And anyone thinking about getting this bike should just do it. - I never planned my purchase... but after 30+ years I suddenly wanted a new freestyle bike. - And since I'm old-school, I felt like I had a limited selection and I only looked at the newest PK. Rippers (racing) and GT Pro Performers (both of which I would have had to add many extras for freestyle) and they didn't even come close to this. WELL worth it - and I usually never make spontaneous decisions. This was the only true freestyle bike right out-of-the-box - brand new.

@@johnchernidc2016 I got some original '88 kneesavers from back in the day in black and chrome up in my parents loft (and sum regular 1990 chrome ones).I'm almost tempted to buy a master vintage frame just to get them little beauties back up and running. But I don't think I can justify it after recently spending well over £3000(bikes are double the price in the UK boo hoo) putting my 2 mid school projects together. And yet still the master is a bike I always dreamed of owning as a kid (I had to settle for a 1990 Haro Invert - a cut price master with a trimoly rear triangle). The Haro Master Vintage. It's not a bike. It's a work of art.

"Ey bro, I thought you may get a laugh out of this criticism. I initially made a comment about Haro Lineage being great since my bike-shop owner told me I SHOULD have just bought a "FIT" bike from him instead... so I criticized FIT bikes' video here in this link below because for the first 4.5 minutes nonstop, ALL they show is dudes wiping-out big-time, and as a PR-sales consultant I just mentioned how that THAT alone was a major turn off for me... so this was two of their replies... Maybe you can even understand them, since I don't... #1: tyler dobranski said - "fit bike will always be better than haro. not trying to start an arguement but fit has way better built bikes with better quality parts. Haro is just known more because they sell bikes at sportchek and canadian tire haha" - Then #2: Then Roc Noir replied - "Haro Lineage bikes come with pin seam rims, so much for quality." ---- I really don't even know what they mean... here's the link to their Horrible promo video where everyone crashed for the first 4.5 minutes non-stop, as IF THAT will want to make me buy one. It's basic advertising knowledge and obvious. One kid already deleted his comment. HARO is the Original, they look FAR better made and are and their team riders are also FAR better than this "FIT" bike... what a joke. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7LR4g3KCLlQ.html&lc=z23qt1v52uyyvnpbg04t1aokgj5xfw4rzvsgnmykvqy2rk0h00410.1536021304241511

I dont know much about the wheel construction either but it has something to do with the process of making the rim. Even if that process is lame I wouldnt call this particular bike or the whole Haro company junk. Haro has been around from early on and will probably be one of the last bmx companies standing in the future. They survived the bmx slump in the 90's and are still here strong today. They also have had and still have the best riders of today on their team. Chad Kerley took gold in the Xgames Bmx Park competition and their flatland rider Mathias Dandois is the best Flatland rider out there today and wins almost all the comps he enters. Just look at who they had riding for them dating back to the 80's. Mat Hoffman, Bryan Blyther, Dave Nourie, Dave Mirra, Ryan Nyquist, Rick Moliternos. Seems like haro still holds the chips today just like they did in the 80's and 90's! Most of these bikes today are made the same way from company to company but just have a diferent name stamped on them
@generationofbmx
@generationofbmx 6 лет назад
I have to be honest though. There was and is quality issues with the Lineage series bikes and parts. In 2016 the first wave of Flatland Masters frames had head tubes that were out of round, flaking chrome on the frames, and built in chain tensioners that werent correctly lined up. And most recently, the new Kneesaver handlebars were not square and evenly proportionate and the chrome flaked on the wheels. Many guys on the Museum were showing where John Boultgans was telling them to send the kneesaver bars back and he was sending a whole production run back to the company in Tawain. John has been doing what he can but its the manufacturers over seas that need to get it together.

No worries at all... I did a lot of research on this for hours today and most people seem to prefer what we have, Not welded rims/spokes... You can read all about it on the link I left above. Some kid was just trying to put down HARO and promote his FIT bike mostly since it is cheaper. It's a matter of preference and many, or most, actually prefer them to not be welded with no "give" in them... regardless, even IF a spoke became loose we can just tighten ours, they cannot, so... it's a very interesting read. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7LR4g3KCLlQ.html&lc=z23qt1v52uyyvnpbg04t1aokgj5xfw4rzvsgnmykvqy2rk0h00410.1536021304241511
@1AppleofEden

I'm Totally happy with mine... no issues at all now once I simply switched to Ghost pads... and since it's a 2018 they hopefully worked-out all of the bugs... just like that issue with the chrome peeling and them switching to alloys...and even IF there's any new serious issue, I'll just use my warranty and/or contact John Boultgans, so I'm not worried about it... - It's STILL a FAR better bmx/freestyle bike than any of the many, many, new bike companies are coming out with today in 2018 for a little less money. To me almost all of these new bikes all look the same and they're very boring, from the style of the frames to their color choices which are usually too dark for my old-school neon brain.
@1AppleofEden
@1AppleofEden 6 лет назад
It's also very worth noting that when some of these newer companies DO have a flaw, from what I've been hearing, the manufacturer is not at all always too interested in correcting the problem in the professional manner that John Boultgans of HARO is... and that alone shows great integrity and affords the consumer great security too. I forgot the exact companies, but a couple of people today claimed that their frames even ended up either slightly bent and one cracked in half entirely (!) and some rims were taco-oed within a few weeks, yet the customer was simply stuck with it and these were two popular brands of today. So it's also great to know that with HARO you truly get what you pay for and are even well taken care of. HARO has to take care of their loyal customers, after-all, they're a LEGEND.

I just got mine today and assembled - the same color, a Master 20 in./20.5 in. TT and it is SICK! --- *I agree that the tires seem a bit wide, but I haven't been riding or freestylin' at all for about 30 years so inevitably I'll need to become accustomed to this, like any bike. - *THIS is truly a SICK machine and worth every penny. It draws a crowd and people say it's more like a piece of jewelry that they wouldn't even ride, since it's so pretty, and would rather hang-it-on-the-wall like a piece of art or collectible but I bought mine to jump and grind! --- Buy one while they're still available - 100% SICK!

Nice. I've noticed you move backwards very well. I've always had difficulty riding backwards or rolling off a ramp jump back-end first... My last three bikes (about 30 years ago) were a Diamond Back Formula One (very light) then a P.K. Ripper, both I modified for freestyle, then a Skyway Streetbeat when they first came out, the frame & fork, then built it 100% custom. All three were stolen by so-called friends, who suddenly moved to another state just after I left my bikes at their house... bad luck. Then for many years I was at the national level in bodybuilding, so now I'm still the same height, just under 5'8, (lol) but I still weigh over 200 lbs. so this will take me a while to become reaccustomed to riding.
@generationofbmx

Dang, bodybuilding has been my passion for almost 30 years. I have always just been a lightweight though and always just done it natural. Bodybuilding is probably my first love. That and Bmx are really close. I can remember my obsession with muscles and Bmx as far back as I can remember. I was crazy about Incredible hulk back in the early 80's and the big kids riding up my street on Black and gold Bmx bikes. Ha ha. Also, my first real Bmx bike was a 1984 Diamondback Formula One. I still have it. Yeah thanks, rolling backwards is maybe my thing but i suck at forward rolling. That is my weakness. Ha
@1AppleofEden
@1AppleofEden 6 лет назад
Yes, I've always been 100% Natural for Life re; bodybuilding and powerlifting, just good genes, but after many, many years, I've learned that genetics just wasn't enough to actually "make money." - Everyone is on juice or HGH. I was always into breakdancing-popping and bmx/freestyle. Now I'm a personal trainer and have been for decades, but YES, these types of so-called "extreme-sports" all really do seem to go together very well... I'm also into skydiving, ice-climbing and BASE jumping... so, I figured I'd get back into freestyling since it's a bit safer than the former... plus I could use the cardio, etc. Hopefully I'll drop some weight and be more capable of my old flatground tricks once I lose some of this unnecessary muscle mass. ***And YES, the Incredible HULK T.v. show was my biggest inspiration as a kid also. A Bike really DOES need to become like a Third arm to truly feel comfortable enough for trick riding. I LOVE High adrenalin sports... I played many team sports, but I was never really into them, since ONE person can lose the game for everyone, so these so-called extreme sports are all far more individualized and when you win, you get all of the credit - even if it's just for fun. *And now I see on Ebay that a 100% Original Diamondback Formula One is going for $1,700. --- I wish I still had mine, although I NEVER liked the NECK... it ALWAYS moved no matter how tight it was so the handle-bars were always moving around... :) Ha! HA!

As for braking - I have this stuff called liquid chalk that bodybuilders and powerlifters use so it doesn't make a mess, especially in those new preppy gyms these days where chalk isn't even allowed. - So I made a solution. One part liquid chalk and two parts water, then I rubbed this onto my rims and pads and it truly makes the front and rear brakes Stop-on-a-dime - Every time. *Especially great for those that want their bikes to stop instantly, it even resolved my issue of using too much WD-40 since no matter what I did, it just didn't seem to all come off 100%. ---- I know you may not want your brakes to be too "grippy" but for those that do, this stuff works wonders... --- *** Just an observation of my personal experiences recently. --- R.A.D.

Great video and flatground tricks. * - I have this same exact model arriving tomorrow via Fedex. - **Question, are your rims true chromoly, before Bob Haro became disappointed with the chrome apparently "peeling",... or are your rims the newer revised 2018 lineage with the Satin finish alloy rims? - Which are yours (?)... and if they're the Original chromoly, have you noticed ANY peeling yet? Otherwise, do you notice any difference, IF yours are the satin-finish alloys? Are they just as shiny as actual chrome? Etc.? - --- Thank you, R.A.D. @generationofbmx
@generationofbmx 6 лет назад
For starters, Bob Haro is NOT with Haro Bikes any more. John Boultgans Has now run the show over there for many years. He is the guy that is doing all these retro bikes these days. Second, I dont think they are doing these in chrome finish anymore. Mine ARE the highly polished alloy that look just like chrome. The only problem I have with them is the brake pads DO NOT grip the polished rims well and you will need to get a different set of brake pads for front and back brakes. I purchased Odyssey Ghost Clear pads from Flatlandfuel.com and they grip and stop really well now. I would reccomend you get those. Actually I like these polished alloy wheels better than chrome because I wont have to ever worry about them peeling. Chrome wheels are just too risky to peel. Hope this info helps. Stay Rad!

@generationofbmx 6 лет назад
Yes, those are the ones. That warning is not for us because we dont have chrome rims. These wheels are highly polished alloy. No, these pads havent posed any problems for me except that they screech sometimes. Its kind of annoying but i will take it if it gives me better stopping. You could maybe try the black so to avoid the screeching noise but you may still get poor braking. I didnt wanna play around so i went with the soft sticky clear pads just to be sure i got good braking. Even now the bike doesnt stop on the dime but that can actually be a bad thing. If the bike stops too hard and quick it can mess up a trick. But, my bike stops much better now and the bad braking is no longer an issue. Ive heard of others complaining about the bad braking with this bike too because of the polished rims.

Does ANYONE know where I can get Comp IV tires (preferably brand new)? --- *These were the best tires that I've ever owned, you could take a very sharp corner with just a slight turn of the wrist. **Is anything comparable to these today? The tire forms a V-shape... Thanks.

I had a Diamondback Formula 1 when I was a kid. I always wanted a freestyle bike but never got one. 6 years ago at 37 years old I bought a 87 Master and tried to start learning tricks. Ive gotten a pretty decent trick list learned since. I got tired of old school bikes and decided to get new school bike a few years ago. Was stoked when Haro came out with these retros so i grabbed one. Still oearningbtricks and still riding now. Just put down a deposit on a 2019 Haro Master Bashguard which comes out in March. Cool

Sweet man. Stoked for you. May i make a suggestion? Youll need to grab some different brake pads because the ones that come with the brakes on the bike will NOT grab on your polished rims. I am assuming your Master will come with polished rims instead of chrome rims right? Mine and everyone else i talked to who have polished rims on their 2018 Master had to change out the brake pads. I would recommend a clear pad. I got Odyssey Ghost Clear pads and it solved my problem.

Thanks bro. I am humbled. But hey, its not too late. Go to Flatlandfuel, Albes, PlanetBmx, or AceBmx online stores. They still have these. You have to get one of these bikes. They are top notch. Or, you can also still get the 2017 Master Complete bike in Neon Yellow for a killer price now. Check it out!

Hey bro - a Minor problem now --- I used WD-40 but also upon my chain and rear hub, so... now... The WD-40 has gotten onto my rear rim and brake pads, so the back break is so greasy and won't stop at all now... so, I was thinking about wiping everything clean with a dry cloth, then using some watered-down DAWN dishwashing detergent to carefully clean off all of this WD-40... Do you think that would work … or can DAWN somehow ruin these satin-polished alloy rims? As you may know, DAWN really cuts oils and grease. Thank you, R.A.D.

Well, if it were me I think I would try Windex or some other kind of glass cleaner. I've always used that to clean/polish my bikes whether it was chrome, paint, or compact disc sprockets. Also used it to get grease off after I got it on my parts after packing headsets and bottom brackets. Never had any problem with it. If it doesnt work at first just give it some time. And, you can take some sand paper and grind your pads with it a little. Just for reference, I use vegetable oil on my chains. Btw, how are the Odyssey Ghost pads working for you?

Thanks, they def work far better than the original black pads which were already leaving black-steaks all over the rims, literally even after my first half mile cruise... and I don't want to screw-up these new Ghost pads already, so now my #1 goal is to remove the excess WD-40 that ended up getting on them... I sprayed a little too much on the chain and since the chain is so close to the back break pads it got all over them, so... now the back breaks don't even work at all... but I'll fix them up... I already tried tonight to clean-up the rims and pads with some diluted "DAWN" soap only since it really cuts through grease so well. It worked a little so far, so I'll try Windex tomorrow also. === Thanks again. - R.A.D.

Did you get the breaks cleared off? Hows the bike riding? Are you happy with it?
@1AppleofEden
@1AppleofEden 6 лет назад
Yes - Thanks - the ghost pads are definitely more "grippy" which I want... *The #1 issue that I've noticed is that the chain is so close to the rear brakes pads (being lower) that ANY amount of lubricant on my chain inevitably ends up getting onto the rear break pad or rear rim, which naturally becomes an issue. What also makes me feel this way is that even the original front break pads seem to stop-on-a-dime, so far... for me it's only the rear brake and even the rear break levers can't seem to be tighten-up like the front one, maybe due to the more complex gyro of the rear break, the rear break lever is just a bit loose and wiggly even through I've tried to tighten it. Did you notice this at all? --- *And HOW can you tell if we have the original rims or the newer alloys (?), unless it peels if it's chrome? Otherwise they look like chrome and everything else is 100% Perfect.

My guess is that you have the polished alloy rims like me because if you had chrome you would have never had any issue with poor braking. Your original pads would have stuck really well against the chrome rims. My rear brake lever seems to be rather tight although getting my gyro set so that it spun nicely without it clicking was a challenge.
