I own a 2017 Edge Sport, and this review is pretty accurate. It slots between luxury and sporty. One thing I would add is there are quite hefty discounts on this car. I got about $9000 off sticker when I got mine. So instead of competing with $50k cars it really should be compared to $40k vehicles. You get awd, twin turbo power, panoramic roof and tons of tech for $40k. Not too shabby!
Hi, can you tell me how you got $9000 discount? I’m interested in this Ford Edge but only around $6000 discount. How did you manage to get extra $3000 discount? Thanks!
Just purchased this same model. It is quick..I am averaging 20.5 over 3K miles. Its comfortable and does not drive as heavy as this tester is saying. Interior is high quality...with all of the soft touch panels...keeps that rattles at bay! Great car...looks blow out the Murano...great product FORD!
My 2017 Edge Sport gets 18 all city stop and go, 25-27 hwy. Just FYI. Glad you touched on the power on the hwy. This is a super good GT vehicle. We love taking it on the road. The Lexus RX was much slower, and the suspension is so soft compared to the Edge. The Edge will not fall over, and it barely leans. When pushed to the limit it goes into a neutral four wheel drift at the limit. You are wrong about the suspension. The compact Escape and Rav4 are smaller, regardless as to what the numbers say. I took them all home, and loaded them with all our camping gear and the Edge won by far. Last thing, to take a 90 degree turn you only need to turn the wheel 1/4 way which is very fast. It is REALLY nice, because it is nearly the same ratio as my Focus ST. $48 is the MSRP, I left the dealer with an extended warranty on a COMPLETELY loaded Edge Sport for $41k.
I went from a 2005 WRX , to an 2011 WRX, then leased a 2015 Edge Sport. I tried think it has a great ride its plenty powerful, fast, and handles like a tall sport wagon. I drive on a tight 2 lane parkway as my daily commute and this thing just craves to pass everyone. I am even considering going for a 2018 Edge Sport to see what deal I can get before the ST comes out. The Sync 3 Upgrade is a good part of it. Tons of space the 265wide 21s soak up all the bumps. Curbs and slow left lane riders are your enemies.
Hello Sofyan! Don't take this personally, but you didn't put it into the Sport mode, but left it in Drive the whole time. It's a better feel when in Sport mode. We have a 2016 model and take trips from NYC to Rhode Island and it's quite a capable vehicle in Sport mode. Great review as always, except that part!
You’re wrong, the Edge outsells it’s competition which is the Murano, Santa Fe and Sorento... also Honda sees that Ford is doing great in this niche market and is bringing the Passort back as a competitor to this. The Edge sells and is actually the fourth best selling model behind the F-150, Escape, Explorer and E-250/Econoline products.
I love the “feel” of American cars.. but take it from someone who currently owns both sides.. in the end, if you’re buying it, American cars can be money pits. It’s just smarter financially to go for something with a similar enough “feel” that you’re satisfied with in the Japanese/Korean market. Leasing is another story.
8/1/18, My next door neighbor just got one of those. Controls/interior similar to my 2015 Taurus. Lots of luck installing a trailer hitch on that. I have one on my car.
My mom bought a Ford Edge SEL about a month ago and she loves it, she traded in her Ford Taurus so she is used to the big car. I will be purchasing a Ford Escape soon and I will be coming from a Ford Ranger.
I think most YT reviewers rarely talk about a cars reliability and maintenance costs. I would argue most normal commuters care just as much if not more about that than performance, gadgets, etc., yet they dont touch on it. There could be a good reason, just curious to know why they dont
Lavonte A There's a rumor going around that Ford may discontinue the Fusion soon. I really hope that's not true because it seems incredibly stupid and short sighted for Ford to do that.
I actually like the idea of mid-size CUVs/SUVs. I don't want a 3rd row but I feel that some compact SUV's are too small in the back seat/cargo area. Wish Mazda would start competing in this segment and give the Edge some competition.
This guy complains just about everything is an suv what do you expect is made for long travelers go buy a Shelby if you need a sport car ✌️I like this edge by the way
Hey Redline Reviews.. you mentioned a Murano platinum in this video. Will you be putting a video out on that vehicle? I'm lookin at buying a midsize. It's between the Edge sport, Murano platinum or the Santa Fe sport ultimate. Which do you think is the best choice? I'll be test driving all 3 but love your reviews and would appreciate your opinion. Thanks, keep up the great work
Also, drop it down in "S" mode and the steering will change quite a bit and throttle response will get better too. We used this car to move my daughter into college and did so in one trip with room to spare - I simply don't need a 3rd row....
I bought a model that listed for $49000 but after dealer and company discounts, it was only $40000. That makes it much more of a bargain. Those people saying you can get a Lexus RX350, Volvo XC60, or Lincoln MKX for about the same price are not being fair. All these vehicles with similar options are about $60000 to $65000 before discounts. While there will be some discounts, they will not be as deep as the Edge's. Realistically, you are looking at paying another $15000 to $20000 for a comparably equipped but more luxurious vehicle.
Robby S I'm a Ford guy as well but I have to admit that with the exception of their trucks and performance models, Ford's current lineup is hilariously outdated and kind of embarrassing. Most of their models are in need of redesigns. I also hear that they might discontinue the Fusion which seems incredibly stupid and short sighted to me.
Why do you relate door closing sound with the age of the platform? I don't see the relation can you explain? Can't older cars have more solid feeling doors than newer cars? I have an e39 5 series and the doors feel more solid than the new 2018 3 series
In the review the car I very noisy inside. Does the 2018 version comes with noise canceling?. I had heard that the soundproofing was good even without n/c.
My mom has a 2023 Edge SEL and the SEL trim level does not even offer heated rear seats or cooled seats in the front. You have to get the titanium if you want that.
I had 2016 Edge Sport with the standard size 20” wheels and 50 series tires. The standard sized wheels and tires provided a much better ride with handling compromise compared to the optional 21” wheels and 40 series tires. A review solely based on experience with the 21” wheels can’t really reflect the best the Edge Sport has to offer.
Completely agree. I tried the 21's before getting ours and we liked the 20s the best. They are the best size for that vehicle IMO. The 19s on offer weren't any better, and the 18s were definitely not right for a sportier entry.
I own the 2018 ford edge sport, its generation x designed. We have our fox bodys , SHO, powerstroke trucks , and now our EcoBoost engines. I'm very happy with my edge sport . Its loaded with every option, in Ruby red . And yes it will haul ass , I dont need the manual transmission. If I want to shift I will jump into my fox , or SHO . Otherwise draw your own conclusions, and drive one .
A 2.7 twin turbo V6 SUV with two rows? I’ll take it over anything else that competes in the segment. Has a lot of space (way more than the Escape) and it also looks very nice. I do hate the font and instrument cluster; the center console is also sucky. But I’m willing to settle for what it is.
yep, Ford and GM, improving, but any buyer has to be willing to "settle for what it is". I want to buy but unfortunately, the previous two Fords our family owned were constantly in maintenance, both for chronic engine issues (stalling was the main concern in both). My sisters Escape would buck and chug and barely stay running for the first 10 minutes she had it on and only after a while would it be "acceptable", though still chugging and wanting to stall. Ford could NEVER get it fixed. Sad. She finally ditched it when she got a hand-me-down 2004 Accord which has been problem free for 15 years. All manufcaturers have ebbs and flows, but really Ford has rarely been reliable, save back when it had almost no competition (hey, in comparison to nothing, the model T was reliable). I hope they're turning a corner, and GM too...it's LONG overdue, like 60 years.
I love the engine purrs real nice, good interior room, I have the older version of this but everything looks exactly the same no changes at all, the updated sync3 maybe.? just drive it and you'll love it
Just did a build&price on Ford's site, with every option and the rebates the sport came to $48,305,but on car gurus I found about 75 within 100 miles of me for 10-13k below that and some are fully loaded.
Just wait 2 years. It will be $25k and on top of that buy an extended warranty and you'll have a longer coverage period than if you bought new. Great value then.
CalsVidsKids: cars aren't cheap anymore and it mostly has to do with the tech. technology is not cheap, and that money has to go somewhere. the problem i see with new cars is, while they seem to look nice, once you get inside you get disappointed because the inside doesn't look as good as the outside. but it can also work in reverse. when you look at the new Civic on the outside, it's got too much going on, but the inside of the car is pretty nice. that being said $30.000 dollars isn't alot of money today, considering most minimum wage jobs could get close to that number and the average is 8 bucks an hour in most states except for California and New York. the job i currently work at is Walmart. i started out making 10 bucks an hour, but now i make 12.
Polestar Wes I hate that some of them have the digital speedometer and some don’t. You have to get the base models to get the better speedometer but with less features
Tj Conner But the base model has a awful looking infotainment unit. I am sure in a few years Audi virtual cockpit will trickle down to less expensive automobiles and when that happens, look out
I do own edge too, and the thing is I dont like that I need both luxury and sport which I dont get in Edge, however it can smoke lots of bmw-s on the road due it’s fantastic sporty engine. What would you guys recommend from luxury segment which has same compact size like Edge and is luxury and sporty (under 6 seconds)?
Dylan Wodrich it did seem a little bit loud. It could have been his mic but I’ve seen older cars that have power tilt and telescope wheels and they were fairly loud as well.
Purchased a used on og these a few years back. It is a great car for me and my family. Not overly big? Decent trunk space, i love my leather seats and front ones are heated. Sound system is surprisingly nice. Overall its a good drive. Its onviously not as zippy as some other mid size suvs but its served its purpose well. Only issue with mine is when i fill gas, the nozzle of the pump doesent like yo stay in the hole. It keeps poping out. So i have to most of the time hold it while i fill gas. No biggie just annoying slightly.
I think the ad remains popular because it feels an itch between a smaller SUV and a large SUV is right in the middle relatively easy to park it has plenty of power and it looks good and has a nice solid look to it I think that's why they haven't really changed the look of the vehicle since basically 2007 change the grill change the lights but the basic shape is still the same
I have a 2016 eco boost 2 ltr Edge, its giving a squeaky noise when driven. The squeaky noise is intermittent. I have taken it to the dealership at least 5 times and they have not been able to find the cause nor the area from where it’s coming. They say they cannot do anything about it and gave the car to me. I really feel bad about this experience and inefficiency . The squeaky sound takes away the driving pleasure. Is there any way to fix this ?
Great review! I honestly don't write reviews but felt the need to for this video. I really enjoyed the points you and balancing the good points with the bad. Thanks for this review!
Lexus RX350 has a loud cabin compared to the Edge sport. Are you confusing it with another vehicle? Isolation chamber? Gotta be kidding me. Or are you are driving an Edge that was in an accident and repaired? I'm about to trade my 2015 sport lease in and just test drove a RX350 up to 85mph on the freeway this last weekend. So much road and wind noise when compared to my Edge. Also a pig on the acceleration. My wife even chuckled when i punched it. I have a few more SUV's to test but I'm leaning towards getting a '19 ST. No SUV I've test drove can compare to the power of my '15 Edge Sport for even a second. Can just imagine some more power and possibly slightly lighter vehicle with improved materials and an 8 speed transmission.
Have always had a question in regards to the vehicles that have 4 doors, Do these vehicles even today for the rear passengers have those windows that Only go half way down, I guess its for people who may transport young people in the back right????
Actually, most are like that due to the door design. If you look at them, they don't have the room for the entire window to drop into the door. Notice how many doors curve inwards towards the bottom back half.
Srt and Trackhawk have off road credibility? You also keep comparing the Lexus but fail to mention that to get the Lexus with the same equipment and features you're talking about over 60k. 99% of people looking at a 48k vehicle are not able to jump to over 60k. And to talk about the Srt and Trackhawk is just stupid, one is 70k and one is almost 100k.
Based on your review, a bit disappointed with the Edge Sport (I was hoping for better). As you say, could be due to its dated platform vs new platforms on the competition. Would this be competition to the upcoming Volvo V40? I think price will be similar.
Daniel Blaney Then why is the interior so bad? That gauge cluster is awful, centre stack is little better. It may fit corporate Ford but it's so bland and black.
I have a 2011 edge engine has 285hp it has engine noise cancelling speakers on the dash.....its very quiet....and is front wheel drive.....however just like the. 4wheel dr its thirsty on gas.....still love the look of it and the power
You are reviewing "sport" Edge... Put it in SPORT... Steering, throttle response changes substantially... You were driving in "haul kids" mode all the time...
Sofyan, you hit the drive review nail on the head… Very fast, fake engine noise, feels heavy, lifeless steering, not fun to drive (at all) and I drove it on the most scenic British Columbia roads… I experienced head toss (which I have not felt this since my Grand Cherokees with solid axles). Where I disagree is what is the best Edge to get: V6 3,5L is more satisfying and true to its core mission; it even sounds better. Last comment: parking assist is fantastic (should you use it) but line departure is god awful.
dave smith yah I was thinking same thing . I own a 2015 Volvo XC60 and looking for new suv this summer. My top 3 are Ford Edge ST , Volvo XC60 Rdesign , or all new 2019 Acura RDX maybe Type R if that comes out at lunch this summer .
No way I would choose this over the far more versatile, faster, and better styled(IMO) Explorer Sport...for the same money. The Explorer sitting on the same Ford lot is the obvious better buy.
I disagree with ride quality review, love the how heavy cars soaks up all the imperfect roads and this is exactly how it rides. I rented this one for one month and it blew my mind the first time I drove it. I actually think about purchase used one.
Oh my goodness dude you are reviewing a Ford edge stop comparing it to a BMW. This is an everyday working man's car looks like a very nice car to me so.... If I'm going inside a car I'm going to look at it why are you going over these things? Looks like a very nice car to me like I said for an everyday man's affordable car. Stop comparing it to a BMW I get it you have a BMW you have Rich tastes do your BMW interviews and stop doing common Man cars you're oblivious.
You state this suv sells half of thr Escape and Explorer. I am sure this is do to the fact its starting price rivals that of thr Explorer but gives a tad more space than the Escape. The price needs to be lowered.
I want to comment on my edge sport 2018 what I have noticed is this, the front and rear light bezels are showing moisture on the inside of the lights . The door seals are crap and inside the doors on the rear are collecting all road stones dust and salt and feel this will be a engineering failure by Ford. Has Anyone else noticed this defect on there 2018 model ? More to come in my comments later after I take it in to the dealership for service. Thanks for the review.
