All of the big three are great trucks! I bought a new 2017 Ford F350 with the gas 6.2 V8 because I liked the new redesign of the inside and outside, it was affordable for what it was, and both Chevy and RAM had outdated models waiting to be replaced. I believe in the service life mentality for fleet vehicles, and will buy a less expensive new truck with the intent to replace it within 10 years. Now is definitely not the time to invest big money into gas trucks, because we are just shy of a huge transition to more fuel efficient hybrid electric big block gas engines.

Have a 18 Silverado High Country 6.2L and don't have any issues with the 8 speed smooth as silk. Have you watched TFL when they tested the 18 Yukon Denali with the 6.2L with the new 10 speed and I quote what they said you would be hard pressed to see any difference between the 8 and 10 speed. So I'm in no hurry to upgrade just to go to 19 with a 10 speed with anything new truck there will be many bugs. If you want instant throttle response put a Pedal Commander that will give quick response. As far as saying the 19 looks better than the 18 that's a matter of opinion.
@aarons3008
@aarons3008 6 лет назад
Totally agree, I love the 8-speed on my 2017 6.2 high country. Ya it shifts firmly but its my understanding it does so to minimize torque converter generated heat so in turn it can run cooler under higher stress. Plus it is currently the strongest auto trans available in any half ton truck (not my opinion, strictly looking at transmission torque ratings designated by the number associated to any given transmission). The 8 speed is the only "90" series transmission 8L90 available in a half ton truck. Ford Uses the 10R80 (an "80" series) which will be the shared transmission with the 2019 gm renamed 10L80 and ram has the even weaker 8HP70 in the 1500's. So while the new 10 speed may be smoother and some may have the opinion that it is a better trans I myself with stick with the factual evidence that the 8L90 is the strongest trans capable of the highest torque loads and that is what I want backing my 6-2

I have 2017 SLT GMC, 6.2 with the 8 speed. Almost silky smooth. Only complaint on the trans is an occasional 1 to 2 hard shift. It is the trans adapting to me, usually hit it too hard in 1st and then let off, 1-2 shift gets stiff, expecting me to keep going hard. Otherwise, loving the trans with the 6.2. Dad has a 15 2500 with the 6.0 and 6 speed....feels clunky! Buddy has a 16 1500 5.3 with the 6 speed, again, clunky. We all agree that my 8 speed is much better.

THANK YOU. this is what i was looking for. hey btw, hows your gas mileage when not towing anything? i want the 6.2l over the 5.3l and im about to go plop money down this weekend on a sierra slt all terrain with the 6.2l. i pump ethanol free premium anyways, so i figure the cost is negligible at the end of the year over regular with ethanol but ill have the added performance with similar gas mileage. ive got a honda civic si at the moment which costs me a whopping maybe $40 dollars per week with me putting it to the floor whenever i feel like it so im not too worried about gas mileage. was just hoping the 6.2l would match the 5.3l on the daily and do a little better than the tundra 5.7l the rear window on the tundra crew max being able to roll down is pretty cool though. probably go for a platinum but i WANT the gmc
@travsb1984
@travsb1984 5 лет назад
the original 6 speed is clunky until the fluids warm up... For an automatic I would describe it more as sticky than clunky though... If you don't like it you can always just let your car warm up like most would recommend you do. I don't mind it your, just give it a minute to warm up and everything is fine.

You are wrong about the sides of the bed, they are steel also. Only the "swing panels" are aluminum. You are correct about the way people load their bed, unless it's a work truck and someone doesn't own it....
@TheHooniverse
@TheHooniverse 6 лет назад
Eric Mackison looks like it’s the tailgate, you’re right. But it’s interesting that they have the inner steel cut more closely to the other steel for a thinner bed wall. Should be a very interesting bed to test especially with that power tailgate. Though I’m reminded of Mitch Hedberg on that one... if the power tailgate ever breaks, it’s now just a tailgate.

Good review. I think that GM builds good pickup's. That said I will offer the following advice: You're wasting money if you buy these "special edition" trucks. It's nothing more than badging and, possibly some exterior trim but nothing functional. Also, 22" tires (on a pickup) are not good for anything other than charging an additional $2k...especially when this truck has the Z71 package which itself is not worthwhile. For the $1,250 (maybe a little more) that they charge for the Z71 you could add a 2" leveling kit, Bilstein shocks and a sweet set of 35" off road tires and have a much better package. As for the 6.2 Liter V8 it's an excellent engine but if you're planning on doing regular towing of 10,000 pounds or more I suggest that you go with the Silverado 2500HD and get the 6.0 Liter engine with the 6 speed transmission and 4.10 differential. The 6.2 is an all aluminum engine and will not stand up to regular heavy duty use over the long term. I'm glad to see that GM is putting a lot of effort and innovation into the 2019 models.
@kentucky8256
@kentucky8256 6 лет назад
What Chevy needs to do is bring back a standard shift option and put the 6.2 in the regular cab as well,regular cab 6.2 with a short bed and either a 5 or 6 speed manual and now you got something
@derrickbarnhart3156
@derrickbarnhart3156 6 лет назад
I'd like correct you on the outter bedside material of the 2019 Silverado. The bedsides will remain steel, the aluminum usage on the upcoming Silverado will only be hinged panels, doors, hood, gate.

I just looked at the exact twin of this truck today. Instead of $62,000 it was sale priced at $46,999. Park assist, BOSE premium sound, anniversary edition with that sweet 6.2. I have a 2013 F150 4x4 Screw and it's kind of a piece of crap. Decent engine, crew cab has plenty of room, but it seems like small things crap out every year. Radio control is messed up, windshield wiper control died, heat shield rattled off, steering wheel is de-laminating , idler pulley needs replaced, coolant hoses/o-rings had to be replaced. It has 93k miles on it. I honestly take care of my truck and give it regular maintenance. I even park at the end of lots to avoid dents so it's not falling apart due to neglect. I'm not getting another Ford anytime soon.

Try the Pedal Commander and see if that helps with the throttle response.

God a 17 Chevy z71 4x4 same specs as that, white, also 6.2. The way you were talking about the throttle sounds like dead pedal. If I try to hurry up takin off from a stop sign fast it almost got a few second delay before the truck actually goes. I’ve been told it can be tuned out but not sure. Mine is used on the farm daily and those thinks will pull some heavy loads with easy.

Love Chevy Silverado I have one. Great truck, can't wait for the 2019. However, can't stand short boxes. Can't handle a full size pickup. Then don't drive one. Great looking, until you cut off the rear with that short box. Terrible.

On a regular or extended cab... agree 100%. On a crew cab... that is a trade-off that pretty much has to happen.

Truck Central , true , true... There is for sure a trade off. Mines a Crew 4wd, '6 "6 b box. I do not have the 8 speed though. Anyway thanks for the info brother. Let's see how the 2019s do Ram, Chevy, GMC. Can't wait it will be hard to chose.

3:33 Nah, It's LS, WT, LT, LT Texas Edition, LTZ, LTZ Texas Edition, LTZ Z71, LTZ Z71 Texas Edition, High Country Z71. High Country doesn't come in Texas Edition though. Anyways, all other models dont matter, because Texas Edition is top of the line.

Sorry to say Ford isn't any better it's a flimsy not well built truck. The new Silverado isn't any better not liking it yet there still behind the times and the new 10 speed compared to the 8 and I quote from TFL you'd be hard pressed to see any difference and to gain maybe 1 MPG better not worth the gain/cost. As far the 8 speed don't have any issues at all its silky smooth and nothing like I hear from the public clunking etc.... Like my 18 High Country 6.2L and as far as waiting for the 19 common sense would be to stay away for a few years until the many quirks are worked out.

The 2019 model looks like it's trying to copy the F-150, the current styling is much better looking. Also, push start and keyless entry are a necessity, you don't realize how much of a convenience it is until you drive an older car without those features. Even my 2018 Terrain has those features, no reason for a 60k truck to not have them.

Hi, all Wonder how many of this "reviewers" drive a truck every day?, I drive a chevy and is a great truck, just to have a Ram, also great truck. Comparing both of them "chevy is a softer ride in long travels, but the hemi kick hard when you need it", like when you go into the highway and need to go quik, the chevy response is a little bit slow but in general both are great trucks. Can't comment on ford since I never own one.

meh..bought a 2017 high country pretty much one year ago to the day. Think I got good deal..6.2...no power running boards or box lights..52,500 canadian ...and am happy with it. I have a old 2005 3/4 with a old 6.0 for a work truck at the farm. Not much to look at but gets the job done. Haven't used the new 6.2 for towing much lately..have a camper that is about 5200lbs..with my 2016 with the 5.3 i found that engine strugling alot..mind you it was windy the whole time. Anyone out there have stories about the 6.2? From how I have driven it I find it spades over the 5.3.....slightly better on gas.

The throttle lag is terrible on these trucks I know I have one. Also the transmission is never in the right gear especially around town. Dodge for me next the engine and transmission work 10 times better.

When truck manufacturers are upgrading bodies and frames every 4-5 years...consumers will eat those costs. I personally would like to see a 10 year life cycle minimum....parts would be cheaper, etc. Seems like everybody wants a luxury truck to look cool,and keyless everything, i would prefer easier to fix mechanical stuff....must be nice to have disposable cash.....i bought my '15 silverado dmax, but will probably be my last new truck. This computer specification type reviews in pickup trucks is comical imo.
