Jeff K if a diesel is made before 2007 it is exempt from emission testing and can roll as much coal as you want these modern diesel trucks and cars have so much emissions crap on them nothing comes out of the exhaust.

2.0 cdi 4 cylinders are average at the best and quite agricultural for such expensive cars , smaller 1.6 and 1.5 are not from Mercedes, Renault but very frugal and more refined but weak. 6 cylinder are epic, you cant know what you drive its just sounds like a smooth engine. V8 i drove only once and its pulls like a dog but its not really that frugal and its expensive to own.

I agree with what you said, Roman. I don't know how many times I've complained about how dirty I think our air is here in the US....... but then I travel outside the US to places where diesels are very popular. No matter how advanced you think they are, even if you visit Western Europe, old, smokey, choking diesels surround you. It's disgusting and very tiring. And really, even the newest diesels, even though you can't see the exhaust, they have a really funny, nauseating smell when the drive by. This is much, much less of a problem in the US.
@larry8065
@larry8065 7 лет назад
Try parts of Asia. You don't just smell it there. The air is so bad, your car is covered in soot every morning, your cloths always smell like smoke and your spit turns black when you walk down the street. You pretty much have to seal yourself up inside your home to get away from it. And what's more amazing, that's just the least of it.
@perpelle
@perpelle 7 лет назад
Your problem is instead the massive use of fossil fuel. I wonder how much co2 the US let's out per capita compared to europe.
@larry8065
@larry8065 7 лет назад
+pelleper Well, of course the U.S. will have more CO2 output per capita, but it also has much more economic output per capita than European does. And if we were to look at the ratio of CO2 output to economic output, the U.S. is probably cleaner.
@sic22l

US cities are much less condensed than in Europe. In China or many other Asian coutries air is much dirtier than in Europe and there are almost no diesel cars.
@Lamar-zx5tp
@Lamar-zx5tp 7 лет назад
+sic22l What you said about Asia isn't true. There maybe fewer diesel cars than in Europe, but there are still many diesels. Also, Europe is much wealthier and more advanced than Asia is in general. It's air should be leagues better, but it isn't. When I last visited, every other car left that poisonous diesel stench behind. Maybe you've gotten used to it, but I haven't. Trust me, it is bad.

just a little something I've noticed- why do some people refer to cars such as the Tiguan as just Tiguan? for example at a press conference you would hear a spokesperson say "well, Tiguan has got a new awd system..." instead of "The Tiguan has got a new awd system..." just curious if anyone knows

Europe is starting to push Gas Motors now .Explaining why Europe pushed Diesels motor is a long story but basically it easier to make and used less Oil . They sold the whole idea of CLEAN DIESEL basis on 100k per liter on the autobahn. Like i said it a ling story

Modern diesels (with DPF filters) produce much less particulates than direct-injected gasoline cars. More - gasoline particulates are smaller and therefore much more cancerogenic.

Not in Europe. Japanese cars are by far the most expensive to own here.
@perpelle
@perpelle 7 лет назад
Umm, where do you live? VW isn't famous for reliability nowadays. A toyota is the safest (and most boring) way to buy something economical.
@sic22l
@sic22l 7 лет назад
***** In Europe Toyota has nothing but fame about reliability. Even dealers agree with that statement (for people who already bought the car and are coming back with issues). My dad has a Toyota and he had number of issues with it, most of them were fixed during the warranty but more importantly - dealer wasn't surprised with any of them. Rust, brakes, CD player, power windows, transmission bearings etc. Everything including the scheduled maintenance is about 50% more expensive than in VW. Toyota, Nissan, and Subaru Mitsubishi (not to mention Lexus) have very expensive maintenance (it's not just oil change but full service). Honda has pretty expensive repairs but regular service is fairly priced (unlike their cars). VW is not so bad in terms of prices, if you're servicing your car regularily you can count on serious discounts if something breaks down, you can easily fix them in most independent workshops who knows them really well - VW uses the same components in many cars (VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat). Not to mention VWs are simply better - they drive better, they're faster, more ecnomical, they have much better interiors etc.
@perpelle
@perpelle 7 лет назад
Lexis is in the luxury segment, can't compare with that. Look at the MOT statistics, toyota is good, VW worse. VW is overpriced junk. Their component quality has gone down like hell. Everything from the quality on paint, bearings that fail prematurely (and VW is saying that 1 liter of motor oil per 1000km is ok = nothing wrong with it) and cam chains that brake on tsi/tfsi engines. Interior quality, driving experience, how fast they are etc has nothing to do with mechanical quality. VW buyers are like a sect. They still buy it when the quality goes down.
@sic22l
@sic22l 7 лет назад
***** Paint quality got worse for every manufacturer because EU banned lead paints. Mazda is the worst in that matter, they deliberately use thinner layer of paint to save weight and money. Actually VWs are one of a few cars that won't rust in a few years. About the oil consumption - that's what every manufacturer says. Including Toyota. timing chain issue was well known, VW replaced them on warranty. They don't use timing chains and problems are gone. "Interior quality, driving experience, how fast they are" are signs of more advanced engineering and they just make cars better, more pleasurable to use. Quality of all cars goes down. Toyota included especially in Europe. Nissans are rubbish thanks to unreliable Renault components. Yet people are still buying them.

You whine about not getting diesels here, yet you guys were critical of VW here and extremely cynical and the diesels chances in the USA again. So really you helped keep diesels out with your negativity. You have a lot of insincerity to speak as though you wished VW "made" diesels for the United States. Annoyingly, you had the car with you, spoke of more space but measured nothing. It still looks like a Golf on stilts and if there really is any more space in the back it was completely ignored by you. Some automotive reporting.

Ah! Price.... why is petrol so expensive in Europe? In some countries its the other way around...
@weedmastersr
@weedmastersr 7 лет назад
Because of the petrodollar and currency exchange rates. But it's not much cheaper than petrol. They're both extremely expensive. Most of the price you pay at the pump, more than half, is made up of taxes. The big advantage of diesel is that you get great mileage. With my Peugeot 306 station wagon, I was regularly averaging 47 mpg. That was a relatively big car with a big engine. Now I have a tiny 800cc gas engine city car and I can barely get 40.
@Schaneification
@Schaneification 7 лет назад
Diesel and Petrol cost about the same in Europe . Mostly the high price is Taxes . Diesel get a little better range per liter. But the Diesel motor cost around 1.000.00 to 2.000.00 more depending on size of the motor .So unless you do a lot driving , the Petrol motor is still cheaper and Most European do not do a lot long range driving . Oh and I do live in Europe . Live from Wien ---lol
@sic22l
@sic22l 7 лет назад
In the US gasoline is cheaper than diesel because of lower taxes.
@roki977
@roki977 7 лет назад
Small diesel engines are perfect for europe and US has a lot to learn to earn really good engines not this tdi crap. Starting from decent quality diesel fuel that US just dont have yet and that can make realy big difference , like no more that many broken turbos, even better millage and more power. Problem is those car drive for ages and only round 10-20% of all diesels are new engines that meet euro 6 standards and no smell or fumes out of those engines but older once are becoming a problem.
