@Brock - The Product Information Page link in the description is not working. BTW, I continue to be amazed that you guys make the parts if they're not available. In this day and age it is very refreshing to see some American ingenuity.
@Getis - Thanks, I fixed the link. Our new website has us fixing a bunch of them. And yes - right now we have designed and tested a prototpe exhaust for the new Z900RS, we have a Sprint Filter on the way and we are racing to finish the ECU flash. This bike is Euro 4 and Cali compliant, so there is a bunch of power being zapped. We will have an update soon.
@Taylor Eldridge Several exhaust versions for the z900rs are tested and in production and should be available in a few weeks. Skip to 55:00 to hear the sound of the prototype Street Megaphone: facebook.com/cycledragracing/videos/2243763285839243/ flash is in works also.
My last bike was a 2003 ZRX 1200. It had some work done and put down 135 hp and 85 ftlb at the rear wheel on a dyno. Would I be disappointed if I got one of these Z900RS?
@Wayne - absolutely not! The Z900rs a fun bike to ride with modern amenities (KTRC, fantastic brakes/suspension incredible style) - at a VERY attractive price. And, we can really help out in the power department...stay tuned for our next update ;)
Thanks Brock and Dan,will keep an eye on what you guys are doing with Z900RS and mirror it on ours over here in Australia,Wish I still had my Dyno shop👍
My 73 Z1 is missed. I had the 4 to 1 Kerker with 122.5 jets and it worked beautifully. The biggest jet I could put in any KZ 1000 I ever had was 107.5 jets with the same 4 to 1 Kerker pipe. To me, the carbs on the Z1 had a bigger throat among other things that gave it the ability to breathe. I am not sure of the valve train dimensions as I NEVER HAD TO OPEN IT UP. The original Z1 is the one I miss the most. Good Luck gentlemen.
I wish there was a way to make four cylinders sound deeper. I'm a twin guy, nothing beats that sound but DAMN THAT THING IS COMFORTABLE! I sat on one for the first time the other day and it was WAY more comfortable than my computer chair for sure.. It was way more comfortable than sitting on a Harley too. I really didn't want to get off of it. I thought it was going to be like a Ducati Monster and look great in videos and pictures but then you see a woman sitting on it and realize how tiny of a bike it is but it was about the same size as the classic one or a classic brit bike, maybe slightly longer.. Despite me being about 6'10 when I stand up straight (scoliosis... about 6'5-7 normally) the bars were only about an inch lower than I'd want, the seat height was comfortable (I only have barely a 30 inch inseam) and OMFG that thing was so light I about threw it on the ground taking it off the side stand! I'm used to pushing around a 348ish lb 1965 Triumph T120C that was set up for flat track racing in our garage but that thing almost felt lighter standing it up. Was blown away by just how comfy it was and just how well it fit me. Only two gripes, I wish the seat was flat instead of having that curve up that's meant to hold you on.. I don't sit with my balls on the tank, I like to sit back a bit and be able to move around as my hips and back need it and that thing kind of gets in the way.. Second was the peg position.. I'm not a sport bike guy, I like having the pegs mid mount with my feet in front of my knees not back behind me.. it wasn't too drastic, I could probably live with it stock for a little while but I think it'd get annoying pretty quick. A couple quirks of being a big guy with big extremities.. (stuff I'd expect to change on any bike) I'd likely have to swap out to a longer shifter arm or a heel toe to be able to shift with my size 15s, also the grips could be wider and thicker.. but the levers were perfect the way they shipped it and they are adjustable if you needed it. Like I said, I was blown away by just how much I liked it.. I thought I'd love the look and hate the bike... can't wait to ride one sometime. OH! And the paint isn't black like it looks, it's a really cool dark brown/red with orange pearl in it.. Funny to have a Kawi that's Harley colors (orange and brown) :D I'd take the orange flashing off and leave it straight brown.
@brock this is totally cheating 😜 Z800 is more popular bike ( I own 1 ) and you are straight away going for Z900 rs. Please do something with Z800 as well. 😀 Humble request
The other countries list the actual horspepower. 111PS for the Z900RS, which works out to be about 109 crank horsepower. 10% drivetrain loss is really low, so they did a good job on the bike. Somehow my ZX-6R would measure around 15% drivetrain loss.
I want to buy one of these. I am very curious what you come up with. 101 at the tire brand new isn't bad but you know there is another 20 in there without changing anything but tune. You are a long way away from AZ but, depending on what you come up with.....I don't want a high strung rocket ship just a really good running, stock appearing sleeper. If this old man could put it to some of these kids on their "race" bikes that would be fun. 😆
@Ron Hunter - the listed HP oif the bike does not match it's willingness to quickly rev on the dyno. It's definately being held back, we will just need to figure out exactly where... and fix it!
@Ron - that depends on the bike. We like the PCV for flexability when tuning, but some just want a 'flash and done' with no PCV. Some bikes are easier to deliver than others in this regard. We will know more as things progress.
Brock Davidson are you by chance doing just a tune on an otherwise bone stock bike? For now I think that's what I am interested in. Just a really good running bike. At my age I am liking smooth and quiet. My back won't allow me to do what I used too. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy wringing it out occasionally, but mostly just everyday riding.
I'm curious to know how the Z900 would compare to the Z900rs or if there's even any difference. I have a 2017 Z900 myself so I'm definitely gonna be tuning in to watch these videos. Great video as always brock. Keep up the great work!
Same here. 2017 Z900. From my browsing around the web, it could make about 125 whp and 73 wtq. The RS makes 10-12 less for the promise of a greater swell in the torque curve down low. Also sounds like Kawasaki has lowered the rev limit.
I will DEFINITELY be Watching the Progress on this bike! My Brother's FIRST bike was a 76 KZ900 -- in this same 'Root Beer' metallic -- and he already HAS a NEW ONE in his garage!! AND a good friend of his also already has one just like it! I Know they BOTH will want to KEEP that "tuned" factory exhaust, but both of them are also Very Interested in Boosting Performance! And I am 'thinking' about replacing my FZ1 with the new Z900RS Cafe... So... Show us what you can do!! (-;
Nicely done - FYI, the Z900 cams are hotter and should drop in. Also, the intake tubes (velocity stacks) are longer on the RS than the standard Z900 - I'm sure you'll make up some nice Brock versions! The RS also seems to have a larger air filter than the Z900, go figure. Several other variances, but the cam swap intridges me. Looking forward to seeing what your pipe and a decent PCV will do. Keep up the great work! Also: facebook.com/groups/217882632084527/
Wow - thats pretty shocking. My z1000 (Gen4) with a full system and filter makes 143 (with an ecu tune). Be interesting to see what you get out of it...!
I love the diversity but it’s a long way from the drag bike world but hey everyone has different interests As always keep up the good work and great videos
@Paul Bordelon - check this out: brocksperformance.com/s2b-performance-package-for-the-z900rs-2018/ - flashes are also available separately: brocksperformance.com/electronics-ignition/brock-ecu-flash/?_bc_fsnf=1&brand=45
@great death. The ecu is so restricted, we can't answer the 'what if' question until we can derestrict the ECU to obtain proper readings. The best we could expect under restricted conditions would be a 5-7 RWHP gain.
Another great video. I hate to get off topic but do you have a setup for a Gen 2 busa like what you have for the gsxr1000? Like pipe power commander with a tune?
@Mike Smith - thanks for the compliment on the vid. Of course! We built Brock's Performance on our combinations, originally with the Gen 1 Busa, and then the Gen 2 Busa took over and is still our best selling line-up. Go here and check out the Hayabusa Chronicles (Part 1 and 2): www.brocksperformance.com/brocknm/templates/bpp-plain.aspx?articleid=82&zoneid=7 we can make a Busa truly fly, give us a call if you have additional questions: 937-912-0054
While others find the results disappointing, I am glad to see it make this. As an owner of a Honda cb1000 I am a bit underwhelmed by the power it produces, but ok with it because I got it at $4000 off new. Others are comparing it to the claimed HP of the z900 but that's not what you are showing here but it is still disappointing that it 10 to 15 hp less than the bike it is based on. Looking fwd to how you can improve it. motorcycle.com.vsassets.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/102317-Naked-Sports-Threeway-hp-torque-dyno-546x388.jpg
@@BrockDavidson I guess that does make for more fun on the street. I'd love to see stock 1/4 times vs header and tune. I made the mistake once of going with too much cam in my street car, so I get it.
Im not gonna lie i was excited to see another video but then it wasnt the GSXR and got sad! I see its off the dyno, hopefully Teasley has hit it up at the track???
I forget your in ohio i believe, im in Texas. And awesome im ready for some more videos! How much horsepower and torque did it make after you tuned it?
It's a combination of header and cat design - that's why some bikes - ZX10R, R1's pick up as much peak with a cat delete as with a full system. This would not happen if the head pipes were a poor design.
112-115 probably. About 10-12 less than Z900. I'd say the RS would be real close to a tuned MT-09 hp rating, but much heavier machine of course and different torque curve.
We are currently developing performance products for the Z900RS as quickly as we can. Once we have the required items to derestrict and tune the bike properly, we will update the series with the results and info. If you are interested in a list of some of the currently available items, search z900rs on our www.BrocksPerformance.com home page.
@rico - we did all of this on the gen 2 v max. It was a beast - over 200 rwhp on good gas with a flash. Yamaha owners didn't purchase, so we canceled our entire line (except carbon wheels) after several years :(
Brock Davidson its a beautiful muscle bike but i know they didn't sell very good ...you don't see them very much around indeed...shame...badazz dragbike
I know I shouldn't have expected too much but my 85 ZL900 Eliminator put down 102 with a pipe and jet kit, and that bike was shaft driven. I woulda thought 33 years of technology would have bought a few more hp. Love the looks, though.
CaptainXanax keep in mind he said welcome to euro 4.. this means theres a great chance that after the ecu has been read out and altered and a new exhsust has been fitted there is alot of room for gains. So a pipe and restriction removal may gain 10hp, 20,30. We dont know yet. As we saw with the new gixxer and gen4 gen 5 zx10s there coming to us 30 hp lower from euro 4 restrictions..so imagine this thing with 30 more whp and 10 more ft lbs pf tq after an ecu flash with tune, full exhaust and air filter. That will be far ahead of the older models with 1500 bucks in mods and im sure a better head design on the new one for more top end pull..can't wait to see myself..
@raceaddict321- Well said. I'm sure we will extract plenty more hp from the new Z900RS + it has great suspension, traction control, and modern amenities. It looks great and has a baddass headlight and the fit/finish is above par for a bike of it's price, especilly these days.
raceaddict321 I agree there's a lot of room for improvement. I just kinda figured the base number would be higher and the improvement would be based more on that. I wouldn't think a 150 whp 900 would be much of a stretch after mods. Is Euro 4 going to be like the 70's of the automotive world where 400 cubic inch motors were putting down 190 hp?
CaptainXanax theres alot more to this than what we see on the surface.. i don't believe this bike will ever make 150whp even though when u think of an inline 4 with 948ccs it should be making that power like in terms of a sportbike. so the hp per cc equation is not going to be the same for this bike as say a modern sportbike.. even a 600 cc sportbike will make this hp but u see its In the heads. The 600 revs to the moon to achieve 100 hp and it certainly won't be anywhere near 65ft lbs.. this bike is designed for tq.. a 600 revs nearly twice as high and the z900rs has the same bore (73.4) as a 07 gsxr 1000 but less stroke which when u have a large bore to small stroke ratio usually u can rev high. This bike revs almost 4000 rpms less than the 07 gsxr 1000 and even with identical engine specs as the 2017 z900 its still redlining 1000 rpms less and makes 15hp less.. kawi says the exhaust system is designed different to give more low end and midrange and im pretty sure the heads and cams or atleast the cams alone are different.. so here we have a block designed/capable to rev high from its bore and stroke specs but it doesent which points to overall head design.. so to me 1 of 2 things will happen. It will just end up being a good bit stronger up top after flash/ tune and exhaust due to conservative head design. Or it can surprise the hell out of us all and it may be able to handle 1000 more rpms easily and make power all the way to the rev limit with no taper at the end which means this bike was highly restricted.. but if the head design is conservative and the cams dont have the same duration and lift as the z900 it will never support higher revs and high whp.. I'm leaning more towards this being a low to midrange monster with greatly enhanced top end once finished and not a fire breathing high rpm screamer making power all the way up top.. but one things for sure.. this bike will have rediculous potential if u ever go into the heads.. well over 30whp and well over 1000 rpms with ease because i feel this bike is purposely restricted in the heads because of its intended purpose of being designed for torque and not peak power.. one last thing. I own a zx14R and also a yamaha fz09.. 14r puts down 201whp and 116ft lbs and the fz09 puts down 111whp and 61ft lbs and i tell u the fz09 has a more kick in the pants feeling from 2k-7k rpms making almost half the power. Its all in the powerband and gear ratios.. that grunty sensation is what kawi wanted for this retro bike. Thats what will deliver the smiles..
I don't see 150hp either. I'd be happy with a very grunty 120hp. I've got a ZX14R too, but I'm looking at one of these for the streets. Love the look other than the front fender brace. I even like the stock pipe look. I can't use peak HP on my way to work anyways.
