Zak _ that’s my whole issue. It should compliment the rest of the battery, but it just sticks out like a sore thumb. It just becomes ear grating to me after about two or so minutes.
@@mel-px7hl I see your point. However, I feel that articulations should be clearly heard. It's the same reason why you don't tune tenors to the the same pitch of a bass drum. Diversity is key. But, to each his own my man.
This is so bad ass!! One of my favorite shows for sure!! And Josh you a true perfectionist, great to watch you for so many years! As a tenor player myself, I got super respect for you!
@@samshoemaker7865 Sam send me your video and I'll upload it for you and give you credit. I've uploaded SCV and BD videos so there shouldn't be an issue.
I had him as my percussion director at Lone Star High School the year before covid. Was a great little run with him for a marching season. I love you Josh
@@Jacob.Cornejo ?? SCV did not win in 2011. I'm commenting on Josh not having been born when SCV last won by itself in 1989. Did Penland march SCV 11-18?
Dude, I remember when they came here, I’m currently in the 8th grade but I was my high school’s marching band in the fall. I was in the front ensemble so I can’t say I marched this field...........yet😉 But I am going out for quads THIS fall and I will always think of this video when I am learning drill on this field. So sick👌🏼
@@mckey6138 actully im a junior now. Made that comment when I was just a wee lad. But I marched three seasons on quads, two winters and a fall, played 3 solos in my last years winter show..now I’m on snare for my second season, my school’s line needed a good snare line (not trying to sound pretentious, we just have a hefty amount of rookies) and so I forced into the snare position, otherwise I would still be rocking quads. But I’m cool with it because above all I enjoy drumset the most and I’m pretty “that guy” at my highschool now. Miss quads but I’m very grateful for all the drumset opportunities I am given these days.
Okay but honestly, I never realized some of the opening body was in this. From the inhaling and exhaling on the prop to the arm reaches and heel stomping, all of it is just so cool. Truly the more I learn about this show, the more I love it.
In order from 4 to spock: Ab C Eb Gb Ab //They are also tuned low and have every single lug in nuclear proximity with other lugs of the same head. Take your time!
Yup_ Charles Yeah, those are the Dynasty drums. My high school marching band had those for half of a year, and I hated the design on them. Not to mention they were uncomfortable. When we got Ludwig drums where the harnesses had backpads, they were so much better. But yeah, the design is like too basic and overall ugly. And in the video, I don’t like the difference in color. I guess they’re different since the black part will be under the uniform, but still. So I agree with you, they ugly.
I'm PRETTY sure there was one wrong note played at 10:34, right hand stayed on drum 1 for one extra note. If you look at the other players they play 122224444... while Josh plays 121224444... no disrespect, i sure couldn't do it better, and of course doesn't matter bc SCV literally won first place. just thought it was like a cool easter egg lol Josh if you see this pls confirm/deny
The 6s have a purpose, but the spocks lose some of their impact in the 6-8 sets and the second Spock isn't worth it in a 6-6 set. The 5s have a central Spock that just needs to stand out. And I would argue your point. The fives work really well if you know how to be expressive with 4 drums. The 6s usually end up just being a gimmick.
