I think Chevy needs to offer a more powerful engine so it can compete with the new 300hp Camry and Fusion sport both cars does 0-60 in under 5.8s. Camry in 5.5s and Fusion Sport does it in 4.8s.
Unfortunately they didn't have a redline edition for the 2017 model year. It was only available on a few Chevy models, this year they're putting it on pretty much everything!
1 thing he didnt mention about the interior, right in front of the center arm rest is a wireless phone charger. It's the little slot in between the shifter and arm rest. And I believe it also has interior accent lights that looks really nice at night. I know the 2016 Malibu LT has them.
Nice Ken got the same car in the 2017 model. From chevy in July. Wish I got the red line pack. I just hot the lt with the 1.5L only thing I didn't like paint scratch extremely bad in clear. Just had have chevy booth it out do to I did know where came from see a month after I got it. Had have xm fixed also. But it's a great car.
Thanks James! The Redline Package just became available on the 2018 model year for the Malibu. Not sure why Chevy waited so long, but we're seeing it on a lot of models now and they all look SWEET!
I test drive new cars for work. The 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid blows the 2018 Chevy Impala (non-hybrid) to bits. The Impala has super floaty steering and yes really less power than the fusion. The cruise control is a major bonus w the Ford. Instead of speeding coasting down a hill, the engine downshiftss and charges the battery. Chevy impalas cruise is a lot more effort to tweak and the buttons are gimpy. W the Ford you can quickly take it off eco settings when you need power. Disclaimer my baby is an 03 Ford Lightning and this car impressed me. While getting 34-36 mpg driving in beast mode! *Noted this was a Malibu not an Impala. They seem the same to me
the biggest problem with this car is that it's not AWD and the engine is too small and weak. Chevy should consider having a v6 variant and a v8 variant of this car to replace the Chevy SS.
Beautiful car but still needs an all wheel drive option, there are cars in its class that have it and GM is still behind on all wheel drive cars which is a shame considering the beautiful line they have right now
Definitely agreed Jeremy! On the SUV side they've at least added a switchable all-wheel-drive feature. Now to get it on the cars, maybe by removing the Impala they'll expand the options on the Malibu :)
At that point you might as well just spring for an ATS. Most of the stuff in premier trim comes on the standard trim and comes with an awd option and with a slightly more powerful turbo 4.
The Charger has more overall space and trunk space compared to the Malibu. That said, I wouldn't put them in the same category. I think the Charger is more comparable to the Impala. Keep in mind that the Malibu does have a LOT better fuel economy, especially with the 1.5L engine.
2B1ASK1 hey there, I wasn’t really looking for a fast car I just want a good looking interior and exterior. Thats why I was thinking of getting a Dodge Charger SE (blacktop) or Chevy Malibu (redline). But most likely I’d buy chevy its way more cheaper and a gas saver. 😅
Pesos Coróña Oh ok I was just curious lol. I like both cars but I think the Chevy is a smoother ride as well seems to be Built better. I drive a charger rt and it's not as bad on gas as you'd think but you have to drive light.
Hey its Mosaic Black Metallic. Did I mention its Mosaic Black Metallic? Mosaic Black Metallic is the color. This car is black with cool red stuff. It's this black color that they call Metallic Diablo Red. They call this color Mona Lisa Ebony. This car is Black Panther Merica. I think this car color is called blacked out fire ball of death.
lol great question! best way I can explain it is like a retractable window shade. very thin roller in the back and tracks along the sides. the shade isn't a solid piece that slides, it's more of a sheet of fabric that rolls up. hope that makes sense :)
I get it, but the market has been pushing fuel efficiency thus the 4 cyl boom. The turbo's really give it power though! Bryan Olivo knows it now too. Either the 1.5 or the 2.0, there's plenty of power and acceleration. The 4 cyl engines of today can't be compared to the scary and troublesome 4 cyl engines from 20-40 years ago, they're a completely different animal now :)
Does this have heated seats? If not, what package would you need to add them? And would that still work with the redline, and convenience and tech package?
Great questions Tyler! This one does not have a heated seats, but it can be added to the LT trim with the Leather Package which can be combined with the Convenience and Tech Package. Heated seats are standard on the Premier trim, but the Redline Edition is only on the LT trim. If you live near Cleveland, OH, we have 28 (LT with redline, leather, and convenience/tech packages) within a 100 mile radius. Looks like they're finally putting more of these into production! :)
Ken Birdsall so can you have the redline with the convenience and tech, leather package, and sunroof? Basically I just want a redline with remote start, sunroof, and heated seats, but I’m not sure if that’s a possible combination.
The sunroof becomes an issue, for some reason GM hasn't built one. I ran a search on the entire US and there isn't an LT redline edition, convenience/tech package, leather package, and sunroof (lots of results showed up until I added sunroof and then they all went away). I'm sure it could be done on a custom order, you may have to wait a couple months to get it though.
They used to have the SS but didn't sell many (probably in-part because of price-point). The car market is tough and has been drastically declining while truck & suv sales are rapidly increasing. Unfortunately, the call to cut a lot of the car models is better long-term.
I hope it doesn't have that automatic turn on turn off when you're at a red light or at a stop both were a pain in the butt that's why I got rid of my 2015 Malibu
Yes, more and more have it standard, not just in the Chevy line-up but in the industry as a whole. It helps a lot with fuel economy, but I would like to see Chevy give the option of turning it off.
Bohemia Lite I personally own this exact car but a 2016 year model and well after a year and a half now. The Start stop is pretty seamless that it's very normal. I trip people out and I find that funny. I've gone off the line a tad faster than a German car with the same tech.
I've never personally had a vehicle sold and shipped to another country but we have with some of our classic cars. If you're serious about purchasing one, I'd be glad to help. Please email me at kbirdsall@sunnysideauto.com
Nothing that I've caught wind of. There's been such a fuel efficiency push lately that's moved everyone to 4 cyl turbos. Nothing quite like a true v6 power in my opinion, would love to see some more engine options on the Malibu!
"So the Malibu Redline gets 160 on the speedometer and the Impala Midnight Edition gets 140 on the Speedometer. I dont get it." GM is not giving the impala much love.
LED Daytime Running Lamps are standard on the LT, Hybrid, and Premier. A step up to the Premier will give you the 2.0L engine with 250HP as well as the 9 speed transmission.
iv alwase like chevy but come on y mess up a car with that lame as 4cyl like come on at least offer a v6 version its a waste cuz this cars are really nice
Have you had a chance to drive either of the turbo engine options? I just sold a 27 year old a Malibu with the 1.5 and he said he would have believed me had I said it was a v6. He also drove the 2.0 and was VERY impressed. Both are 4 cyl but the turbo gives them the v6 power feel. The industry and pressure to hit fuel efficiency requirements have forced most auto makers to move to 4 cyl/turbo engines. Nothing quite like a v6, but I don't think either of these engines are lacking :)
@@KBCarsChevyChannel agree, more and more most manufacturers are turning to turbo 4 cylinders for fuel mileage. Nowadays most 2.0 turbo's can outrun alot of your V8 cars and trucks due to more lightweight and better Transmissions.
1.5 litre 160HP 4 cylinder. Not good enough.Too weak especially at standstill acceleration. If you ever need a fast acceleration to save your life none of these 2010-to present Malibu 4 cylinder models will do it.I had a 2010,13,15,and now a 17.And I never liked the auto stop and it actually quit working!first time I was ever glad to see a new car of mine malfunction. They seriously need to stop all this technology and bring back v8's and dual exhaust.Pay all this money and for what??
Hi Ben, thanks for the comments. Turbo's can be cool but with the industry forced to produced vehicles with better fuel economy, unfortunately power is going to take a hit. Auto stop can be a good feature too but again, it's becoming an industry norm now. I would like to see Chevy put an override option in though for those who don't like it.
Yeah don't get me wrong I DO like the car and body style reminds me of an Audi I just wish it had bigger motor.I started driving in mid 80's when v8's were still everywhere if anyone had a 4 cylinder back then you were REQUIRED to be ashamed of it.After all these years i guess I never grew out of that
LOL i get it! I have a 4 banger in my car and my wife has a v6 (how'd that happen!?!?)...i do enjoy driving her car a lot more lol On the flip side, I do get a lot better gas mileage (I do more driving, so I get the wimpier but more efficient engine).
model comparison for a Rogue would be an Equinox. I can show you Equinoxes that are $5k less than this as well. So apples to apples would be similar, this is a different animal
The auto stop hurt this vehicle I had the Malibu 2016 limited old body style like the 2015s every time is back up in reverse it would make a big loud clunk sounded like the transmission was gonna fall out all cause of the auto start stop the transmission was ready but the engine had a felt when it kick on it made the tranny clunk I got rid of that fucker real quick
chevy is full of shit jst pick up my 2018 last mth and boy do it have problems already push to start is str8 shit car cut off on me and its so much plastic inside you only get you money on high end levels sad. so we took our ass over to Ford and boy the fusion Sport for the cost of a lt bye Malibu hello Fusion sport sorry not sorry
