Acceleration tests with & without Launch Control of the all-new 2017 / 2018 Volkswagen Polo GTI delivering 200 hp and 320 Nm of torque out of a 2.0 TSI (total weight: 1.355 kg). Wow, this Polo GTI really rockets from the block. We did several runs and a time of around 6 seconds always was the result once using LC. Fair enough we have to mention that this GTI ran on sticky tires and had the advantage of the immense grip of a racetrack. Still, we are impressed! Got mine a few weeks ago. Really love it. Super capable. Surprised to see mine runs around 2.3 bar of boost ... seems like a hell of alot! Also axle tramp is pretty bad in the wet, but am told a dogbone insert ($100) pretty much eliminates it. Awesome package!

The 2.3 bars of boost you saw are absolute manifold pressure, which includes ambient. Take off about 1 bar and you'll have what the car runs. Not to pop your bubble or anything, just wanted to let you know.

Exhaust sounds pretty good. Also the active info display gen 2 featured here is better than the Golf, easier to read red needles and clearer engine coolant temperature and fuel level, both difficult to read on the Golf 7.5 IMO

It's only red in sports mode(also less cluttered) other then that it's almost identical in every other mode(startup looks a bit better imho)

K03 Lader findest du schon seit fast 10 Jahren nicht mehr bei VW. Die 2.0 TSI Generation (Mit dem Ölstab links vom Motor) haben alle IHI-Turbolader. :))

Da haste Recht, der 1.8 streut gut 10 PS nach oben und das ist kein Einzelfall sondern die Regel. Zudem ist der 1.8'er leichter und fährt nicht auf Traktorfelgen.

Ah I see. I took the plunge and ordered a Polo GTI. I have no idea how the interior will be like, as there are no available "tester" GTI vehicles! Mini JCW is after all a BMW/JCW collab, and I think the premium quality of the BMW shines through eh?

Dr. John Dorian Oh is it so? I drove a 2008 regular Mini a while back ans found the retro interior playful and of a decent quality. It saddens me to know that the quality has dropped off! :( I have heard of some of the mechanical issues of the Mini, but i think every cutting edge, modern car have some of these problems

I already took the plunge and ordered one. Only concern is If it was stupid not to Go for the sport select chassis. I have it on my current polo 2017 GT But rarely uses it. Is the Sound in this video completely Stock?

Yes. 100% stock. Wait for our pure SOUND video within the next days. You've definitely made the right choice with the GTI, concerning the suspension I think it's also ok to go without.

I had to order mine also without sport select chassis as it is not availabe for GTI in Finland. Is the difference just the dampers?

The GTI in Holland is standard with both, so it is 15 mm lower with stiffer dampers AND you can switch the dampers extra stiff "on/off" with sport select. No DCC like Golf GTI :-(((.

Hey man. I own a Polo GT 2015 with sport select and have fun with it. I don't know whether to order the new 2018 POLO GTI with it or not. What do you guys think? Also if I order mine this week, the sales lady says it will arrive in MAy 2018. Is it also for you guys like this? Crazy waiting time in Denmark...I don't understand.

Sanket Matu Hi:-) I will get mine in march. I was told that over 150 cars have been sold in Denmark - just from the catalogue. Meaning people have bought the car without even seeing it. That is pretty crazy. Myself included. You dont Need the sport select dampers. The GTI comes with sport dampers and lowered as standart. Like you i have sport select dampers on my GT But rarely uses it

Naja, grundlegend schon ähnlich wie bei den anderen VAGs mit DSG, aber beim neuen Polo GTI wirklich gut interpretiert. Kernige Gangwechsel ich eher als Plob als als Pfurz bezeichnen würde und beim runterschauten brabbelt er schön tief und auch von weitem hörbar.

I have no idea. I saw on one of the GTI's during the presentation Conti SportContact 5 but these are pre production cars. We will have to wait to see which tire will be finally on the production car.

Exactly! With as extra the GTS Black and app 250 hp is simple done! Here for the old GTI already +54 hp. The new GTI has a DQ250 DSG which can easily handle 400Nm. For the chiptuning see www.racechip.de/shop/vw/polo-v-6r_6c-ab-2009/1-8-gti-1798ccm-192ps-141kw-320nm.html

I don't want to tune the original VW ECU and prefer a "breakout box" www.racechip.com/service-support/installation.html which I can remove when I want in an instant. I thought this must be a good solution because they sell to 135 countries all over the world, have 2.000 dealerships and 500.000 customers so it can't be rubbish!? Also 2 year warranty (max. EUR 10.000) on engine failures due to the box so they must be sure about their product. I like also the App, when I want to drive slowly with family from A to B I can change the map comfortably to efficiency on my smartphone www.racechip.com/chip-tuning/racechip-gts.html (GTS shown, the GTS Black has more power and warranty). Maybe a customer can give a response on his/her experience with the product?

These boxes never give you then same engine performance and smothness like a real ecu tune. When you go to a good tuner, you get a warranty for your engine and gearbox too. I drove a Golf 7R with the GTS-Black Racechip and it was not faster then a stock Golf R with a downpipe. The Golf R with a good ECU tune was another world. It was pulling hard over 270 all the time while the one with the Racechip struggled to get over 260. I also saw this live on a dyno on a Scirocco R, Racechip said 318hp and they tried everything to get over 305hp and just 408NM or so. The ECU tune made 32*hp and over 450NM then and the car felt much stronger through the whole powerband.

Raaatcher yes, the older gti/r models The previous engine was also called ea888 and was actually the 2nd gen The mk7 gti uses the 3rd gen ea888

There won't be no Ibiza Cupra for this generation. Google it. And they don't say the reasons, but it's very clear. If the Ibiza has to have a 2.0 TSI like this Polo, they won't sell any more Leon Cupras...

I think with this Polo GTI in Denmark, it makes more sense to buy this one instead of a Golf GTI. Yes the Golf is bigger and more comfy for motorway cruising. But in Denmark it costs A LOT more. To compare you can get a reasonable 2018 Polo GTI for 300,000 DKK (40,000 Euro) contra the Golf GTI 7.5 which is minimum 470,000 DKK (ca. 63,000 Euro).

The manual is available in June but this DQ250 DSG is very good so why take a manual, especially in traffic jams the ACC is automatic from 0 to 210 km/h :-))).

pauljansen2002 because it should be fun car to drive and driver who bought it in the first place is petrolhead and wants a manual gear shifter.Dsg is too much as a video game to drive and this car doesnt have 300+hp soo the auto gearbox isnt must for good performance.

You have a point Ivan, of course a manual transmission is more fun (but not quicker), you can shift gear with the flippers but maybe you don't like this, it's more a unnecessary gimmick in my eyes too. As I said, the problem in my country (Holland) is that we have massive traffic jams, the ACC (adaptive cruise control) works fantastic with DSG so when you have to stand in line for an hour this is a perfect solution in the traffic mess. I want to drive my car for a long time (my Scirocco GTX is 34 years old now!) and the traffic jams will not disappear in the future, it's only getting worse.

Im Prinzip ists mitlerweile ja auch ein Golf geworden ;) Mit dem Motor, größeren Rädern, Bremsen, DSG, Austattung etc. kommen da schon einige Kilos mehr zusammen als beim Basis 1Liter.

Stimmt genau, ein nacktes Auto "trocken" und mit DSG: Polo GTI 1.241 kg, Golf GTI 1.308 kg, Golf Performance 1.337 kg und Golf R 4Motion 1.427 kg. Captain Awesome but it has more torque than the older model. And the 2.0l is highly tunable. Imagine this little thing with 300hp!

I ordered mine November 3 and want a GTS Black www.racechip.com/ to get a SAFE 250 hp / 350 Nm or so but now I'm wondering if it is a good idea. Although the (wet) DQ250 is capable of 400 Nm I heard that the EA888 is not exactly the same as in the Golf GTI. Also the turbo is smaller so I'll wait a few months to see the offerings and warranties. Racechip claims this for the old 192 hp Polo GTI www.racechip.com/shop/vw/polo-v-6r_6c-from-2009/1-8-gti-1798ccm-192hp-141kw-320nm.html .

It's a pity. The predecessor (1.8 GTI) had a 7-speed DSG with shorter gear ratios.

Nur mal zum Vergleich :) Ford Fiesta 2018 ST: 1.5 l 200 Ps VW Polo GTI 2018: 2.0 l 200 Ps Irgendwie Traurig die PS bei der Literleistung für VW... Und jetzt kommt mir nicht bei Ford mit Downsizing u.s.w. Ich sage nur 1.0 im VW UP GTI....

EA888 des Heutigen Golf 7 GTI aber das "alte" 6 speed DQ250 DSG. Prima weil dat DQ250 verkraftet locker 400 Nm wo +50 PS chiptuning Kinderspiel ist :-))).

Das DQ250 verkraftet sogar über 500NM ohne Probleme sofern man die Getriebe-Software anpasst.

Du hast recht Revo's Garage, hier ist mein Händler (wohne in Holland) www.tvsengineering.nl/en/gearbox/dsg/dq250.html . Das DSG verkraftet sogar 600 PS und 650 Nm. Aber selbstverständlich wenn alles penibel justiert und angepaßt ist! Selbstverständlich kann Ich dort mein GTI auch Chiptunen lassen (sogar billiger als der Racechip GTS Black) aber sowie geschrieben, es ist nicht einfach rückgängig zu machen für mich als Kunde und Ich kann zum Beispiel keine Sparsame Maps anwählen. Das wichtigste für mich, das Original ECU bleibt sowie es ist! Ich habe keine Erfahrungen also vielleicht hast du recht aber Ich möchte nicht an einen neuen Auto herum basteln lassen, bekomme ab VW 4 Jahre Werksgarantie.

Philipp, Ich habe gerade gelesen das das EA888 wie im Golf GTI verbaut ist aber doch einige Teile "schwächer" ausgelegt sind, auch der Turbo ist kleiner. Ich warte auf mehr Details denn mein GTI kommt doch erst ende Februar, Anfang März.
