In this video, I replaced the rear wiper blade on a 2018 Escape. Ford changed the design on these rear wipers sometime around 2016 and the process to remove and install the factory/Motorcraft rear blade is different than earlier Escapes.
The bonus footage allowed me to do it right the first time and in less than 10 minutes!. This is exactly what an instructional video should be like. Thank you!! 3:19
Great info! Want to replace my original Ford wiper with a new Motorcraft wiper. Not sure what the adapter was for on the Trico replacements & your video did an excellent job of explaining the difference.
The bonus footage really help me thank you 🙏🏻 Bought Trico rear 5-110 open the package up and I was lost because none of the adapters looked the same as the original. I was going to return the new wiper blade back to the store before I saw your video.
Thank you, thank you so much for your video! I was looking for a video on a 2018 Ford EDGE SEL rear wiper blade replacement. Videos for my make and model year DON'T exist. I only found some for the 2015- 2021 Edge. I tried popping the off blade and almost broke wiper arm. Wiper arm only lifts up 2 inches from window. Your video, for the 2018 Escape, worked! My car has the pull/snap then pop off release, also. After market part is Autoboo 15 inch OE: FT4Z17526A (2 blades per package from Amazon) that just snaps on to wiper arm, doesn't lock in. I'm good to go for the next rain storm!
Right around the 2:26 mark was gold. For some reason I didn't understand that the plastic piece in the center of the blade is what needed to move forward. My whole wiper blade pulled out without moving that plastic mount so I held onto both sides of the blade and shifted it right, towards the passenger side and it popped out. This allowed me to push it forward as shown. Thank a million.
Well I'm watching this video, which actually helped, after I broke the wiper arm after watching other videos that said the wiper just pops off. Your how to is very clear to understand, thank you.
Lost my temper trying to replace my kuga rear wiper. Had a cup of tea and calmed down. watched this and went back and replaced it in seconds. Thank you from the UK.
Thank you for this. At the parts store they couldn't figure out how to get the rear wiper off until I suggested RU-vid. I was afraid they would break it. Next time I will go buy it and put it on myself to be safe.
Hmm, maybe this is why the replacement blade I installed last year on our 2014 won't come off... Pulling away from the arm isn't working. Wife has the car right now, so I can't check it until later. Thanks for showing both types of blades.
The design appears to be different on my UK Ford Kuga MK2. Pulling the wiper blade to the side just caused it to slide inside the clip. I tried to remove the wiper arm completely but after removing the nut and washer the blade was seized solid on the spindle. So last resort was to take a screwdriver and carefully pop the wiper blade off the clip, and bingo off she popped. So there is no clip with a horizontal slot on the UK Mk2, the replacement blade simply clips onto the arm underneath. Carefully pop it off with a screwdriver, then line up the new blade and push it back on.
Thanks... I think my blade was on too long. When I pulled to the right, the blade slipped in the connector, but by pulling it all the way through to the stop on the end, I was able to get the connector to release.
I have a UK 2018 model year Ford Kuga ST-Line 2.0 TDCi and the rear wiper blade has a different connector to shown in this video. My rear wiper arm pivots all the way up to give access and the blade just pops out forwards. New blade just pushes back in and clicks tight. NOT sideways. If in doubt contact your local Ford dealer first with VIN chassis number for correct wiper blade part number.
So I pulled to the right I pulled the blade off its holder with the holder stuck to the arm. I can slide the wiper back through but it's now slides out when I tug. Guessing to the garage I go.
I just went to my local auto parts store and asked for a "rear wiper blade". They had several different kinds, unfortunately they did not have the Ford Motorcraft ones in stock - so I bought the Trico 55-110 instead. The customer was very happy with the replacement wiper blade.
It’s held on by a nut (13mm head, if memory serves). The nut is hidden by a plastic cap, you just need to pry the cap off gently to reveal the nut. Hope this helps!
I would suspect because the glass is pretty short, and they wanted the wiper to have the widest sweep possible without going over the top of the rear window. But yes, it does look ridiculous. Good thing I don’t have to look at it from the driver’s seat 😂
