I just finished installing my running boards this weekend. Everything worked out great! Only difference was I used a $20 oscillating multitool from harbor freight instead of a hot knife. :)

This guy cheaped out for the cheap look...

Just took a set of the TAC nerf bars off my new 2023 XSE( 6 months old) I live in so cal and the bolts where already rusting, the bars themselves were filled with rusty water and the support bars were also showing signs of deterioration . Also, Plastic foot cushions/ stepping area was starting to oxidize too. Complete garbage!

Over $300 last year from Toyota with a discount through the Costco Auto Program.

The instructions that came in the box gave the web address and I followed it. No telling if yours would also have that! Try a Google search, maybe you'll get lucky. BTW, I think my instructions cover it pretty well, but that may just be my opinion. Basically, cut out the flat parts that are originally held in by the plastic plugs so that the mounting hardware can sit flat on the underside of the steel rocker panel. Pretty simple. Good Luck.

I just got 23 rav4 and installed EKR custom fit for rav4 on Amazon. They fit well.

Stick a ruler as far as it will go on top of the board, it's about 4 1/2" wide. Sight down the body contours and it sticks out about 1/2" past the door sides. I can comfortably step my size 10 wides on the step, though I'm tall enough that I don't use the step. My wife, however is less than 5' tall with about a size 5 shoe and it is very useful for her. They are still usable with the running boards in place. Uncovered. I thought I mentioned that in the video, but it has been a few years!

We bought it at the stealership where we live. The car design is so new that the only versions cheaper do not appear to be very good quality.

I have no idea. Most dealers charge a flat rate for labor from a list of time costs for the work. If they charge $200/hr for labor and the job is rated at .5 hr it would be $100. Some have minimum time charges. Asking the dealer is the best bet. Once, I had a job that they rated at 1 hr and it took them 4 hours and still charged for 1 hour. You never know, though. Good luck!

@@onlywithvic Hence the moniker "stealership"! If there's no one who you know who's handy enough and willing, I would suggest checking with smaller auto repair businesses. Handyman services MAY be able to help. If it isn't DIY, you'll probably have to go with the replacement parts instead of cutting. Good luck.

It's been a few years and the instructions for removing the rocker panel covers was pretty involved, in my opinion. I thought this would be simpler. Why don't you use the provided instructions and make a video yourself. You can then comment again and provide a link to your video and viewers can compare which seems better. Good luck with your project, if you plan to do this, that is.

Those modified rockers were more money when the vehicle was new four years ago. Plus, it's fun to try to save money when I can and this is invisible unless you lay on the ground and that's only near the rear jacking point if I remember correctly. I haven't seen the cuts since I installed the running boards, even when changing the oil. I fully agree that the aftermarket boards suck, especially when this was a new car. There was virtually nothing available of any good quality at that time.

Dosent matter how cheap $ they are, if you can make it happen and not have to store or throw perfectly good rockers away you did good 👍 custom modifications are a sport.

That's not what it's for, nor does it work in that way. You might want to look into side body molding. I installed some on my Honda CR-V, maybe they're available for the RAV4. Good luck.

@@stevemullens7937 that’s what I want them for. I have them on my truck and they have door paint on them all the time. Each ding they avoid saves me $125 at the paintless dent removal guy. The parking spaces here In California are very small.

But They do help smaller people climb into higher vehicles, which is what they are for!
