We have both of these cars on the farm.. 😂 We use the 200 series to get into Swan Hill ( about 100kms from our farm) My father has 6 of the 79 series. And I’ve learnt how to drive both of the cars. We tow a 3 tonne Jayco Van to put all of the motorbikes. Over all, I couldn’t chose between the both of the vehicles.
I don’t know why Toyota don’t bring an auto transmission option out in the 79.Its heaps better in sand for towing and driving around in the bush or make the 200 into a ute. Awesome tow vechicle the 200 is but with a payload of just over 600 kg in a gxl you soon run into legal towing issues. Even after a gvm upgrade it’s still not enough. Wont be long and all these 200s will have an encounter with the transport department towing caravans and horse floats and be forced to leave gear on the side of the road because of the terrible gvm of this car. Toyota why don’t you just fix this issue and give us a decent automatic tow ute here in Australia please with legal capacity’s that are realistic.
We need a chopped 200, single cab from the factory. Put on a custom canopy and then we talking!! As a couple with no kids driving a 2002 100 series Sahara as a 2 seater, there is no way we could go to a 70 series as the comfort is just not there for a daily driver....and yes, it needs an auto too. The after market love when Aussie's buy these trucks because another $20k on bolt ons generally... Ask ARB if they will recommend a new Dsico 5 and the answer is no because nothing from their catalogue fits. After driving one for 3 weeks in Iceland, it is a far superior drive than a 200 in my opinion. But with no real tailgate for touring it is deal breaker for - get this - my wife. haha.
In Europe we don't get the V8 in the LandCruiser. We get a D4 engine with 180hp. You'd have to import the V8 variant and pay a shit ton of money for emission taxes
What a stupid review! Not many people are going to be tossing up between these two, you may as well thrown in a Corolla as it would make just as much sense. I can't wait to see your Toyota 86 vs Nissan Navara review!
It's exactly what I am doing now.. I have a 2016 Sahara and am looking at a new 79 to set up as a tourer.. Sahara is too precious for the type of touring I want to do these days.
