This was how I did the job. How you do it is up to you. I ultimately did not replace the missing seal as the old one held up fine. Sorry about curing but I do not monetize my videos in any way and offer this for free. Without ads. I make nothing and gain nothing by making these.

Mine went out recently on my 2021 colorado zr2. Dealership wanted about 1300 to fix it. That price was gonna be seperate from the 175.00 charge to run a diagnostics. I watched youtube and did it in about 1 1/2 hours. Cost me a total of $183.00 for the parts. You can get a thermostat for much cheaper. Im not a mechanic but these things come easy to me.

I looked this up AFTER paying an ASE certified dealership $1225 to fix my 2017 Colorado today. Had I seen this first, I would have done it myself. I bought an extended warranty when I bought the truck that was SUPPOSED to cover power train issues, and normally engine parts other than hoses and such are covered. Not on the Colorado. Evidently there is a "history" with this particular part, so the warranty company made this part "exclusionary." Just a heads up for all. What really pisses me off, is that the parts from the dealership (housing and gasket seal) were $207. The REST of the $1225 I paid today was for labor costs. They had my truck for eight hours, when the job can be done in two. Consider this a PSA, and thanks for the video ykmalachi.

For anyone watching this now, the "missing" gasket he was referring to is an o-ring already attached to the black plastic hose inlet. I thought the same thing when I opened the thermostat box and didn't see a new gasket. Just clean up the back side of the plastic tube and o-ring.

Good stuff. Mine started doing it in the winter so I couldn’t tell that the AC wasn’t working. However mine is also intermittent. Comes and goes as it pleases. Gonna change mine now that I have the weather to do so. **Just a tip for anyone out there, there’s no fuse or relay for electric fan alone so I just unplugged at connector slightly to keep pesky thing off** I’m in the northeast so I wouldn’t recommend those living in high heat places

Would a SCAN TOOL have cleared the symptoms up before a thermostat change? I had these three classic symptoms (160 on gauge, fan always on and AC warm), so changed the thermostat and still no change in symptoms. Took it to my mechanic and he used his scan tool to clear the codes and now everything is wonderful again. He also said this is a self purging system, so no manual burping needed. If someone knows, let us know and thanks for the great video YKM. 2018 Denali Canyon 110k miles

It will clear the code and truck will return to normal. Until it sticks again and returns the fault. After you change the thermostat, you can do a few drive cycles and it usually clears on its own though.

Hey Malachi. Great info on the vid. Having the same issue. Drive 2-3 days to work. Halfway to work on the 3rd, the temp drops off and the fan stays in limp after shut off. Going to replace the thermostat today. I hope and pray the inlet seal is salvageable. My question is: Will I need to empty the radiator to do this repair or will everything have settled under that point in the system and not have to flush it? Thanks for the help, man.

On my 2016 Colorado 2.5 - I replaced the Thermostat with a NAPA model for $48 and the gauge was still past 210* so got the AC Delco model from dealership for $135 and corrected the problem. Also there are 2 sensors, 1 in the engine and 1 at the bottom of the radiator that all talk to the ECCM. The repair shop that put in the factory thermostat for me - broke off the radiator surge tank hose connection on the radiator then tried to epoxy it back on; FAIL! I replaced the radiator myself- the whole front Facia has to come off!

Hey brother, great video. Question for you though. I have a 2017 Chevy Colorado. AC stopped working a few months ago. Compressor, relay, and fuse are all good. Recently got a check engine light for the thermostat. Coolant wasn’t reading and engine fan would stay on during driving and 2-5 minutes after turning it off. Next day, engine light is still on but coolant is reading temp and no more fan. Day later, no engine light at all. I changed the coolant sensor to be safe. AC still doesn’t work. Any thoughts on this?

So would it be my thermostat if everything reads fine for a couple weeks then randomly the gauge drops to cold, fans stays on till the battery dies or I disconnect it, then when I reconnect the battery, everything is back to normal. Temp gauge starts reading like normal...then it happens again randomly. This started after I went through a large puddle a few months back. I don't want to replace the thermostat for it to happen again because its something electical , worried it might be a computer thing. 2019 chevy colorado....85,000 miles

@@ykmalachi thanks for your response. Not really sure I need a thermostat. I have a bad clamp on lower hose causing a leak. The fans were running for about 30 seconds after truck was shut off.
