Since I first rode the very first iteration of the Scrambler from Ducati I've not gone out of my way to ride any more as I wasn't that enamored - However, with the launch of the 1100cc version I was keen to revisit the marque as I thought my main complaint about the smaller bike (it feeling a bit "toy like") may be resolved in this version. Stick around and stay tuned to see if I was right!

Absolutely cracking review. I really love how this looks and the colour of the pipes really suits the bike perfectly. Sounds brilliant on the road and based on your thoughts looks like Scramblers have improved quite a lot in recent times. Great stuff as always!

I test rode the 2018 the other day and it was great fun; just a big tork monster that’s not bothered being in a gear too high or low. It rattles a bit because of the motor size and makes you feel like a bad ass straight out of Mad Max. I found riding an 1100 a bit intimidating out of the gate but in “city mode” it’s limited to the same output as the 800 and the throttle is smooth. Also, the breaks on this bike are amaze. When you apply them you “stop now”.

Thanks for the review, TMF. That is a beautiful looking and sounding bike. Funnily enough, I just watched a review of the Indian FTR 1200 S and it looks extremely similar, albeit with quite a lot more power.

well - been meaning to say thank you for the comprehensive overviews - your reviews are top drawer and the major magazines could learn a thing or two from how you go about this. After many test rides, and years of Harleys, Triumphs, BMW and a string of Suzukis, I settled on the new Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special (which will be in the garage in a handful of days!). Thanks again - it was a tough choice, but now I join my two younger brothers on Italian machinery.... your reviews helped shaped the decision-making process to be sure, and I'll keep watching for fun now that homework and purchasing process is done. Shout-out to GP Bikes and Ginni in Whitby, Ontario Canada, for a great experience all around!

Another fantastic review TMF! I’m new to the channel so have been binge watching your back catalogue... Love this bike!!! looks great, sounds great, seems to go pretty well. I like the “lazy” power you get from a big V-Twin. I get what people are saying about the brake line, but to be honest if I was riding this bike I don’t even think that I would notice it, I would be having way too much fun. Keep them coming 👍🏻👍🏻

Hi MF, great review, you summarised the bike beautifully at 9.58. I've had my Ducati 1100 Special for over a year now. Love the bike , love the way it makes you feel when you get on it and the engine sounds amazing ( especially when it pops and bangs ). Just tested the Duc Scrambler 800 and 1100 back to back a few weeks ago. Couldn't agree more. The 800 did nothing for me. The 1100 immediately felt more substantial (naturally), much higher quality and just a better fit for my 6' frame. Even stock exhaust bark is mechanical bliss. Digital tach is oddly placed and hard to read. Lively, easy-to-ride bike. By comparison, I felt the Triumph Scrambler 1200 had "tear-arms-from-sockets" torque to spare and the BWM RnineT is too characterful (read: unrefined). Really appreciate how you toss aside the stats for "We ride because we like the way it feels, and this feels fun" outlook. Your reviews reflect what matters. Thanks!

Owned two scramblers now, started with the sixty2 when I returned to motorcycling, which in all honesty I prefer to the 800 that I have now, the throttle response on the 800 is a little vague, apparently the 2019 model is better, but I might just go for the 1100 now as it looks loverly. Great review as always, definitely worth the few pounds on patreon. Keep up the excellent work.

I noticed this is your preferred route from Blade. At 4:04, instead of right continue straight on the Reading road to Streatley and Goring and loop back to Blade. This is a fabulous twisty road with fast straights and good tarmac, fantastic to really get to know a bike, the Honda Goldwing would have been perfect to take this route. The current route doesn't really provide much information other than what's the bike like in town and the A34. I live locally so I know the really great roads that this area has.

Thanks for the review, TMF. In my search for a "modern classic / retro inspired" bike this one made it to a short-list of two. Styling-wise I think the one thing this bike does really well is to hide the gap between rear wheel and seat (the bane of many a modern classic imo), particularly with the standard pipes, with one on each side. That impact is lost a little with the Termi's, although the noise more than makes up for it. And for sure, as a 'feel good' bike, this one is very good. However, for me, it remained the runner-up. I chose something similar but different - the Z900RS, and it's arriving tomorrow. Can't wait.

Yet another great video, thanks. I've been with you since the start and would like to give make 1 suggestion. Stop asking people to subscribe. If they want to, they will. It's insulting for you to be begging them for likes and subs. Especially now that you have a patreon, your business model has changed. You will soon make more money from patreon than all other streams combined. You no longer want as many subs as possible, but as much loyalty as possible from the subs you do have. I like your style, manners, experience and your personal "voice". Don't be afraid to go less mainstream and more niche. Thanks again for the great content!
@TheMissendenFlyer
@TheMissendenFlyer 5 лет назад
I've never ever asked for a like in all of my 500+ videos and I don't regard me asking for people to subscribe if they enjoyed my video to be begging - I think you'll find it is standard/best practice for You Tubers to ask for Subscribers (and likes for that matter). Thank you for watching and for your advice. All the best - TMF.

Wow! Ducati hit the mark this time. The bike is beautifully balanced visually which is really important for me. The fact that neutral is easy to engage makes it even more attractive. The Monster I had was not neutrally cooperative when the engine was cold. I think it still has that retro look which I love. The only thing I don't like about it is that wire sticking up over the instrument cluster, although it is not a deal breaker. Thanks again Sir for a great review.......Sal : )

I know you always do the rear brake test but in truth the rear isn't designed to stop you from higher speed. That's the front brakes job. It's there to balance out the braking, help with slow speed stuff and slow speed stopping. If the rear was like the front it would make what it was designed to do more difficult.

TheMissendenFlyer Just a suggestion but see what you think to this as an add on to your present test route from Blade, Abingdon. Stay on the A34 for another 5 miles from your current route’s exit, then take the exit for West Ilsley, just past a small service station on your left. You’ll go over the A34 and up on to the Ridgeway (Bury Down) ample parking either side for a walk round. Drop down into West Ilsley and turn R, follow road straight on to Farnborough village. The other side of here you will come to T junction with the B4494, turn L then next R, stay on this road till you come to the junction with the A338, turn R and follow this to and through Wantage. After Wantage and Grove on the A338, you will pick up your old route again at East Hanney, for the return to Abingdon. Approximately 40k(25m). Cheers, Roger.

I don't have the luxury of starting with small and upgrading later, so I'm gonna do rentals to get my feet wet again. I'm ultimately looking for something that has power but is sober and fun, not super fast scary. I love the look, design and size of this bike and reckon it'll fit well. I'm 5'8". Ducati is tipping its designer hat to those who rode BMX bikes back in the day and had just this sort of cable fitted to their pedal bikes. As I noted in my review I would have to change it if I owned one. They could have at least painted it with the Italian flag colors for a bit of style.

When the Ducati mechanic scratched my tank on the Monster, this bike was a loan bike while they fixed the issue. I had it for a week. Nice an comfortable for a short ride, but after 20mins on it, my back side was killing me. Probably my failed parachute jump back in the 90's that has something to do with it. I just cant see myself paying the money for this bike. Its very plain to ride compared to a lot of other bikes. Cheers groovers ;-)

Good review as always, couple of things, I always think that the occupant of any Hearse may have been a biker and would have loved a Termignoni drive past, also one for the future, you review a lot of bikes, most of which perform faultlessly, I'd like to see you put more emphasis on who the bike would suit, ie if you had to have only one bike would it fulfil your needs, sporty?Touring?Poser? etc etc. Cheers J.

I'm glad you throw in your inseam. I'm an inch shorter than you, but have 3" less inseam. I love this one to except for the silly brake line and the 18" wheels with way too few tire options.
@atastefortheroad4475
@atastefortheroad4475 5 лет назад
My inseam is 29.5" and I didn't have any trouble when reviewing the bike last year. The suspension is a bit softer than other Ducati's and the seat is more plush. It's an overlooked machine and certainly worth a ride if you're in the market. The MT-60 tires stick very well too.
@saddle8bag
@saddle8bag 5 лет назад
@@atastefortheroad4475 Yeah, it's just that Pirelli is the only game in town for that front tire. Tires for 18" rims are already expensive and could get a lot more so as it's rarely used by mfgs. Don't know why, but they pretty much stick to 17, 19, & 21". I think the rear might be an 18" too which is another unusual beast.
@atastefortheroad4475
@atastefortheroad4475 5 лет назад
@@saddle8bag You raise valid points. Like my gear, I tend to think of tires and brakes as cheap insurance. I'm guessing the Pirelli's last awhile so depending upon your mileage the annual cost shouldn't be too bad. Definitely give the bike a try if you can.

Another great review. It seems lately that anything with a high-mounted exhaust system is suddenly a scrambler. Remember when a successful scrambler was a light, small displacement single (Typically British made) built exclusively for off-road competitive riding? Now we have this liter-plus behemoth pretending to be a scrambler. A nice enough bike I suppose but a scrambler it aint. You bet they'll never be ridden off road. What scrambler today ever is? Honest to God I thought that front brake line was a windscreen frame. Time for new specs. Then again, what's to see? ;-)
@thedarrendasher8134
@thedarrendasher8134 5 лет назад
Good revue, that motor needs putting in a Multistrada though as it's relatively simple. Being honest I'm not struck on the 1100 as it doesn't have the purity of the Desert Sled and so would be hampered by its weight and extra bulk off road. If it was my money I'd go for the new Guzzi V85 TT as it's way more practical than any of the other retro off roaders.
@auntieprimrose
@auntieprimrose 5 лет назад
I tried the v85 and the 1100 scrambler back to back. Not even a close comparision. The scrambler has much better power low down. The v85 needs revving like a 2 stroke to get going and hits a brick wall above 5500rpm. The scrambler has more than enough power above 2000 rpm and looks a lot better. I noticed the front brake cable, but was so enjoying the ride that it diddn't distract me at all. Enjoyed the ride so much, I will be trading in my 900 tracer for one.

Nice review as ever. Looks pretty good but as has been mentioned many times already, that strange cable routing over the clocks is odd and irritating. It's a relatively minor point but because it's so obvious it feels more important than maybe it is? I sat on one at the NEC bike show & it seemed worse than your vid conveys & lots of people were commenting about it & not favourably. As for the exhaust, I would hope it is in good condition after 1100 miles, it probably cost £1500+ knowing Termignoni lol. Lovely exhausts though.
