One of the most underrated car in the market. Hopefully it will gain recognition from Bobby's, Kon's and Beng's reviews. But on the other hand, as a owner I would not want this car to flood malaysia road like myvi or axia as well 😂
Finally for this review! My wife and I have decided to get this car right after test driven the Myvi. Huge difference in term of the ride quality. It handles really well and the steering is rather quick and direct. My biggest complaint after being an owner for 3 months is the fuel consumption is not the best in the segment, archives an average of 13km/l. Loving this ride so far.
ohhh.... fuel efficiency has never been the strong point of Koreans. I remember driving an earlier version of this Kappa 1.25 engine in the Hyundai i10, that thing was quite thirsty.
it does depends on our foot but not always the solution. engines have different tunes. some are well engineered. some are not. like proton iafm engine. drive sedately still not as fuel efficient as some other 1.3 litre engines.
im getting one soon~~ gr8 review.. most my friend recommended me to get myvi but I'm still going with this. I think the quality is better and feels premium compared to myvi.
We got the ex and almost everyone I met look down on it.. until they sat inside😂 the refinement in this small car is miles ahead than the other car for the same price.. and no one want a kia so automatically anti theft 😂
Im buying this car. Test drive picanto less than 2 weeks ago. Very smooth ride. Awesome motor driven steering. Nice interior despite no leather seat. Price only rm49K+. Affin bank offer loan with only 2.66% interest. Much lower than myvi. I only looked at picanto as Perodua really disappointing me. Already booked since early June, and they tell me still have to wait til end of this year. This picanto is a great car to cure my disappointment towards myvi 😊
Ya. Dont really need space since I bought this for city drive and to go to office only. Still adapting with small sized car ^_^. Already owned this picanto for a week, so far I'm loving it except the fact that I have to refill the fuel once a week (RM50+ can only drove me +/- 200km). My previous car would cost me rm150++ for a full tank and can drive me up to 2 weeks.
i was driving prado tx 3.0 but sell it off already. after that i just drive my husband's car camry 2.4 while waiting for new car. I already drive this picanto from Kota Kinabalu to Keningau which the road was very challenging, the hill very steep, curvy and long. But changing gear to 1 still can speed up around 80km/H with aircond on. Impressed with this picanto. and the apple car play really helps while using google maps =)
To put in simply, this car is magical and almost feels like a C segment car. Sophisticated car, according to Bobby a picanto even out-engineered a VA polo.
If I was younger, handling is important. Iriz would be my choice. But now, at my age, I have wisen up. Refinement is everything. A great handling car without refinement can be fun, but ultimately tiring. A car with refinement, even without so much handling, is a God sent. So much more comfortable and livable on a day to day basis.
How are you liking the Rio? To be honest, I think the Picanto more enjoyable to drive la. Haha. The Rio is a fantastic car for the money too... just needs a more potent powertrain and smaller rims.
I own one, this is my 2nd Picanto. the first was a 2014 which I sold off for this after 190k of mostly PJ to Genting (You passed by my house in this review) It is my commuter car and I bought it for the price, the reliability, features and the balance between comfort and handling this car offers. There will be a GT Line model coming soon, was waiting for it as was hoping it would be with the 1.0TGDI engine but it turned out to be the same engine and gearbox.
Oh, we stay in the same neighbourhood. So how does the new one compare to the previous gen model? A few of my media friends have the previous gen model, and they are universally happy with the car.
The previous was in itself a fairly well sorted car and it certainly was a benchmark for how a sub-RM60k should be and I would say it certainly exceeded my expectation where the only real disappointment was the engine lacked low end torque. Never really viewed the space as a problem as it is to be expected when buying a small city car in the same vein one never buys a Mazda MX-5 and complains it doesn't have enough space. It was a good car which was the reason unlike previous cars I kept it for 4 years and 190k where previously all cars were let go at 3 years and before it reached 100k. Previous cars include Waja, Myvi, a Fiat Panda and a Suzuki Swift and all of them became problematic right around 90k. The new certainly is an improvement over the old in terms of comfort and handling, it does deliver slightly better fuel economy and torque is more linear. It feels more refined and unlike the previous car that had exterior design but not really much in the way of interior design this one is the opposite. Currently done 16k since June, the only thing I wish is the infotainment system could hide away into the dashboard when not in use similar to the Volvo S40. Agree with the assessment that this isn't an ideal family car and it was never intended to be.
If I am looking to buy either this or myvi which would u recommend? For me I don't mind the size as I am the only one that will be using most of the time. In terms of fuel consumption, driving experience and comfort, I should choose myvi or picanto ?
Good review, only concern no arm rest! 😂. I believe it has 6 airbags correct? Its a very good city car, good enough for daily travel from home to work, good for groceries, good for Point A to Point B.

It is mostly cosmetic upgrades. the drivetrain and chassis were untouched. space is the same. nvh also the same. so in terms of feel of driving, i reckon it is the same as the old alza. really, it is a really minor facelift. but since old alza is selling well with less complains, i dont think u would go wrong with it.
No indication they would, but I hope they do. Suzuki makes lovely cars. The Swift, for example, despite its relative mechanical simplicity, is a joyful car to drive

Hi kon. How do you think this car would be in the long , reliability wise? Knw someone close who owned the old gen picanto, and it was not only not reliable, but the parts were also expensive
First gen probably, but I understand the 2nd gen was pretty good. This should be alright too. Korean cars have improved their reliability significantly over the past 10 years, though I understand parts remain costlier than Japanese equivalent.
I owned a 2014 Picanto, did 190k much of it PJ to Genting on a near daily basis. Other than sending it in for the usual servicing I never had to replace any parts on it other than the shocks, battery and I replaced the tyres annually for safety purposes. Not sure where the perception comes from but the Picanto was rated as one of the most reliable cars in Europe where it is extremely popular.
Parts and servicing cost definitely more expensive especially if you buy those parts at a service centre. However parts such as brakes and shocks do often have a 30-40% off sale and that's when I purchased it and kept it at my usual service centre to store till it was needed. However the one part that is significantly more expensive than other cars in its class is the depreciation.
Wanted to get my younger sister a used first gen picanto/suria for her first car as he just started college. Trying to find something on cheap FC and anything below rm10k. For now I'm only thinking about suria gen1, getz, wira and also an old toyota corolla..tho the corolla is roughly 20 years old..but i heard the toyota corolla especially is the most reliable car out there...even if it's old..i may be wrong..lol. Mainly has to be cheap on fuel and maintenance. What do you think is good purchase? Thanks in advance btw.
Between the choices you mentioned, I'll pick the Corolla AE101 la. Legendary car. Ridiculously over-engineered. They called it a mini-Lexus for good reason.
Melaka to Shah Alam everyday? I thought myself PJ to Genting almost everyday was far. Average is around 11-12km/l but if you take away the hills and keep a constant 110kmh you can get around 14km/l. There are more to the story when commuting long distance, you will need to take into account servicing cost, cost of replacement parts and tyres as well. There is also the element of safety and comfort, this is where for a sub-RM50k car you won't go wrong. If only fuel consumption was the determining factor then the car to buy is a Mitsubishi Attrage/Mirage unfortunately it does not deliver much else.
Im planning to buy either this or iriz 1.6. Which one do you think much better? Need to make a decision asap since I’ve submitted the docx for both car 😂 regarding the space, it’s not my biggest concern. Which one do you suggest?
If space is not a big concern, the Picanto is a more refined car. I'd recommend the Iriz if you're a regular long-distance traveller, but if for urban commute, I'd go with the Picanto.
No numbers to measure, but my gut feeling tells me they are on par. Feedback from friends using this car is that Picanto's FC is quite high relative to its engine size. But it's still bearable for middle income user la.
No personal experience, so can't comment conclusively, but my observation is that satisfaction is not as high compared to Japanese brands. Parts definitely costlier than national cars.
Car designed for european markets. Also, Kia has a design center in Germany. Also, Kia's chief designer is a German, Peter Schreyer. He was an ex Audi designer. Kia's design and engineering has progressed leaps and bounds starting from the Forte.
Fuel consumption? Not exactly sure, but I think in the region of 9L/100km. I hear it's a little thirstier than Japanese engines of similar capacity and output.
