I have a Sena 10C on my Neotec and resorted to using red nail polish to mark a stripe on the side of the lens and frame after the horizon was (finally) set to be level, then i put a piece of vinyl electrical tape on the side of the lens and frame to lock it in place. I'm a fan of the scramblers, so I'm glad you all uploaded the video, and great to see Troy back in the saddle. :)
I know its intention is short to medium range rides, but given the ride by wire throttle, and the ride modes, they should have given it cruise control.
I couldn't agree more with Friendly Robot. I had to turn the damn thing off and couldn't watch the review just because the camera horizon was soooo off. C'mon guys, you usually produce such top quality stuff and I was really looking forward to seeing this one. Arrrrrgggghhhhhh.....
If you'll fly us to Portugal, we'd be happy to reshoot the video! Just to be sure the quality is up to par, we should plan on spending a week riding, too.
So, it's my responsibility to make sure you have enough time to do your job right? If you're going to call yourselves MOTORCYCLE.COM, it implies a certain level of professionalism. And if it takes two weeks to get decent footage, then that's just what you have to do. Look, everybody makes mistakes, but, you gotta own it and make sure your product is up to par. There's too much competition out there to be sloppy.
Well, you're not a very friendly robot, so we guess we won't invite you to ride with us on the reshoot. Here's the thing: Sometimes when you only have one chance at something, it doesn't go as planned. Still, we decided that the information contained in the skewed video was worth including despite the obvious flaw. So, that's what we did. While we regret that you find the issue so egregious that you felt it necessary to complain about it, our current ratio of thumbs down to thumbs up is about 16%, which is really about average for RU-vid. So, we are comfortable with our decision. Some might even call that owning our mistake. Have a nice weekend.
I'd highly recommend working on your public affairs skills. Being snarky is never well-received. Something along the lines of "...Sorry, we know the video was taken poorly, but it was all we were able to obtain within the limited time we had with the bike and in the area. We'll do our best to bring high quality videos in the future and thanks for watching, regardless! Respectfully, your friendly neighborhood Mod..." would be far more appropriate.
Jesse Lantz Exactly. In all honesty, I felt a pang of regret right after I made my initial comment. I thought, well maybe I was a bit harsh with my phrasing. I actually intended on editing it. But I couldn’t believe the quick and snarky response from Motorcycle.com. I couldn’t help thinking this NEVER would have happened with Motorcyclist. Both the snarky response and the unusable footage in the first place.
I know you're aware of the skewed video and everything, but maybe going for a chin mount would be better, there's not going to be any chance for this type of thing to happen again with one.
The issue was the lens on the Sena 10C. It has a ring that you turn to adjust the horizon. Unfortunately, the ring wasn't taped in place once it was set, and it got bumped just before the ride. Accidents happen, and you can bet that Troy will check the lens setting before his next on camera ride.
Zea Moore Looking at how many 800 Scramblers they sold with the same brake line routing I guess not to many deals have been broken and there thinking is pretty good... Might this be the only deal breaker, it's just a flexible bit of hose. Surely there is a gifted Ducati mechanic out there that could re-route it to seal the deal ;)
Deal breakers usually don’t affect people who were actually in the market for one. I own one of these and I didn’t even notice it until I watched the video.
Glad they fixed the fueling. I test rode the original on a group ride. Made me wanna pull over and walk back. Holy SHIT was it terrible. My old '85 Honda I used to have with fucked up carbs had better fueling than that. ...and the most you get out of interview/mag reviewers is "the throttle can be a bit snatchy." It was a horrific experience. So nice to see that this disaster was fixed.
The dials and brake cable are painful to look at and distracted me from the rest of the bike unfortunately; I think Triumph and BMW have the scrambler segment nailed.
I agree that camera is not perfect. But are you guys paying for this free video?? I didnt get any headache that all you soft butterflies got. Just give constructive criticism, and be nice. But no people have to act like jerks and act entitled.
I quickly tire of a motorcycle video review that drones on for endless minutes with a voice blathering on about the finer points of the Scrambler with only GoPro video from the helmet perspective showing only a small part of the motorcycle. It's like a print review with nine photos of only one thing. You guys are better than this. Give us more rich and dynamic content.
Informative as usual, but that screwed up cam angle and that horrid brake line arch messed up the whole ride part of the video. my neck pained just looking at this...
Thank you for the review. Given you offer your excellent online mag review as well, that is detailed with cool facts, figures and objective comparisons, so why not make the youtube reviews very subjective? I for one am very interested in whether you enjoyed the machine and by how much. Your frank and personal opinion is what I would value most. I think I noticed you personally liked this machine, but was left with not being that sure why. Just sayin'.
Thanks for your input. Perhaps because we watched the video so many times during the editing process, we thought the opinion came through quite well. Apparently not. We'll try to do better next time.
The camera angle and lack of stabilization was literally making me ill. I only got a few minutes in and had to stop the video. Unfortunate for me because I was interested in this bike
It's not a GoPro, that would've been easy to notice that it got bumped. The camera is a Sena 10C, and the lens got tweaked right before he started his ride. So, the choice was to skip all the ride footage or put up with the dutch angle. We thought the information was important enough to include.
worst looking ducati ever. They prolly think Young people are idiots.tasteless and uneducated to deliver a bike with ugly cables all over the place cheap dash, cheap ugly tank and charge shitload. No thanks! I think Duc can do lot better then this shit poser bike
Why does EVERY fuckin rider have to go everywhere balls-to-the-walls? Why is that? Can't you fuckers ever just RIDE? Do you always have to see how fast you can go, terrorizing car drivers in the process? Not all of us want to be roadracers, you know. I don't need to see totally irresponsible behavior on a new model introduction.
I guess you've never ridden in Europe, Bob. This type of riding is quite common and accepted there, unlike in the US. I didn't see a single unsafe pass in the entire video. Just take a deep breath. Everything. Will. Be. Okay.
This happens all the time here in the U.S. All the time. Watch any video. Whenever two (or more) guys go out for a ride, it always becomes a dick-measuring contest of, "let's see how fast we can go!" It's juvenile. You want to go fast and/or race? Get on a track. Like I said, not all of us want to be boy racers like the riders, apparently, in Europe.
You and I must have been watching two different videos. I didn't see a single guy trying to see how fast he could go. The Scrambler 1100 is capable of much higher speeds than those shown. While I won't dispute that some riders do ride unsafely - just as some drivers do - I think your anger is misplaced here. Really, take a deep breath and step back from the hyperbole.
