Love it. I've got a 1st gen Tundra with 6.5' bed also. I put a camper shell on it, built a sleeping/storage platform in the bed, and clamshell RTT on the roof. Acts like a bunk bed setup for my family of 4.

I started off looking at the 1st Gens. I think they are the best looking but the more I looked the more features I kept finding I liked on the newer ones. The 1st Gen that radica moonlander has is kinda the ideal set up.

2018 is the sweet spot for the tundras, first year with toyota safety sense, along with updated gauge cluster, and last year with a transmission cooler. 19-21 tundras god rid of the trans cooler. Looking forward to the build.

Didn’t know tundras were good at offroading? Check out some channels with tundras that are really great: www.youtube.com/@OutdoorAuto, www.youtube.com/@RevereOverland and youtube.com/@prospectoverland?si=NsUfeYvI-XxNNpFd

Congrats! Looking forward to seeing the build. My Tundra has been completely capable with everything I’ve thrown at it. In reality it’s not that much wider, but some tight PNW trails have left a few stripes.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
Yeah it’s really not that much wider. It’s noticeable when parking but once I’m used to it, I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Took my 2017 tundra out on some mild fire roads last night in the PNW. I have the exact same truck configuration and color as this one except it’s a 2017. Anyway I was thinking that last night, everyone talked about how much of a land yacht it is but I seriously don’t see that? It felt a little big bigger than my Tacoma but not too much. Sure parking in a crowded Trader Joe’s parking lot on a Saturday afternoon can be a pain in the ass but as far as off road goes I dunno I think it’ll be fine.

I do like that colour. It is so in right now. In Australia, we have a similar colour called Sandy Taupe available for the 70 Series Land Cruiser.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT 9 месяцев назад
Yeah I think they originally got that color from the old 40 LCs. It’s personally my favorite color they’ve done but the green is a close second. I wish we got the 70 series in the US, it would be a no-brainer.

I have a Titan not a Tundra but same concept. It’s a lot more comfortable in a full size versus suv or mid size truck and the capacity of gear and towing is great too. For me personally the comfort is worth the mpg trade off. Looking forward to see what you do with this one.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
Yeah I would make this trade all day. The comfort you get from a full size truck is unmatched.

Only thing I’m worried I might regret is mpg once I go bigger tires and load it down, but yeah so far I love this platform.

@@OXFOOT yes, but, if you drive mellow getting to the spot you are going to be offroading you can get about 13 or 14. while in 4WD about 9 to 10. I have a fully loaded project M and realistically most of the time there are fueling locations every 200 miles lol... and you can always carry 2 4 gal rotopax for those extra long hauls...

With 35’s and v-8 engine your mpg’ might be around 10-12 mpg..,highway will be 13-14mpg’s. But it doesn’t matter as long as you’re having fun and like your rig..

i dont do much offroading.. and trails. just a lot of camping via RTT.... and i always say my Tacoma was a toy.. and my Tundra.. is a truck... i'll take the latter all day long. theres NO comparison.. but to each their own.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
Having both would be the best setup. Ideally I’d like something small again along with this to fit on trails. But for now I’m not in a position to have both yet.
@justinpascarella
@justinpascarella Год назад
If you're getting a camper/RTT/Sleep system eventually why the 6.5ft bed still?
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
Being able to do either. Sleeping in the bed or in the camper especially when skiing. And also because I will be using this as a truck when we get land and house so it made more sense for that. Aesthetically the crew cab wins by far but for me the double was the right choice.

Can't wait to see what your Tundra looks like in a year with a bed cover and other mods installed. My Tacoma came with black step up rails similar to yours but not chromed out. I've been thinking about swapping them for something more aggressive that gives more ground clearance and lose the stock look. I know they make them with lights that turn on when the doors are open but may wait until the step rails I have on there now start to look dingy.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
I’ve seen some that look somewhat stock. I know that most out there look like straight up offroad rock sliders. I’m on the fence right now. Not as much out there for the tundra so I’ll just get what I can. I’m not a fan of chrome, so as long as I can get rid of that I’ll be happy.
@scottpomygalski6078

What type of shocks and suspension do you have in the truck. Are they the stock TRD OFF ROAD Bilsteins? How do you find they ride.
@OXFOOT
@OXFOOT Год назад
I think they are. They look like Bilstein the yellow and blue ones they had for the TRD offroad trim. They ride really smooth but on concrete roads I get a bit of bed bounce in the rear from the road bumps. Would like something a little stiffer in the rear.

I saw a mesquite brown one for sale with a smart cap and a lift and it was almost in my price range, I almost bought it. I like that color a lot. My favorite colors were tan, cement, and mesquite.
@nightfall22
@nightfall22 10 месяцев назад
@@OXFOOT love the tan and cement both! We have similar tastes. I’m most likely going to put a setpower pt45 in the backseat on the floor when I go camping. Curious how it will fit. I’m sure the 35 would be fine for me but I like to overshoot in size just in case I’m out more than a couple days and it’s literally like less than $40 more so I’d rather go bigger and not need it vs needing it and not having it 😂😅

Double cab in tan? I was about to fly out to Florida to get one and this one randomly popped up 45 minutes from me after months of looking. The rarest but best in my opinion is the double cab Army Green. I saw one pop up in my home state but they wanted way too much for it.
