The manual clearly states the you should be using a new crush ring on the oil plug. You make no mention of it, but show the owner's manual that says install the drain bolt WITH a new gasket.
@ScoutsOut
@ScoutsOut 4 года назад
Yes there is a crush washer on the drain bolt and I reused it, it’s one of those good ideas to replace. I will personally reuse them until they appear damaged. Hope this helps

Try to stay away from k&n oil filters. I’ve read that they have been having a lot of issues with motorcycles. Even to the point where some circuits and tracks have banned them on motorcycles because they pop/break/come off somehow and spill oil everywhere. Great video!

That new oil in the sight glass looked dirty. I literally just did my 600 mile service and the new Mobil 1 oil (same as you used) in my Z400 (same engine as your Ninja) looks very light and transparent. I also found that it did indeed need the "0.1" quart to bring it up to just above the center of the min/max lines. You either didn't drain it all out so had enough residual oil to make dirty the new oil or you cheated and added old oil to the new......
@ScoutsOut
@ScoutsOut 4 года назад
yup, i should have drained the oil longer or ran it longer to heat up the oil to get more out. Either way was successful and still running strong, thanks for watching and good luck to you

great video. i started changing the oil myself on my 400 after watching this and seein the filter is accessible without taking the bottom plastic off. question though, what size is the cup you are attaching to the ratchet to get your filter off? i'm having a really hard time finding it and spend the majority of my time trying to get my filter off with the wrong tool or clamping down on it with big ass pliers, denting it and getting it off that way. it's one solution but i'd rather not have to crush every old filter to get it off lol. thanks in advance
@seanwatts392
@seanwatts392 4 года назад
You can just twist off the oil filter with your hand
@lee-enfield0247
@lee-enfield0247 3 года назад
Use the wrench only for removing the filter
@ScoutsOut
@ScoutsOut 3 года назад
And it you are torquing it on, most filters I put on by hand but with a motorcycle I torque things down. Just personal preference

Good morning, how are you? Today I changed the oil in my ninja (just like yours) and the mechanic went to the motorcycle table, a very nice information sheet of all motorcycles, accommodated by the mobil, and there it was that the ninja 400 has to put 2.3 liters and it was Thoughtful, because for me it would be 2 liters (changing the filter together). Well, he changed the filter and put in 2 liters of motul (which I had taken) and 300 ml of mobil (which I bought from them) could there be a problem? Detail: I change every 4 thousand km, and walking 1000 km a month. hugs

Good morning, I personally don’t spend much time or thought on the exact amount of fluid. I believe it’s more important to have the oil level within the spec of what the bike is asking for with the dipstick or sight glass. We never know how much oil is left in the engine during the oil change as that is never going to be a direct science. Hope this is helpful 🍻

I bought a 2020 400 and the guy bought it a year ago with 0 miles and put 400 miles on it. I just bought and said he has left it sitting in the garage should I change the oil or am I still good for another 1,000-2,000 miles??
@ScoutsOut
@ScoutsOut 3 года назад
If it’s got that few of miles he still hasn’t broke in the engine and most likely has not changed the oil, I would ride it to 600 miles and change the oil
@CertifiedClapaholic
@CertifiedClapaholic 2 года назад
I did my initial break in around 800 miles. It's really nbd if you go a little over. After that, it's every 6000 miles (or every year) but honestly, changing your oil every year if you're not putting 6k miles on it is just a waste. Synthetic oil technology has come a long way. Edit* of course, this does go against your manual so bear in mind that it could possibly affect your warranty. But it's 99.999% of the time not going to be the cause of any issues if you don't change your oil every single year if you're not hitting 6k.

Hi, bike noob here when the bike is in the side stand, does it show empty on your engine oil level inspection window.? Its full when bike is upright...
@ScoutsOut

Hi, yes it shows empty on the bikes side stand as the window is on the right side of the bike and it will show full when the bike is perfectly straight up, which is how you should check it…enjoy your bike!!!

@ScoutsOut

Your never going to get it all out but is you run it for 3-5 min before you drain and make sure the dipstick is out, plug and filter off you should be good letting it drain for 10 min

@Tesla-Model-S-Plaid
@Tesla-Model-S-Plaid 5 лет назад
Without having any rear or center stand/jack, taking off the small bottom fairing piece was the only way I was able to get at the oil filter. Did first oil change, they had it torqued on there so much I had to grab it with a big pipe wrench to get it off. I simply hand-tightened the new one.
@Tesla-Model-S-Plaid
@Tesla-Model-S-Plaid 5 лет назад
Taking of the bottom side fairing was easier than I thought it'd be, so if you even just think it would make it easier, go ahead and take out those 3 screws with an allen key wrench.
