Watching this now, does anyone else notice how often they go to shots of Maggie Haney? They show her so much and not just when Riley is performing. Weird. They also showed her in the crowd a lot during the AA final, which makes zero sense as Riley was not competing.
I think they liked her fake lips and eyelashes. They thought she looked glamorous even though it's obviously all fake and there's very little there if you strip off the make-up. The other female coaches have been less glamorous.
Marta never permitted that kind of camaraderie between the USA girls and other teams was why. Now that the wicked witch is gone they can actually be human beings again.
I noticed at the beginning that they were showing clips of the US girls competing during what was probably qualifying, but the commentators didn't mention that. They just said the words "competition" and "day one", so for people who were confused or wondering, it was most likely clips from qualification.
Wow! At the very end, before Simone went on floor USA already had a score of 156.863 so far, and Russia was already finished with a score of 162.863. All the USA needed from Simone to beat Russia was a mere 6.001. That's how far ahead the US was!!! Of course, Simone earned much higher than that - a 14.766, and when all was said and done, the USA beat Russia by 8.766 points!!
i love morgan hurd. i really really hope she makes the Olympic team and does super well at the Olympics. i have 3 wishes for the Olympics, in order: 1) they are held next year and athletes are safe from covid; 2) simone competes there, 3) morgan competes and does well
Morgan is actually the only US gymnast that I don't like at the moment. I can't warm with her demeanor and she is so aggressive all the time and her performances have something of a child.
One thing I appreciate about Tim is he will always call out FIG for their rules changes and how strict they are. So many athletes this year deducted so harsh it’s insane
I don't know if it's because I haven't slept in 2 days due to watching the election results, but Melanie De Jesus Dos Santo's hands look ginormous! I never noticed that before. Is it sleep deprivation, or are they really, really long?
I can’t wait to see team USA 🇺🇸 and other teams at the synchronized swimming and swimming and gymnastics events at the 2024 summer Olympics Games in Paris France 🇫🇷
I know that at 1:04:50 that is Zhang Jin of China on the floor... but which other gymnast(s) have used that floor music before?? It sounds so familiar but I can't recall who used it and when!!
Ok I honestly DONT know a lot about this sport so maybe someone can answer this for me & help me out.... Looking at the list of past winners (~1:21:30) I see they don't hold world championships during Olympic years& I get that- cuz the OLYMPICS themselves ARE essentially the world championships (&then some!!!) But- How come they don't hold World Championship the year FOLLOWING the Olympic year, either??? (Exp. Nothing in 2005 following Athens in 2004, 2009 following Beijing in 2008, 2013 after London 2012, aaaannd then nada in 2017 after Rio 2016....) ??? I don't understand??? Am I missing something?! Help puhhh-lease & thank you!!!
Yes Biles is superhuman lol but Grace McCallum is just superhuman as well. Only 16 here and at such a high level after a very serious injury not long ago. I used to be hard on her not to be mean I just thought that Riley McCusker could just take her spot being a bit better. But I'm blown away by her. Even more so after learning in depth about McCallums major injury. I'm surprised she's still even competing at all. And then at this level. Just wow.
...Jade barbosa from Brazil is just super humanly GORGEOUS. if this whole gymnastics thing doesn't quite work out for her... Modeling maybe? And my girlfriend?!?!
I'm losing my shit over how DISGUSTING those German Leos are... I mean, the German flags colors can look STUNNING! RED BLACK AND GOLD?! (I'm mostly German too, so, this bugs me EXTRA!) AND what do they pick?! Leos that are mostly WHITE, with some black, then some day glow neon yellow and some weird ass neon reddish pink...? Wtf is UP with that, GERMANY?!?! Yuck...
I always got the vibe Tim does not like Nastia. He is always contradicting her, plus during her gymnastics days it seemed like his commentary was always skewed towards Shawn.
Ehhh I don’t know if he was skewed towards Shawn, but he definitely complimented her more than Elfi. Elfi was Nastia’s biggest champion and publicly said Nastia’s routines should score higher than Shawn’s lol. Tim to me defended Shawn but always had nothing but praise for Nastia! But I agree, I feel like those two are very very different
on 10/20/2023 Kara Eaker was forced to retire because of abuse at the hands of Tom Farden head coach of Utah Gymnastics. The abuse have left her broken to the point of suicide and self harm ideation. She is just one of many victims but the only Kara Eaker, world champion and olympic alternate but destroyed by a NCAA college program. Please share and repost.
They didn’t technically spell it wrong. There’s a problem spelling names in English when the language, Russian for example, doesn’t use English characters, they have their own characters. So when trying to spell Aliya in English from Russian could be pronounced as Aliia. And NBC doesn’t spell that stuff. All the channels do it. For example at 2015 worlds they spelled Kesenia as Keseniia and Victoria as Victoriia. I think I put the double i in the wrong spot though.
@@brodypenn the double i is correct - Victoria becomes Viktoriia when transliterated directly. It's because of the letter я, which sounds like "ya," but the transliteration into English........varies. Россия is obviously Russia, but translated directly it becomes Russiya/Russiia. Victoria should be Viktoria, but often comes out as Viktoriia or Viktoriya, and all of them are technically correct. The problem is that Aliya (a Tatar/Turkish/Arabic name) can become Aliia, which is unquestionably wrong because Turkish uses the Latin alphabet and writes the name as Aliye. (Ignore the e; Turkish takes a lot of Arabic and Hebrew names and replaces the a's with e's.) That was long. Languages are interesting.
I think he’s pointing out that it’s rare in elite gymnastics. Your body changes during pregnancy so it’s not normally possible to go back to competing on the world stage
Tbh it's probably because our bodies change so much after giving birth. Some women's abdominal muscles literally split in half, so her coming back so strong is really a big deal.
I wonder if gymnastics was like... Like horse racing, for example, I wonder what the richest billionaires of the other countries around the world would offer to buy her... Racehorses without HALF the dominance as Simone have sold for $50million bucks (granted this is because they are stallions too who even if they retire from racing at 4 or 5yrs old can continue reproducing at stud fees of a million bucks a pop well into their 20s so they will likely make even MORE BANK reproducing- but if we forget THAT little element & just focus on performances, lol) what would they offer to buy themselves a Simone?! $100,000,000?! $500,000,000?! A $$$ billion!? (I'm leaning towards a billion... Especially if they thought they could breed her, like a racehorse, lmfao)
