After Simone's fall on beam she says to the cameraman: "Can you back up?" because the camera was stuck in her face when she was upset. I wish more gymnasts would do that. And yet he didn't move! So Laurent, her dreamy coach, gets up and stands in front of the camera and so they had to cut away. That gave me chills for some reason. Like I know I'm just a little girl to you, but respect my space. And also Laurent= 😍 It happens here: 55:51
I was just watching a competition from 2013 where Madison Kocian injured her ankle and I noticed Laurent also stopped a cameraman from getting close to her. Poor Madison was crying and all the cameramen were all around her, so Laurent took her to another spot, but one cameraman didn't get the hint and still tried to follow her, thankfully Laurent saw him coming and told him to stop.
omg I love how gymnasts from different countries are so supportive of each other, shaking hands or hugging after every event. they just want everyone to do their best
When I had a kidney stone all I could do was lay in bed and cry. And that was with narcotic pain meds. Simone has a kidney stone and wins the World Championship All Around. That woman is as tough as diamonds.
She must have been taking pain medication. I'm a nurse and have seen people who really have kidney stones. They can't even walk so either she was using that as an excuse for her fall or she didn't have them at all.
@@randomvintagefilm273 They're drug tested so she couldn't have been taking any rx meds. And she was at the ER & diagnosed before the competition even started. The gymnasts routinely compete with injuries, so maybe she's used to pain & can compartmentalize it.
@@randomvintagefilm273 You being a nurse has absolutely nothing to do with this. It is called adrenaline and training. She completed without medication, because she can’t take narcotics if she is competing.
@@traywhite8788 Yess! I noticed that too! It's the little things like that which show who the great coaches that actually care for their athletes are😭🤍
Simone is amazing woman.Kidney stone are as painful as childbirth. She killed it with her courage it took to keep competing. Keep rocking the gymnastic world.
When I watched Simone sit down on the landing on vault, it was like watching Kim Zmeskal in '92 falling off the beam. My reaction was the same at the end of the rotation: "No! This is wrong. It's not supposed to be this way" 😮😔
Julia Lostetter it’s because she runs with the inside of her feet facing more outwards than normal, it’s something that ballerinas (and hikers) have a tendency to do.
The NBC commentators annoy the shit outta me. The entire time they just talk about how great Simone is. They point out every single little minor mistake in every gymnast's routine, and then simone makes a major mistake and they just make excuses for her. Yes, Simone is amazing, but these commentators are infatuated with her. She's all they talk about!! It's weird. Side note, love how Simone told the cameraman to move back, and when he didn't listen, Laurent just stepped right in front 😂
Yup i hate how after a routine they say that’s great routine but Simone can do 2 more twists to that or just talk about her during someone else’s routine.
@@kennagraham4075 When they literally compared Simone and Morgan's scores side-by-side, I was pissed. Like why doesn't anyone tell them not to be biased or have someone like Shannon Miller commentate instead. I LOVE Simone but they're so obsessed with her its almost creepy. Give the girl a break.
K. Im admitting it... I'm officially a HUGE Nina Derweal(SPL?) Fan... I haven't seen her do anything less than an out of this world bars routine every single time since I first saw her a few years ago! Way to represent a country I've got a bit of my genes from, Belgium 🇧🇪🎉🖤💛♥️🎊 amazing job ,Miss Nina!
These camera angles and swings and moves are weird. At least the lighting in this place is not that theater style, so dark with spotlights on the competitors.
I would love Nastua, Shawn and/or Shannon Miller or Laurie H to be the commentators for the women. Tim could still do the mens but it would be fun to have all female announcers for Womens AA
It’s sad- but a reflection on something. Today’s athletes won’t tolerate being treated like machines, like property. They won’t put up with being in such a savagely controlled environment. Once Romania comes up with a humanistic approach to training they will return to the sport strongly.
very biased indeed. Murakami had 0.3 more difficulty than Hurd, that's why scored higher. I see how the commentators only talk about execution and say they dont understand it... right... wasnt difficult to understand.
I think he meant the empty swing to change direction on the high bar. It doesn’t look the best and ideally you don’t want to see any empty swings in a routine
I can’t wait to see team USA 🇺🇸 at the synchronized swimming 🏊♀️ and gymnastics 🤸♀️ and swimming 🏊♀️ at the 2024 summer Olympics Games in Paris France 🇫🇷
This was one of the most disappointing AA finals in the last couple of years. I had forgotten about it so I went here to watch it again and kept fast forwarding to look for a stand out routine. There were only like 5.
I can’t wait to see team USA 🇺🇸 and other teams at the synchronized swimming and the gymnastics and swimming at the 2024 summer Olympics Games in Paris France 🇫🇷 in 2 months until the summer Olympics 2024 live from Paris France starting on (July 26th 2024-August 11th 2024
She turned around on the bar and scooted her hands to prepare for the dismount instead of doing a proper skill or full swing that puts her in position to dismount. This doesn’t count as a deduction as far as I know. It looks a little sloppy.
Idk about y'all but I was just so happy to see Japan get a medal. I wished Romania could have medaled too. She deserved it. If Simone wasn't there, it probably would have happened but....
I don't think I can even recall seeing Melnikova landing off ANY apparatus without at least one of those dang hops?! (Okay MAYBE she doesn't in ALL of her passes on floor- but on everything else- hop, Hop, HOP!!) She never even simply takes one or 2 STEPS- SHE HOPS! Just bounce, bounce, hop, hop... like how Tim described her vault landing was pretty dead on for what she always does: "kind of hopped all over the place there!" For real- she DOES hard stuff & can perform high difficulty skills, and she looks like she has cleaned a lot of it up over the last few years that used to look pretty sloppy& has really become much more of one of the top contenders- but dang, can SOMEONE get that girl a trampoline & tell her to go bounce on THAT thing for 30mins a day & get all that friggin HOPPING out of your system before coming back to perform your GYMNASTICS LANDINGS?! Cuz girl, you've SEriooouuusly just gotta knock off that hopping on ALL of your landings! She could score like a full point or more better overall if she quit HOPPING!! Gah it just a drives me crazy! If she quits that habit of hers, she will have a great chance of becoming one of Russia's next SUPER amazing gymnasts! Just stop bouncing all over, pleeeeaaase Angelina!!! You're hopping all over my sooouuulll!
And Mélanie always hops so much on vault and beam dismount and bar dismount. She does the same scoot every time rather than just land and take one step
@@nathanielhalls1893 I honestly don't feel like we even see that many "stuck landings" PERIOD anymore with how DIFFICULT everything is that everyone is doing... If SOMEONE can just start saving those .1-.3s by STICKING their landings all the time though- they're gonna creep up& start grabbing medals right out from under some of those scooters& hoppers noses lol
I often wonder if it had to do with previous injuries and a desire to protect her lower body. I know in Rio she was injured, and I’ve seen other athletes who compensated the same way.
I definitely understand what you're saying. They are, however, doing commentary for an American audience, not a world audience. That being said, I don't think most Americans actually feel they're so superior to other countries (I know I don't feel that way at ALL). He wasn't being serious, he was being funny. Maybe that doesn't come through very well on a world stage. Maybe it's an American thing. I can see how it could be misinterpreted as ego or superiority. I don't even care for the guy's style, but it was definitely a joke. Not a particularly funny one. I think we Americans come across as cocky to other countries. We definitely have our share of outspoken jackasses (ahem....Trump!), but we mean well. I think we're just lucky to be a relatively young country that hasn't seen as much woe as other countries. We're kind of like the youngest kid in a family whose older siblings had it tougher than them. I'm sorry it comes across as brash and crass sometimes.
Knock it off with the Simone Biles thing. She's far from perfect. She over powers too much and is given immunity for it when other gymnasts are not cut a break.
She isn't "cut a break" she just has enough in her difficulty score to make up for her mistakes. She gets the same deductions as any other gymnast would get but her form in the air is very clean and mostly you only see her off in landings from having too much power, mostly on floor and occasionally on vault. She has incredible difficulty and mostly clean form.
@@marybins5027 Some people do not get it. Simone Biles can fall off a beam, step out of bounds on floor and fall on her butt in the vault and still win because her degree of diffuculty is very high. None of the other gymnasts have that in their routines. Don't get me wrong, I can't even do a cartwheel and to me that is a risky thing far less for what all the gymnasts are doing. I admire all of them but my feeling is Simone does some thing, I cringe just looking at what she is doing in the air. If they want the same results as Simone, they must put more difficulty in their routines. Just my opinion.
Tina Huston - It’s probably going to be years before they knock it off w the Simone Biles thing, bc she is the biggest thing in WAG since Nadia. And, she does not get “cut a break” when she makes a mistake. She gets penalized just like the others. This is a US channel, they’re going to talk about Simone, and US competitors. There are other, different broadcasts to watch, I’m pretty sure.
