I can't imagine someone trying to restore one of these in 30 to 50 years like we do the classics now. Good luck finding these modules/ touch screens, etc I believe those massage seats are installed primarily for the owner to comfort his bottom after he leaves the dealership after buying that truck and for each trip home from having service work done.🤔

@PantoPhobe-dm2fd Nope, these new vehicles are throw away IMO. Maybe the body will survive, but it will just be a shell of its former self. All the comfort and entertainment doodads that broke 25 years ago will be removed likely because of cost or lack of replacement parts. They will become more like the vehicles of the past . Simply designed to take you from A to B.

@@PantoPhobe-dm2fd I do believe there will tons of money in the future to have a custom module that locks the manufacturer out and keeps the vehicle going. They will likely copy/paste what they need to like fuel mapping and hopefully remove all aspects of DRM so folks could actually own their own vehicle they paid for.

...and for good reason too. All these finicky systems that can cripple a vehicle over something like this is simply stupid. Sure it's nice to have all these features, but one thing goes wrong can be a ripple effect. Seats like this make me appreciate my cloth bucket seats. It's the same with new "modern" agriculture equipment; i think the cabs alone cost the most.

Well it makes sense to me as a former vehicle wiring engineer and Ford electrical engineer. You’re right the continuous movement adds to the cause of the wire breakage. But, more than likely that particular wire was damaged at the terminal crimp point. This would be a sign of the wire manufacturer having issues with automatic crimping machines when manufacturing the wire harness. If the crimp dies are not correctly adjusted they can strike the terminal and wiring too hard damaging that circuit. Which would explain why one wire broke sooner when all the wires in that connector are also moving. It’s all a combination of defective wiring, tight routing and harness design without proper strain relief. Good catch on your part.

All the seatbacks on ford trucks (that I recall from 14 years ago) were injection molded plastics, but the kids in the back seat, giving the seatback the business with their short legged mechanical advantage, they can really deform some stuff. These cloth backed seats with that expensive component cannot withstand a random tantrum ;P (not saying this happened here).

Similar issue with my 08 BMW 128i auto stick lever. Popping lever left into DS (sport mode) over time broke tiny 18g wires as they didn’t provide enough slack in the wiring. Result was P R N D LEDs started disappearing then eventually couldn’t put lever into DS mode. Dealer wanted $1000 to replace lever assembly. I was able to fix by rerouting the wires to give needed slack and some soldering. Patience and a bit of soldering/shrink tubing was cost to me. Bravo, Brian and Alex!

This is why after Silverado, GMC, Ford Raptor that I had to dump due to Transmission shutters, hard shifting, lifter noise, and cam phaser rattle on the Raptor. I gave up I really loved those trucks but I was so tired of service advisers telling me thats just the way it is and live with it. NO $70,000 and $80,000 trucks should be better built period! Because thats what I paid for, if I wanted POS I would have spent less money. So I wound up getting a 2021 V8 Tundra 1794 TRD Off Road, yes its old school and yes its a 15 year old platform but she just runs no issues. I can live with old school and no trips to the dealer listing to some service adviser giving me a line of $h!t about how this is common and I have to live with it. Yes the Tundra gets 15 to 17 mpg at least the gas pump doesn't give me a line of $h!t. I pump gas and i'm rolling down the hwy. Sorry for the rant but I'm sure lots of folks who paid good money for their trucks are getting a little sick and tired of dealing with this crap.

Thanks for the "Remedial" wiggle test demonstration... Although, most of us experienced guys, did catch the bare copper strands at the beginning... Being thorough, doing a basic inspection, and not "assuming" it had to be related to the previous repair.. Great catch, and a great segment!!!! Thanks for all you do...

Yup, problem is when I first diagnosed it before filming the wire still had memory to it and was not sticking out like that.

It just blows me away that a high dollar truck like that has zip ties holding stuff together. These vehicles are to high with a bunch of plastic and zip ties. Good video!

Great find. What was the part number for the harness? I can see ill be doing my wifes truck because she uses hers everyday. Im surprised it hasn't broke yet.

Got to love engineers that don't test stuff correctly. Honda have problems with their door opening and closing in the windows wouldn't work. Back in the 90s. Damned engineers!! This is why stuff needs to be tested over and over and over!!!

Amazing diagnostic video from you as per usual! I am trying to figure out why the scan tool read 14.3psi when the air pump wasn't running unless it is absolute pressure and reading atmospheric pressure.....
@jimmyaber5920
@jimmyaber5920 9 месяцев назад
Most values on scan tools for pressure are absolute. 14.5 psi at sea level. I'm in north TX and at 620 above sea level and I see 14.3 on pressure sensors that normalize to atmospheric here
@FordTechMakuloco

Correct we are about 700 feet above sea level.

I personally would have made a loop in the harness to give it the best possible chance of survival. They don’t think of the long term. Thanks!

@@FordTechMakulocoI would have gone bigger. Back to the zip tie holding the module. Or add a new zip tie between the purple and dark blue air tubes More like how you described the '21 model. No flexing at the connector. What you have will last longer than factory but it's still a weak point.

@@volvo09 given all the soon to be unobtainable modules, you're probably right. The days of a 30, 40, 50 year old vehicle are gone (I own a '68, 70, and '71 vehicle).
