It’s been the butt of many jokes, but folks who need room for things a sedan can’t fit and still enjoy driving should consider a station wagon. Most Americans these days prefer crossovers, which have an elevated driving position that improves visibility and confidence as well as a less Country Squire-ish look, but happily, the new XF Sportbrake looks great and drives like a Jaguar. Available only relatively loaded, this hotter hatch aims to win over a very specific type of buyer, but if it succeeds, Jaguar might offer more trims to address a larger audience.
All XF Sportbrakes will use Jaguar’s supercharged 3.0-liter V6, with 380 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, and an 8-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels. That’s not a typical station-wagon engine, but the XF Sportbrake’s 5.3-second 0-to-60 time and 155-mph top speed aren’t typical, either. That's actually way more usable space than a Volvo V90 XC (69.7 ft^3 versus about 55 ft.^3), and yet they call it a sporting brake, which classically means sort of wagon looking, yet less practical. This is a true wagon. Kudos to Jaguar. I just wish wagons weren't only sold as luxury cars, that is to say "really expensive luxury cars." I'd be a lot happier with a Mazda6 Sportwagon or a Ford Fusion (Mondeo) Wagon or VW Passat Wagon, all of which exist in foreign markets at reasonable prices. As urban populations become more congested and cramped, is it not time to trade crossovers for wagons?

I think you mean V90 /CC? This is a much better vehicle dynamically, but of course it costs more.

it is not about to fall out. That gap is where the ambient light is. It could be finished better tho.

Or you can buy a new base model Subaru Outback Wagon for about $25k start.They sell very well and hold good value, I think Wagons are slowly making inroads.Fewer do-dads that will require fixing as it ages.

Subaru has moved out of wagons and their recent offerings are pretty sad. Find an older legacy wagon and your good but the newer stuff is crossovers. Mercedes e320/350 wagons are the only real competitors for the us.

I'd pay the extra 50 grand and get a Mercedes Benz AMG E63s wagon. Maybe get a Renntech exhaust ecm tune. It would sound like a boss with 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds. 😉

So much money for this junk. $84k for this is insulting. That interior is worse than any Honda. Wagons don't sell because only Subarau and VW make one under $40k. The cost is the problem. Not the wagon style.

Why the fetish for auto interiors? As a driver your eyes should rarely see the interior. As long as its decent, which it is, I don't get the emphasis on interiors. And Yes, at $84K it's not good enough. But it starts at $70K well equipped.
