We have a fleet of these trucks with 5.7 Hemi engines, and they have been really good to us. We also bought Chevrolets and have had nothing but transmission and brake problems with them. The main problems we have had with the Rams are some recalls on computers and electronics. We do have some exhaust manifold cracks on our older high mileage trucks, but we beat these trucks to death. We have stayed away from Fords because of their oil leak issues and their aluminum bodies are more expensive to repair. I am not saying Ram trucks are the best thing on the market, but they have been really good to us. I have one with 170,000 miles on it, and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the US.
I have a 2022 Longhorn RAM with the Crew Cab, Ecodiesel, and all available options including air suspension and 3.92 gears. I love the truck, have had 0 issues (well, honestly, only 11K miles but my last 2014 RAM had 156K trouble free miles (Hemi) before someone T-boned me and totaled it. I LOVE RAM Trucks and, although I have owned all of the Big 3 and Toyota trucks, will only buy RAM, for their overall toughness, reliability, and REFINEMENT, especially on the interior. DON'T listen to what others may say that it's a Chrysler/FCA product and is therefore a piece of junk! They're wrong. The only people that say things like that are people that haven't owned one for period of time, in order to see how GREAT they really are. Buy Ram....you won't be disappointed!! I love the Ecodiesel too -- yes, you lose a second in 0-60 over the Hemi, but you gain so much more -- 40% greater fuel economy; 480 lb-ft of torque, so it FEELS GREAT, especially with a 3.92 rear gear; greater REFINEMENT; great sound; and 0 turbo lag. Plus it's extremely quiet most of the time but sounds great during acceleration and idle. And oh -- check the Delmonico Red Pearl Coat color. It's like a beautiful, burgundy color thar looks very "rich" and makes the truck stand out. One more word of advice: if you can, buy the new body style RAM- 2019 or later, not just for its looks. It's lighter by 400 lbs with more high strength steel, but yet it's 40% stiffer, SAFER, tows more, has better aerodynamics, hauls more, and gets better fuel economy overall model for model than pre-2019 RAM trucks. Plus i would highly recommend the 4 corner air suspension. It's nit that much, the ride is incredible, and it has AERO mode fir better fuel economy and TWO off road modes to raise the truck higher than normal. Ok, the advice is over, lol. Good luck and I KNOW that you'll enjoy your RAM, regardless of year, model, or engine. They're great trucks!
Had a 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi , serviced it every 5000 miles , at 79,000 mi the bearing went on the lifter number 3 , destroyed the camshaft, $3500 fix , wish I had known this is a common problem with Hemi
Had a 03 08 14 and 19 ran them all to 155k and sold them not the 19 got it now all hemis followed the book on upkeep worked the shit out of them no problems Repeat no problems But always bought the lower options because it’s the bells and whistles that always go
Its not the truck that is expensive its the options that you choose thats what makes it expensive the big horn is around 32,500$ msrp add 4-6 options the truck cost about 53,878$ which is the msrp of the longhorn. So you have to be careful with the options.
Some options are only available in the higher trim levels or you have to build one and wait several weeks. Honestly I will go high trim used, or purchase a truck outer state.
Ben your videos are very helpful. And if I were to buy one, I will buy the Limited. I just love the Chrome. I'm old school. Love that Chrome on The Limited And that 12in screen That's awesome.
Ben, This was helpful and definitely continue! One RU-vid video I've watched describes the Ram 1500 this way. The 5.7 Hemi is a good engine but the rest of the components around it as inferior particularly all the electrical components. I'd be interested to learn your thoughts on that and your opinion about the air conditioning. Somebody in a previous post mentioned it too. Would you agree that the a/c is weak or do you know if its been improved for 2020?
Hey @PaulD - I am on my second RAM truck and love them. I never had Amy issues with the A/C or any electrical issues. I had a 2014 Hemi 8 speed Crew Cab that I ran to 156K with 0 issues before it was totaled by a driver that T-boned me on the driver's side. I walked away with NO injuries but a little soreness. The truck gave its life to save mine! I then bought a 2022 RAM Longhorn Crew Cab Ecodiesel with all available options except the Off Road Equipment Group. It has 4x4 but I didn't want the off road tires, skid plates, etc. I had a Hemi in the past but got the Ecodiesel this time with the 3.92 gear AND LOVE IT. Yes, according to the magazine and YT videos, I lost @ a second 0-60. But I GAINED big time - 40% better fuel economy, great sound, and it FEELS GREAT with 480 lb-ft of torque. In 99% of most driving, you won't miss the Hemi. I am a dyed in the wool performance junkie and I don't miss the Hemi, although my other vehicle (that I rarely drive) is a 2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack with the 392 Hemi (485 HP, 475 lb-ft of torque). The Ram just has such REFINED drivability overall. Please, do yourself a favor and drive an Ecodiesel before you purchase a Ram. You'll be impressed and it DID get even more powerful, better running, and slightly more efficient after it was broken in around 10K miles. Yes, diesels take longer to break in than gas engines because they're so heavily built. Anyway, don't listen to naysayers about the Ram trucks.. They're great trucks, I don't sell them but buy them, and will continue to do so as long as they keep building them. Buy a Ram. You won't be disappointed.
When you say rear end you actually talking about the axle ratio like 3.92 VS 3.50 VS 3.25 stock Rear end make people thinking you are talking about the lift gate of a truck, it does have a multifunction liftgate option
Well I have two ford F150's a 2005 King Ranch. Never a day of trouble out of it. And I also have a 2015 XLT. Just got that one. Could you do the same thing with f150 trim and engines. Thank a lot enjoy your video.
Awesome videos man. With your expertise what do you think about a use 2019 limited, sunroof, 2 wheel drive, entertainment level 1 package (I think that’s the name), with 12-15k miles in the range of $42-47k?
Ben Hardy 4x4 got it. Do you think there’s more wiggle room in price negotiations? What would be your educated price point i should pay here in the states? This will be my first vehicle bought so I’m still a rookie even though I’ve watched all your videos lol.
Ben Hardy For a used vehicle? I’ve been seeing those used for $42,000- 47,000 (4x4 like what you recommended closer to the 47k) so you’re saying I have more to wiggle with on actual price out the door?
Soo, I'm here to learn about Ram. RU-vid decides erm, let's start the video with a Ford commercial. Then the second commercial is... Another word commercial
My father in laws old 2016 longhorn 2500 with air suspension had zero issues, but I heard some bad stories lol. His new 2019 2500 longhorn has regular coil suspension as he didn't care for the air suspension...
Just purchased a 2020 ram 1500 big horn V8 5.7L hemi w/etorque, gray w/the night edition package, equipment 2 package. It came with many options including heated seats & the 12" screen, auto mirrors, usb's & plugin's in the front & rear, etc. Love this truck so much! Paid 43k after rebates, financed 18k.
Great video. But you didn’t mention the front leak at the drivers door, rear glass leak or weak ac. Other than these I’m sold on a Limited Black Appearance, just don’t want to buy a headache. Nothing compares to the Ram, and I know every brand has issues, but those 3 seem constant, frequent and hard to repair, if at all, no ac fix at the moment. Have you experienced any of these on your old rebel or have you heard of it?
You really should recommend the LED Light Group on the Bighorn because I have this and it really makes the truck excellent driving at night and it adds to the resale !!!
I enjoyed from start to finish, this is the BEST covered 2019 Ram video with details bar none and kudos, no music which is most annoying on just about each video I have almost watched. Yes you should continue,in fact the manufacture should compensate you for doing a great job detailing their product.
I bought an 06 in December, cash money. As long as I get 5 years out of it I’m happy. It’s thirsty, but I don’t drive far to work. A new truck doesn’t make sense financially. Depreciation is horrible.
Bet you guys that bought a truck instead of a fuel efficient car are kicking yourselves now because of high gas prices. My neighbor said he's lucky to get 10 mpg. He said he bought it for the "cool" factor. 2020 Ram.
I love this video, not everybody can buy a new truck, but if we know where to look at if we buy a secondhand truch from a expert, thank you. Look forward to more videos like this
Nice video! Thanks, although i prefer the 3.21s. That 8 speed scoots off the line. Dont need optional gears like we used to. And i prefer the anti spin over the locking diff. I think if more people educated themselves on the difference, they would go with the anti spin. on road = anti spin off road = sure, locking diff instead. But the locking diff is actually an open diff 99% of the time.
What is your advice on negotiating the best deal on a custom factory ordered RAM truck for cash? The dealer will have no carrying costs (insurance, finance, etc.)
Critique: perhaps leave the picture of the truck up on screen when explaining each model; not that your bad looking, but no one really came here to watch you talk. Listen, yes - watch your mouth move, no.
Thanks good video. I have a couple specific questions still if anyone can help. 1 - I really like the E Torque option but want to know if it's reliable in 2019 and/or 2020 2 - with COVID is the 2020 a good value or to save should I still look at 2019's. Again, thanks and good vid!
I like these comparison videos, they are informative. If I have to compare manufacturers on my next vehicle purchuse, I won t be in the dark! Excellent! 👍
I am looking at trading in my 2019 longhorn for a 2020 with more features and to have their new apr and financing because of the virus. My 19 was in the shop for a water leak in the sliding rear window. I cant find any data about 2020's having this issue like the 19's did. Ben/anybody else, have heard about any problems with the 2020 models?
I have a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Offroad. My Wife and I really love this truck. It has the 12 inch screen and led pkg which really let's you see better. It has the 3:21 gears that gives me about 24 strictly Hwy. We pull a 6K travel trailer which it pulls with ease. Plenty of power. Gas mileage plumets of course to about 10 but it's a truck folks. Also I don't drive it to conserve fuel, especially pulling the trailer. I go! It's been drop dead reliable at 19000 miles with several Thousand mile trips under its belt. It is very impressive and I am well pleased.
I have 2019 Limited with water leaks in front and back of cab. Front leak was fixed by removing drivers side front fender and sealing weld seam in front of cab. It’s been back to dealer 5 times to fix rear window leak. Just got back from dealer and will see if it’s fixed when it rains again. If it’s not fixed it’s going bye bye. Water leaks have been a big issue for the 2019’s.
Every manufacturer has lemons but FCA excels in that department. Never again will I be suckered into their products. If they spent more money on fixing the problem then making commercials trying to be the "cool" and macho ride...not!!
Great content! I am looking at a '21 Limited when they come out (my first Ram), so this was very helpful. I did comment below about possibly adding better lighting if you continue to shoot indoors, but the content of this video is relevant and well done!!
Great video! I have a 2019 Limited with a 3.21 rear end. Can you explain why you believe the 3.92 is the better driving rear end? I understand the towing increase, but the quality of the drive confused me.
That was helpful, thanks! One suggestion would be to not sit quite so close to the camera. I watch a LOT of youtube videos every day and it is very off-putting when someone is just a little too close to the camera. Nice video though Ben! :-)
Also, not to be picky, but if you're going to shoot indoors, I would suggest some lighting. But I'm a video producer, so can be over critical. Great vid, though - keep them coming!
Almost every Ram 1500 sold with the V8 VVT MDS (with or with eTorque) is optioned with the 3:92 Axles ratio. All of the Ram 1500 V8 VVT MDS tested by the EPA for Pollution and Fuel Millage are equipped with the standard 3.21 Axles ratio. The 3.92 Axles increases the Max Trailer Load Rating, and does increase the acceleration rate, especially from a dead stop or low speed. The penalty for the 3.92 vs. the 3.23 ratio is approximately 10-20% More Fuel consumption, depending on the amount of City and Highway driving. These Axle Ratio differences are rarely ever mentioned in reviews or forums, where the poor fuel millage of the Ram is often mentioned. As for the other Rear Axle Options, the more expensive and “Low Speed Off Road Use Only” Driver Selected “Electronic Locking Axle” is the most popular. That is because the Anti Spin Option is Not Available with the 3.92 Axle. The less expensive and Automatic, Anti Spin Axle is a mechanical system that’s been around for over half a century. It is best suited for On Road and performs well Off Road. But it is no match Off Road for the traction provided by Electronic Locking. It also sometimes grumbles in slow tight turns, like parking maneuvers.
In My opinion The rebel Is Top Of The line Some Have a Bergandy Seat Color Way And better shocks And It's Just a Good Option If your now willing to spend 80k
Hi Ben, I am interested in ordering a New 2021 limited 1500 from the manufacture, but I don't know how to start the process nor who to trust to get the best price. Can you help me. Thank you.
Anybody have an issue with their AC in the 2020? I'm almost ready to hit FCA with a Lemon Law notice. Its been over two months , four parts later and still no solution
Ben , were you ever able to check out the "Canadian Trim", simply called the Sport? It's similar to a night edition, everything is blacked out. I traded in my 2011 Laramie for a 2019. I didn't think I'd ever like a vehicle as much as the Laramie, but I really like my Sport Crew cab 4 x 4. I bought one with just about every option available. Some of them I didn't learn about until watching RU-vid. It's only available with the 5.7 (Etorque is not an option). Leather is standard, as is the Alpine with the 8.4 touch screen (I didn't know about the Harman Kardon - that's on me, as well as the salesperson - they should all be as knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their product as you are). I like the 8.4 due to the Knobs that can be used without causing any distraction while driving. I don't have the air suspension, which is fine with me. I live in Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories (east of Alaska). The dealership here won't sell any trucks with the air suspension due to the havoc the extreme cold weather wreaks on them (-40 is the same in both Celsius and Fahranheit). Some of the options I have that I recommend: Power running boards, the 3:92 gear ratio for the towing capability that you touched on, 33 gallon fuel tank, trailer break as well as the class IV hitch receiver, the Sport hood and of course, the panoramic sunroof. I think the only things it may not have are the seat memory function and the reclining rear seat, which isn't a problem because I tend to do all my driving while seated in the driver's seat. So far, I have had zero issues. It was manufactured just a few months before I purchased it last June, so it wasn't one of the early builds that had a few recall notices. was MSRP was $56,000 US before dealer incentives. I paid a few thousand less than 50,000. Lastly, I don't use it very often, but I like having the CD player. Don't know why they deleted it for 2020 - as if there isn't enough storage already.
I’m looking at some 2019 holdovers and now he says there is a problem with the front end suspension? Maybe l will insist on a 2020. The Bighorn is just a bit light on luxuries so I’m thinking Laramie - it has a sharp interior and Level 1 adds a lot. The dealer seems to like to order black or white exteriors and a lot f black interiors which I believe looks like a cave.
I have been trying to assess the best option for comfort, towing capacity and safety options. Your video has been so helpful mainly because you explain everything clearly plus you are gorgeous.
I have a 2002 quad cab SLT with the 5.9 magnum. It was the first iteration of the new body style. I bought it in June of 2002 and it's still going strong. I undecorated it, put on rear wheel inserts, stainless full length running boards, over the rail rhino liner and a body match cap, running lights. I love it still after 18yrs. Turning 60 next year and am looking at the 2500 Cummins Longhorn. It will take me into my 70s.
I’m in the market and this def helped. I always like to compare what is the difference between models. And sometimes I don’t have time to read the descriptions on websites so they helps. If you want to improve def add more videos or images on the upgrades as you move up in trim. I’d like to see them in person. But overall enjoyed the video.
Was helpful to listen to. I'm considering a RAM in 2021. This is a good overview to understand the Trim levels and some of the primary options. It's much better than trying to understand this from the RAM website, which I did earlier today. The site is not as simple as it should/could be to attract (potential) beginning buyers. Thanks Ben.
