#BMW was one of the first luxury brands to offer a small compact luxury SUV when the first #X3 came out back in 2004. After 14 years, this segment has evolved into one of the hottest categories in America. Although, BMW has fallen behind some competitors over the years, the fully redesigned 2018 model promises to be more luxurious, comfortable, spacious, and fun to drive. The #M40i version has 355 HP from a sweet sounding turbocharged inline 6 but has BMW finally given us the ultimate driving SUV?

I Seriously HATE automatic tilt and telescope. You saw how quickly you were able to adjust it manually. Automatic means something else that can go wrong and is expensive to fix. It stinks to high heaven when you cant adjust something because its electric motors are broken. Please stop insisting on this issue for the steering wheel it drives me crazy :DDDD

Picked up my 2019 x3 m40i about a month ago. I am in love with it. It's been proven that the B58 in this car actually makes close to 420hp at the crank and I feel it. (Dinan dyno'd it at 445hp and others dyno'd around 400hp @ crank) Those who are saying he pushed back when he used launch control... he did not. He leaned slightly forward and relaxed himself to actually show us him getting pushed back by acceleration. I get pushed back like that every time I use LC.

On mine I find the Launch Control inconsistent. It will typically launch just as good or better without it.

@@nickmotsarsky4382 that's what i thought when i first got the car. Make sure to build up your boost when using your LC. Don't release your brakes as soon as you see the "launch control enabled" message. Launch it when you RPM at around 3000.

@@hyunkang5628 I try, but often it doesn't launch hard. It almost seems like the brake release gets delayed. It's weird. Flooring it on your own with the brakes on is how I do it most times, without touching the stability control button. It does build boost that way too.

@@naturalbornhuman3450 No I do not. My lease ended about a little over year ago. All maintenance was included in my lease so I paid zero over 3 years. I had Zero problem with the car and thats with intake, downpipe and piggy back tune that able my m40i to do 3.9sec 0-60 consistently.

I just ordered a m40i and they do not come with those wheels, that is an extra cost. They come with the 19in bi color grey m sport wheels.

You can recline the back seat. Nice amenity. It’s a B58 Engine not the N55 is done for the most part. The B58 is reinforced for more boost. A variant will be in the X3M and it’s coming with the X4M. Source BMWNA’s website. Audio glass on the interior for a quiet ride is worth mentioning. 50/50 weight distribution helps with it being faster in real life vs on paper specs. The interior color is Cognac.

yazkaz I could be wrong but from what I have always heard a moon roof was one that didn’t open all the way or at all and a sunroof opens up slides back for a breeze on a hot Summer day

I just picked one up. You’re right, no need for the full M. I test drove one and it is faster up top but the m40i is better down low. Also the m40i is a far more comfortable ride and sips gas compared to the M.

You should have put it into sport mode and THEN rev it. It pops like crazy. Great car, too expensive for me so I settled for the 340i X drive.

I’ve gotten 340 As a loaner and let me Say makes my 2”11 335 feel slow - the b58 motor is amazing and Toyota is using it in the Supra so that said a lot

Great review and believe this is the best SUV in it's class. Ventilated seats is offered as an extra option. Price is in the same range as the Audi Q5 and MB GLC.

I'd say this is one of the best driving cars in the class , but personally in this segment , the Macan , sq5 , and this would be three I choose. Lexus hasn't done much with the nx , not much can be said about the qx50 since it has a cvt. Acura hasn't released the type s rdx yet, the mkc is stuck in the past , and the xt4 is just getting started.

Jordan Catcher I have the GLC43 AMG crossover and it’s faster than them all. Comfortable and well built. My decision was a lot easier after I drive all three.

I drove a car that got under 30 mpg highway on a road trip with a friend last month...made me thank my lucky stars I drive a car that gets 45 mpg highway and still has lots of power. I'll never go back.

aayan goverski cooled seats are available just limited to certain colors, manual steering wheel is fine trust me, how often do you move your steering wheel? Also less things to break.

Cars with manual steering adjust r over 100k mostly, and ventilated seats r mostly limited and optional even on this level. BMW builds the best engine and aiming for performance, not to get you nicer steering wheels and comfortable seats lmao what tf you on about

You can get cooled seats but you need to seats with the perforations and in my opinion, it doesn't look as good as the regular ones.

It wasn't. I have one. Owners have gotten 0-60 times as low as 3.9 seconds stock. With launch control it launches hard.

Own this model since Feb this year. Very quick and nice to drive if it can be on the road. Currently sitting at dealer 10 weeks due abrupt vibration issues with chassis related problem. Many affected X3m40i units out there, yet BMW has no final resolutoon on this yet. Seems like drive shafts are not keeping up with torque. Other than this very nice performance SAV if you can put on the road. Lol

Sean Lee My Buick Envision 2.0T with a ecu tune makes 380 lb-ft of torque and no vibrations/breakage or showing any signs of giving up the ghost.

The oval that looks like a button in the door is a cover for the key hole. That for emergency cases where the FOP died on you. The key is in the FOP itself, you need to remove the silver part of the FOP and it comes out. Also, the engine is not the N55!!! It is a B58... totally different. Little mistakes are not an issue (saying X4 instead of X3, moonroof vs. sunroof, etc), but screwing up big time with the engine name will ruin your credibility. Finally, the pull backs you are showing into your seat look super fake at 13:26 and 14:23. I own this car, and while it pulls hard, it does not make me jump on my seat... even my wife who is 100 pounds does not jump like that.

The inline six has legendary reliability. Now as all far as the sensors and saftey gadgets and high tech its anyone's guess. I bought a loaded X3 30i (4 cylinder version) and its is suppost to be pretty reliable. At least most of the big issues have been fixed. The timing chain was the biggest issue a few years back. I've had mine for 7 months and not a single issue. Now the M40i is the high performance version and will have more crap to go wrong IMO. The 30i has enough power for me. 0-60 in just over 6 seconds.
