The 2018 Kawasaki Z900RS Review is a gorgeous retro styled basic modern bike priced right for those looking to get in to the mid sized street category. It's light on features but most of those it has are very comfy and refined, with just a little room for meaningful improvements.

Your reviews are excellent but I think u forgot to mention it also comes with 2 modes of traction control, I actually think with the analog tach and speedo, ABS and adjustable pre-load this goes a little beyond a "basic" bike.

Had mine 3 months now, put 1800 miles on it. Love it! I traded my BMW R Nine T for it. I'm 6'4 and 190lbs and i fit very comfortably for all day riding. I agree with your assessment of the brakes, I'll be changing to steel braided lines next time I have it in for a service to get a better feel. At first throttle felt very snatchy going from closed to open, which can mess with your rhythm during slow speed corners. However, now that the bike is run in it feels a little smoother, I'm also more familiar with it and can adjust for it I suppose. They have big discounts and financing deals happening on the leftover 2018's, and they're offering a free Akrapovic slip on, which I have and it sounds awesome. Beautiful smooth 4 cylinder for around town riding, ramps up nicely through the rev range once you get out on the open road. Nice tall 6th gear makes for effortless higher speed cruising too. If you're strictly sticking to the tarmac and looking for ONE bike that can do almost everything well, this is the one. There may be other bikes with more electronics and features out there, but for what you pay, you get fantastic build quality and attention to detail, easy fun handling, and an engine that'll make you chuckle and grin (without being scary) every time you get a chance to open it up. I'm seeing anywhere between 150-180 miles before the light comes on between fill ups, so it makes a good commuter, too.

The instruments are exactly like the Z1 it's based on, not some Honda! i.pinimg.com/originals/fa/52/a6/fa52a64c0e892b59a0d6f46c78c3fadc.jpg

They really got that retro look spot on, it is a good looking bike. Has a completely different feel from the regular Z900. With the regular Z900 you sit down in the bike and it feels more like a naked sportbike. The RS has a much taller feel, it feels like your sitting on top of the bike.

The green one with the case faring is the best looker in my opinion. I'd love to see Honda bring the CB400 "Su-Four" over in response, the v-tech engine and overall refinement make it a great commuter and overall cool bike.

I like they call it a Z900 when it's really a 950cc unlike the Mt09/Tracer 900 which is 850cc. I prefer the looks of the Z900RS.

I tested this bike, it looks retro but it didn't feel like one, a bit too modern very similar to the Triumph speed twin, also too modern. The Royal Enfield Interceptor is the only modern retro that really puts a smile on your face & is very close to a 60s classic motorbike. Brian, it's all about how a certain type of bike feels, you missed the point for me.

She's a good looker. Tail tidy, smaller indicators, pipe and some lumpy camshaft and she be much nicer. Its a shame they didn't make it a 6 speed. I'm keeping my ZRX 1200R

I always look forward to your reviews which seem to be accurate and unbiased. I rode a 900 Kaw in 1973 and this bike does look similar if I remember correctly. I don't remember the 73 being that tall of a bike. Of course it's been a long time ago. One thing I do remember distinctly is the top end performance of that bike. At that time, they were scary fast.

I'm only 1 inch taller than you with the same inseam. I was wondering if you could see this bike being comfortable for about 150 miles or so.

Not much not to like, except price. Also - why the tank’s pinch weld on a bike designed to be a fashion accessory?

It's a sweet bike, I saw it in person. I could have had this or the MT-09 or the XSR900. I like the looks of this bike better, but everything else bettor on the XSR. More exiting engine, much lighter weight, etc.. Both sweet bikes though.
@threethrushes
@threethrushes 6 лет назад
I got the XSR exactly a year ago. It is a great bike, but do your diligence beforehand - there is no space under the seat, and suspension will have to be upgraded. I have toured on it, and it is my daily bike for town use so I have made quite a few of the usual mods. Aftermarket range is excellent.
@bwxmoto
@bwxmoto 6 лет назад
Yes you can go in many different direction with mods. Nice suspension would totally transform the bike. I may do that someday.
@dinosabelli8652
@dinosabelli8652 6 лет назад
In twenty years they will still be talking about yahama's crossplane triple. Upgrade the suspension of an XSR ( with all the money you'll be saving by not purchasing an RS) and boom it's in another league compared to the Kawasaki.

This is on my short list. Right now that list is the T120 Black, R9T, and the Z900RS. To me, it is a good combo, the looks of the Triumph with similar performance to the R9t. Only it comes with a fully adjustable suspension for just under the price of the other two bikes! Your assessment echoed what I've heard from others. Kind of tall, I've heard the brakes compared to being made out of wood. I'd like them to do a demo day near me again. Definitely want to ride before I buy.

Arizona RE interesting comment. My short list is: Triumph Street Twin, this bike, Yamaha sr400, and maybe a Kawa Vulcan.

Time to get one of these now. Best review on here Brian as always!. Prices are $9200 now and dealers have lots of leftovers 2018s. Looking myself this weekend. Loved my 1973 Z1 in 1977.

I like it the way it is would not change a thing I would not mess. With anything that has to do with the emission system I did that to an older bike I had modified the exhaust and ended up destroying the engine. I learned my lesson don't mess with the air box or exhaust because the. Stock setup is tuned perfectly. When you modify those two you will be buying a new bike

I’m picking mine up Wednesday. Already been for a test ride and loved it. I’ve always owned twin cylinder bikes, so a four is new to me and boy is it smooth. Love the seat as well as my back isn’t the best. I think it a great all round bike, and everyone I know agrees it looks a million dollars.

After watching your review, I'm glad I own an XSR900. And for all the nostalgic motorcyclists on RU-vid, in twenty years, people will still be talking about Yamaha's crossplane triple.

Great review but is it worth $11k? I really don’t think so. Once demand for these bikes softens I bet there will be some decent discounts later this year. Seems like a bike that should be priced under $10k. How was the fueling?
@mrvwbug4423

It is a huge price jump from the regular Z900, which has more power and a bit sportier suspension.

The RS suspension is better than Z900 and has more adjustabillity. Same goes for brakes, they are monoblack and better than Z900. Z900 has more top end power yes, but RS has the tourqe availible much earlier than Z900. Finish is better than Z900, + RS has traction controll. Worth the premium, no its a bit to much. But hey, if you dislike the Z900 looks, this could be the way to go.

I like the styling. About the only couple of things that I would have like to see them do is a cleaner tank (no pinch at bottom) and a 4 into 4 or 4 into 2 exhaust and some bright wheels or even spokes.
