 Series. You really can't tell them apart other than the badge. Fake vents on a M5....what is BMW thinking?????
Yes needs the exhaust a lot louder I mean it’s got the selection knob so it can easily be tamed, so I don’t understand why they won’t let the exhaust rip in full M mode.
Regarding the noise - At the executive level that this car is, does the buyer WANT to hear the exhaust from inside the cabin? If they wanted that, wouldn't they just buy your modern muscle car? Some buy it for the level of comfort and isolation, not always for the sound. To each their own I suppose.
Totally agree that it to quiet inside. The noise level is only around 70 db. Should be around 90db. If you buy one, just take off the mufflers and use straight tailpipes. That should rock your neighborhood with around 96 decibels!
The M5 does 0-60 in 3 seconds, not 3.4 like he said. Which puts the M5 in the same acceleration class as an Audi R8. But i would always choose an Audi over a BMW. Even though the M5 has AWD, no car company can do an AWD system like Audi's Quattro. The best handling sport sedans in the car world period!
Too bad states like NJ have to ruin the front bumper with a license plate. I hope PA never requires that. In this day and age with technology, why can't a simple rear plate be enough, with an RFID tag encoded with your license plate number, so when passing through tolls or police cars, the plate number is electronically read in, rather than stinking holes drilled in the front bumper! Nice car ruined by state regulation.
I hear you as I live in Jersey, only good thing is that on new cars we don't have to get an inspection for next 5 years and after that it's emissions only.

When will BMW ever update their looks?...Now before (some) people call me a hater,I am going to say that the car looks good but it looks like every other 5 series with minor tweaks...I like Porsche as a brand as well.(just letting it be known) Even the X series BMW’s look the same from when they were released.
Smooth Operator Working at BMW and talking with the designers, I understand why the styling has subtle changes. BMW wants their cars to be instantly recognized on the road as a BMW. Unlike other luxury brands that constantly change their grilles and styling cues, BMW wants to keep an distinctive look like higher end brands from Bentley, Rolls Royce etc.
AJ Lee “Distinctive looks”? Isn’t that what Henry Ford was trying to do with the Model T while everyone else evolved with new designs? Their sales have also went down as well.Thought I’d only be saying this for Toyota but BMW needs to get with the times.

I found it really cool how the top 5 Luxury small Cars leading in sales YTD January-August 2018 in America were 1- Mercedes C Class with 37,571 2- BMW 3 Series with 31,116 3- Infiniti Q50 with 24,105 4- Audi A4 with 23,012 5- BMW 4 Series with 20,292 When you add that up that’s a shit ton of cars created! Not a brand whore I’m open to whatever cars catch my eye. Just thought the other redline fans should know which cars current luxury consumers are purchasing
An active exhaust with different modes like the Camaro or Mustang would fix the noise complaint Sofyan has. I’m surprised BMW didn’t offer it since they put nearly everything else in this vehicle. I love this car.
Well look at it this way, the M5 is designed to be a 4-door exec saloon, which none of those cars you mentioned are....their formula is more about muscle, and with that being said the M5 it's not looked at to TRULY boast some monstrous roar. Try and take a step back and look at it all from a bird's eye view, and you'll quickly understand

Thats why in Valet I use to see so many rich folks lease these toys, and have fun with them. I can tell their lease by the key tag. Some of them put it in valet mode, which pisses me off.
I actually drove the E63s and this car. There really close the M5 is the better driving car. It seems the young guys always talk about the sound the M5 sounds good out side and so does the E63s and that’s what sold me on the BMW. What you young guys forget this is not designed for you it’s designed for Executives and trying to have a conversation in the E63s it was a shouting match, cell phone your favorite word will be WHAT and after 10 minutes it was obnoxious where the M5 you can hear the engine sound but you can have a nice conversation as well. Now if you want more sound just roll the window down. And there’s always after market exhaust. But BMW got it right I bought the BMW F90 M5.
@redlinereviews @21:02 Launch Control was not active. Whenever launch control is active in a M car, you get a checkered flag and a message that says “launch control active.”
BMW M5 Competition Package, I'd pick over other sports cars and luxury sedans [such as Nissan GT-R and Mercedes S Class] as my daily driver as it offers the best of both worlds!
The E63S would be better, but technically the E63 is the direct competitor. The M5 Competition pack (CP) and E63S are direct competitors, because S is AMG's version of CP :)
Just got to Germany and have officially found out that Americans are getting skimped with American spec cars. Please put Euro spec cars on the autobahn on your bucket list.
