Hi dude. Both of your videos about Remedy are perfect. And you also ride flawless. Keep it going! And also, i'm 1.70 or 1.71, what size would be better? 17.5 or 18.5?
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Miri Babayev Thanks Miri! At 1.70 I’d go for the 18.5, i ride the 18.5 at 1.74 and its on the border of being a little short for me, i think its always beneficial to go with the larger size when you’re on the cusp between sizes. You’ll benefit from the increased stability and not really sacrifice any playfulness.

Stories of a Mechanic if comparing it to the 2015 Reign, its a great bike, a side step with slightly better rear suspension, but the 2018 onwards Reign is a little stronger and has an excellent suspension design
@tezzasaurusrex
@tezzasaurusrex 4 года назад
@@mtbtelly5522 thanks for your reply. Main consideration for me is I'm a short guy (6'5") and need to be able to drop my dropper post as far down as possible. The curve in the seat tube on the reign poses a limiting factor to this. The remedy seems to have more seat tube space by the looks of it (I'm yet to confirm this). Keep up the great videos man
@mtbtelly5522

Ryan Gunn thanks man, I’ve had a good look at the reign 2 but there’s no one with a demo version available near me. I feel like it’ll be a rad bike to have and customize over time. The specs are good enough to be a reliable beast that will absolutely haul down the hills. You can upgrade the yari damper to make it a lyrik one day. Rear shock will be good, the rest you just replace as it wears out. It’s got the best paint job of the line up as well. Make sure you haggle!

Nice videos, love your dog ;-) just about to replace a 2013 Scott Genius 910 with either the 2018 Remedy 8 or the 2018 Scott Genius 920. Given that you tried both, what really sold you on the Remedy in the end? How much would I give up on the climb with the Remedy? I am 177cm so right on the upper end of the 18.5 frame. I can get one over $1000 cheaper (closing down sale) than the 19.5 though. What do you reckon? I have paddled both around car parks and feel in between.
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Andrew Neely Thanks man. At 177 I’d go for the 19.5. I’m 174cm and on 18.5 I feel on the upper limit. I could quite easily move up to the 19.5 which will bring slightly more stability. Remedy vs Genius; the Remedy has a better fork (160 Lyrik RC) genius at that price point comes with a 150 fox 34 with GRIP damper cartridge.(the fox fork was super smooth but a little under gunned for aggressive riding). The Remedy also has the space to upgrade the rear shock to a super delux, where the genius is restricted to the fox inline shock. Which felt good but I’m not sure it would be ideal for heavy hitting long descents. The remedy also comes with better brakes. The braking power from the 200 front 180 rear sram guides was noticably better than the slx setup on the genius. The genius is lighter and in the 27.5 version climbs slightly better than the Remedy (29er not so). But neither of these things were enough to ignore the increased descending performance you get from the Remedy. If you ride all day epics and spend a lot of time locking out your suspension on the fly the Genius might be the pick, but if its Descending performance and efficiency you’re after the Remedy is on the money 👌🏽

Hey MTB Telly! I enjoy watching your videos, very informative and you have awesome style. I'm 179 cm and will be buying a Remedy 8 very soon, but Unfortunately, I'm unable to demo the remedy. I'm in between sizes and wanted to see what you would suggest- 18.5 or 19.5? I have a long wing span at 186 cm if that helps with anything. I'm afraid to lose playfulness by getting the larger frame but I don't want to be cramped in the cockpit either. Thanks for your videos and suggestions, and keep ripping!!!
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Adam Stephens hey dude thanks! So I’m 174cm riding the 18.5. I feel like I’m right on the cusp and could’ve easily jumped on the 19.5 without issue. At your height the 18.5 will definitely feel too cramped. 19.5 will feel perfect for you and I’m pretty sure it comes with the 150 dropper instead of the 125 dropper that comes on the 18.5. You’ll really appreciate the extra drop in the seatpost and the extra reach. I hope that helps!

Sick bike man! I just tried to order the 18.5 remedy 9.8 and it is sold out so I nervously pulled the trigger on ordering the 19.5. I am glad I found your channel and saw that you thought you could ride the 19.5 that made me feel better about it because I am a little taller at 178-180cm. I hope it works out out because I am excited about having a 150mm dropper instead of 125. Are you still enjoying the bike?
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Gbfolger26 yeah man I’m absolutely loving the bike. At your height you would be cramped up on the 18.5, so its worked out well for you 19.5 will be absolutely perfect! I raced the local Gravity Enduro race on the weekend and slayed all day, its a weapon

Hey great review. I have tried the bike at Burke, Vermont last summer and jsut bought it this year. The bike does not feel as playful yet though. When you mention 4- 5 clicks on the fork, you mean the rebound damping,right, and not the compression ? and is that from the fast (close) or from the slow (or open) position? Thanks I appreciate. keep on riding! Marc
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Marc Thibault nah I’m referring to the compression from full open (no compression damping). I set the rebound up nice and fast to keep it smooth over the high speed bumps. The compression stabilises the bike as you wind it on, 3 clicks feels excellent 4 is great but starts to affect compliance too much

Scott Gibson yeah definitely go 170 cranks. They’ll be the perfect balance between being short enough for strong sprinting and bike control, and still be good for long hauls in the saddle. I run 165s now but thats purely for race benefits. Acceleration, manoeuvrability is switchbacks, and clearance

@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Bry MTB it will make the bike feel more controlled and less floaty up the front if that makes sense. It wont bob around as much and will feel more direct. But add too much and it’ll start to feel harsh and even a little dead. Its important to run your rebound reasonably fast as well to ensure the bike stays supple and maintains grip.

This bike or a 2018 Giant Trance 2? I'm wanting to get into MTB and just deciding on what ride to get.. mostly trail riding in my area.
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 5 лет назад
Starliner I’d definitely recommend riding them both. Remedy is a better descender, and the Trance would be a slightly better climber, a little lighter

Hey dude, if you were strapped for cash would you have gone for a remedy 7? or completely different bike altogether?... Ive demoed the upper ends as that is all that is available; a trance advanced and remedy 9.8 and im going to demo a fuel now. The remedy was much harder to climb than the trance but that was the only negative and it was a 37 degree day compared to 25 when riding the trance, I also didnt like the trance and its bounciness over everything it felt so skittish and Im not a great rider, I like the planted feel. Im very torn now as I dont want to go with other brands due to warranty. Im also not keen on a Fuel due to suspension travel as I want an 'everything' bike and I think it will lack on the downhills and at bike parks like thredbo. I cant get my hands on a reign to try so I just won't consider it unfortunately. Such a tough decision. Remedy 7 with Bupa discount is right on my 3k budget.

Billies Remedy 7. The SRAM Level brakes I’m not a fan of, they dont have the power for a hard hitting enduro bike. The NX groupset will work well but I’d be a little concerned about longevity and durability. The Yari fork is good and solid with a lower end damper compared to the lyrik. The rear shock will be good, i dont mind the deluxe at all. The wheels are great, hubs especially. You’re getting a fair bit of extra bang for buck on the 8 compared to the 7 and upgrades wont come cheap if you want to improve things down the track. I dont think the 7 is specced well enough to be considered good value, the 8 is great value with the bupa discount but a little out of your budget. For 2500-3000 i think you’ll get a much better specced second hand bike, but you’ll miss out on the benefits of warranty etc. trying to buy an ex demo remedy 8 might be an option, full warranty when you buy ex demo usually and a good chunk cheaper than new. Otherwise maybe hang off for a bit get a couple more dollars together, get friendly with the staff and see if they can meet you half way with a couple hundred off the price of the 8. I feel like for how its specced, and the performance of the bike, its the best value bike in the category easily. I hope that helps and didnt make things worse haha

MTB Telly Legend !!! thanks for the advice. Ill see how I travel, Ive always liked Treks, my hard tail is a trek and served me so well, so Im graduating to a dually and Im very partial to the remedy as my HT was a 29er and I really want 27.5 this time. It might just mean I have to wait. Plus 3-6 more months isnt a bad time as it gets closer to the 2019 release and bigger discounts are likely to be had on 2018's. Cheers !!

What do you think of the Merida one sixty 800 similar spec and price to the the remedy?
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Michael Foster i had a look at the spec, its a pretty good deal for the price. I rode a Merida a while ago, i reckon it was a 140 and it had a very weird pedal bob action. It felt really inefficient to pedal but that might’ve been a setup issue. I’ll try and get hold of one for a demo and see what they’re all about.

MTB TV the current version I guess. I’m thinking of swapping out my current stumpjumper for this bike or a reign.
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Lee Griffith this bike is very nimble and super efficient, and $1500 cheaper than the alloy Reign 1. Its faster out of the gate than the carbon Reign Advanced (rear shock feels better). But the alloy Reign was the fastest bike I’ve ever ridden. It was soo stable through rough stuff at speed and it pedalled quite well. That said it was a large which felt gigantic for me. The Remedy climbs as well or better, is more direct in its handling and cornering. The reign wants more input when throwing it around corners but will hold a line like nothing else.. I’d be genuinely stoked on either bike, i almost bought the alloy Reign but I couldnt get a good deal so I went with the remedy. With the money I saved I’m buying 165mm cranks and the Rockshox Super Delux rear shock to make the Remedy the ultimate descender. In my opinion the Super Delux is the best race pace oriented rear shock I’ve ever felt. Super plush and excellent platform to pump and pedal against

@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Andrew Kirwan there were plenty of opportunities to pedal strike with the 175s but it has more clearance than the new reign and maybe even the Scott Genius. So it feels pretty good, i think 170mm cranks would be the perfect spec for this bike.
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 6 лет назад
Andrew Kirwan you’ll definitely appreciate the bike in slack mode. Any clearance lost is made up for in the bike feeling instantly more confident and able. I dont see myself using the steep setting at all outside of doing an on track comparison with the two settings
