So I was lent a Moto Guzzi V7 as a courtesy bike so decided to do a first ride on it. Its a bike I have dreamed of owning, customising and having fun on. So how did it stack up?

Liked your honest video. I bought a V7 Black Carbon edition which I love. it has been only few weeks but changed the pipes to Mistral that sounds like a beast roaring with a gentle nudge. In town it is a fantastic bike, a lot more manageable than my last bike - S1000XR - which got stolen by the way. This bike is not about the power, although it has a lot of torque in low to mid revs and a with a bikini fairing it does a fairly decent job at deflecting the wind at higher speed while not looking like grandpa's bike, and with a café racer seat, it makes me smile every time I see it in the morning!

Thank you for your review and thoughts on this moto. I have the Special model that has Rev Counter, I didn't like the idea of owning a classic bike without the traditional 2 clocks! I have to notice that "your" bike has traction control, in fact it has 2 different TC settings plus a "no TC" setting. Also what you found to be annoying is a problem for me as well. When its windy, it is annoying to travel at over 50-55mph but when its calm, the sweet spot is between 65-75mph. Riding position at least is great for a huge range of body shapes, and I find it to be relaxing yet always in control. Most of all though I like the looks, the sound of the engine when I throttle the moto from low rpm with one gear up, and the little metallic sounds it is making when I am switching it off!

Thanks for the review, this is definitely a bike I would consider if I was allowed more bikes in my shed.

I have the V9, great review and honest. Subed. I've found they're definitely bikes for older men, with a garage, who have owned fast bikes in the past, been there done that etc. They get bought as beginner bikes that's what I did but by doing that you miss out on the fun of much more capable rides. They're for odd balls who can't stand to be the same hahah

Daniel Symes thank you and thanks for the sub. I think it would be a great second bike. But i wouldn’t want one as my only bike.

Could u please share your experience of your V9 as your first bike? I'm too considering the V9 or the V7 as my first bike, so I'd really appreciate your opinion on the matter. Ride safe!

I traded my V strom in for a V7 carbon . I love it but it’s a totally different experience from the V strom.
@kumonojuuza

Difference.. ??is Engine and torque enough?? Or u prefer v strom's engine ?
@tocatchasnark1471
@tocatchasnark1471 6 лет назад
kumo No Juuza , thanks for the question. The torque is plenty enough. It goes through the gears a little to quickly for me , but you don’t have to bother changing down because there’s plenty of grunt. But it’s a lot slower than the vstrom . The V strom was a smooth easy going bike. Practical.... Boring. I had the V strom as my main commute to work and it was brilliant in that role . But I changed my job and no longer have to commute. So I got a bike of my dreams and it makes me smile. On paper you would get the V strom every time. It’s practical, has a fuel gauge, Rev counter , wind protection and lots of luggage carrying capacity. But your heart would tell you get the V7. And when you sit on it you can see those big red cylinder heads and feel the shudder from side to side 😍

I traded my FZ07 for a V7III Carbon Dark. I love it! The FZ07 has a nice engine, but the rest is cheap plastic trying to look like something it isn't.

Just as you seemed to be feeling the love, you went cold on the Beauty. What is the fascination with fuel gauges? Hells teeth it makes me wonder how I coped for the last 40 years!! :) I get the rev counter thing, I like one too... but trust me she would have told you when you needed to change gear if needs be, but these things are all about torque.... always fancied me an MG but I can see how you have to 'buy in' to this sort of bike. If you like (love?) a bike enough you can tour on it. (As Hippo-Drones says in his comment) I confess I've not ridden one, but I doubt bumpy 'B' roads are the best place for the MG nice twisty sweeping A roads with a good surface like you would find in North Wales would be my choice...in fact I can think of a few now.... good to hear your thoughts on the bike by the way.

Paul Lee personally they appeal to my ocd ha ha. Not like all the pens on a desk have to be straight but I have a real thing about did I lock the door, set my alarm etc. I’ll often be on the way to work and turn round to check. Or with motorbikes do I have enough fuel ha ha. Oh you could easily tour on it. Seat and suspension are comfy. It just was missing something. I didn’t get that fuzzy feeling from it. I found the tighter the road the more fun it was. Probably cos it kept telling you to change gear so often on an a road. Although hippo drones since told me they set the shift light to go off at a lower rpm before the first service.

Looks like the gear change light was set very low, it'll do over 100mph in top so had a wedge more revs than you were able to give it. I removed my rev counter, never really felt the need to look at it as the engine tells you when it is time to change! :-) The standard pipes muffle it way too much. Mine toured very well around Europe, but then I am used to naked bikes so don't really notice the wind blast, it also put some bikes to shame around Brands Hatch GP circuit that it had no business overtaking, so it does have a turn of speed if you want it. I do love having a shaft drive on it, I hate lubing and adjusting chains! :D Great to hear your thoughts on the bike mate
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 6 лет назад
Hippo-Drones probably cos the miles where so low. The engine would just start to pick up and it would tell you to change. Oh it’s a nice bike and like I said I’ve always dreamed of owning one. Not many negatives atall and lots of positives. It just didn’t give me the fizz felt like it was missing something but can’t work out what it is. Suspension, engine, brakes, gearbox all good and riding position was nice. Defiantly needed after market pipe but still felt like it was missing something.
@HippoDrones
@HippoDrones 6 лет назад
My old man thought the same when he rode mine (when it was standard) Maybe they need a bit of customisation and personalisation to get that love going? :-)
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 6 лет назад
Hippo-Drones maybe the case. Being able to hear that amazing engine note with some louder pipes would definitely add to the experience. Might have to see if I can ride one that had been run in and see the difference.

Rev Light is adjustable. After breaking in, the dealer should reset it to pop at a more appropriate rev range. Mine atm is at 4.500 revs and top torque is delivered at 6.200 revs. Red Line is at 6.500 revs. (I have the special, where both clocks are available).

Hang on. It tells you your MPG but not how much fuel you've got? Agree on the tank. Don't like that at all. I wonder if the pipes would touch down first.

@@AGardenShed Those pesky Italians with their logic. To be fair, I'd love to retire to Italy. Those roads around the Dolomites and the northern lakes...

Oh I think Italian logic is hilarious. I know I want to move there but fancy living somewhere more south than north. Then I can always ride to the mountains but prefer the more rural enviroment. Plus property in the south is dirt cheap.

Yes that is one of my biggest pet hate on V7. In fact there are some useless indication of "Time" on the bike! but no fuel indicator, but average fuel consumption and average miles etc, but once you get passed 15-16 litres out of the tank of 21, a yellow light indicator comes on and display shows approx. mileage left - normally shows about 40 miles left till it dries out, which is not bad. oh, and there are two trip settings too

Please restart your fs videos on your gaming channel for the release of fs19. I understand if you don’t but would love to see some more gaming videos from you.
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 6 лет назад
James Cutler I would like to but unfortunately I do not have the time to run two channels and I prefer making the motorcycle videos. That and after my surgery I cannot wear headphones anymore so the game sound would be picked up through the voiceover microphone and the whole video would sound horrible. Which is one of the main reasons I shut the gaming channel. I hope you enjoy FS19 when it comes out. I’m looking forward to it. Got a week off work for the release.

Back in the day the if you chopped the throttle mid corner on a big Guzzi they could smack you into the road? Urban myth? Dunno
@AGardenShed

Womanwolfrider can be quite severe if your overzealous on or off it destabilises the bike in a corner.
@JR-bj3uf

Believe me as someone that was well antiquated with bikes from the 70s, it was not necessary the bike that would put you down but the hard as bricks tires of that era.
@Womanwolfrider

Gosh yes those ‘bakerlite’ feeling tyres were terrible (lasted a million miles though, if you survived)
@jeffslade1892
@jeffslade1892 5 лет назад
Urban myth. And the horrible Pirelli tyres. On Avon Roadrider the V7 is like a cat on rails. You soon get used to the torque and can use it to lift or drop the bike further in bends. The lean angle is until your toes touch the road, and it remains stable.
@Womanwolfrider
@Womanwolfrider 5 лет назад
I was referring to bikes in the 70’s ie the 850 Le Mans, urban myth? Who knows I didn’t ride one, just the road tests at the time, Avon road riders in the 1970’s dunno if they made them then, may have done, I do seem to remember a ‘V’ profile tyre, never tried them though!

Very flat power curve, just like the old VT/NT Honda's and the CX before those, sucks the fun right out The mid weight Guzzis always were horrible and porridgey, I've got a full fat 1100 California, and, though not as civil, its way, way, more entertaining.

What happened to all your gaming vids?
@AGardenShed
@AGardenShed 6 лет назад
Supaortix I have always had two channels. But I closed the gaming one down in March for a few reasons. The main one being was too time consuming running two channels and I prefer making the motovlogs. I shut the gaming channel down about six months after I stopped uploading content on it and renamed this from A Garden Shed vlogs to A Garden Shed. I do sometimes miss making the gaming videos but due to my surgery I can no longer make them as there would be no way to record the voice over without the mic picking up game sound as I can no longer wear headphones.
