This is my first video of anything mechanic.
I apologize ahead of time if I misnamed a part or a tool, it was unintentional
Hope you enjoy the video
Chevy has the thermostat on back order so I purchased the thermostat from Autozone. I bought the gaskets from a Chevy dealership. I only needed to buy the water hose gasket as the new thermostat came with one preinstalled
If you have any questions I will answer them the best I can.
Thanks

Shops all wanted around $1200 to change the thermostat. After seeing your video, i figured I could do it for less than $200. Thanks for the info, and saving me $1000.

You know you have a good video when I have to watch 20 seconds of commercials before it lets me watch the video.

I have to do this in the morning with my 2017 Colorado. Did you get an engine light on before you started this procedure? And was your temperature gauge stuck right around 160 before you changed the thermostat? Mine is doing all the above and the radiator fan runs for about 300 seconds after the engine is turned off. I’m changing my thermostat and the temperature sensor all at the same time .

It was fluctuating, most of the time my temp gauge wasn't working at all.

Hi, could you tell me the torque specs on the thermostat housing and water outlet bolts?👍👍

I didn't use a torque wrench.

Good video, but hmm, am I missing something? Does the V6 eat thermostats? I hope not, I have a 21 ZR2 and have zero issues thus far.

I have. 2019 and its already bad. Had to switch it out for a new one.

I just had to switch out my 2017. It’s not easy to get to. Bad design in my opinion, but not too much to handle, overall.

My '19 V6 radiator fan was running for a few minutes after shut down the other day. Since then, hasn't happened again, but this is the prelude to a failed temp sensor. When you're in there, you might as well replace the thermostat and sensor at the same time. Mine just flipped 129k miles.

They are on back order with Chevy. The dealership I went to say they only order 4 or 5 at a time. That's why I got mine at Autozone quicker turnaround time and a little cheaper. The seals I bought at Chevy

Was it running cold or overheating?
@unclegregfl

It wasn't overheating but couldn't tell as the gauge was not functioning

😅did he take the upper intake off or not.
@unclegregfl

No, it was easy enough to reach without removing the intake. Now I did not replace the sensor. I think the sensor would require you to take off the intake

@@unclegregfl That was going to be my question....where is the temp sensor located on the engine since it is NOT part of the thermostat???
@mmaxon888

@@unclegregfl Just did mine. It's worth it to remove the intake, doesn't take long and the intake gaskets and plugs are easy to handle at the same time.
