I get 5 gallon buckets from restaurants in my area. I use a drainage pan with a spout and just pour it in and leave it overnight and it all drains out beautifully and effortlessly. If you put up a craigslist or Facebook add somebody will take the full 5 gallon buckets for projects. I use it for exterior wood waterproofing in my yard. Keeps the ants and termites away and permanently waterproofs even plywood and wet weather.

Get a flex funnel to direct the oil from that crossbar, solid purchase

I use a small funnel right under the drain into the pan, works great no oil spill.

A plastic oil filter housing is probably the dumbest thing for the price of the truck
@winniedoesyoutube
@winniedoesyoutube 23 дня назад
I also believe it has to do with expansion of materials as the engine heat cycles, but I definitely agree

If this was my truck I'd put a fumoto valve on it. It would allow you to put a small piece of hose on the end and direct the oil flow past those bolts. You could even leave the piece of hose on it. It works good on my outback and it does not have this same issue.

I’ve since found that if I partially hold the plug with my hand (instead of fully removing it), I’m able to direct the oil flow and remove the bolts. I’ve considered the valve, but am irrationally afraid of it dumping the contents of the oil while it’s running haha!

I had no problem with the oil biting anything when it drained. That’s odd, right?
@winniedoesyoutube
@winniedoesyoutube 5 месяцев назад
I always drain the oil when it’s close to operating temp so it drains faster. More heat=more flow. If you drain when cold, it likely will not flow as fast or as far as

I never had a crush washer in the passed, is that something new?
@winniedoesyoutube
@winniedoesyoutube 5 месяцев назад
The drain plug will require either a crush washer or rubber type gasket on the bolt to seal. Either works fine.

Observation: to avoid the mess of oil to other parts of the vehicle, use a funnel.
@winniedoesyoutube
@winniedoesyoutube 3 месяца назад
For sure. Kind of hard to undo a bolt, hold a funnel, and fit under the truck though.

I have videos for everything on my RU-vid channel, feel free to take a look! I have not done trans fluid because it has a longer service interval and I’m not at that many miles yet. Will do once I get there.

Did you say in the video that you needed to remove a few parts to access the oil filter?
@winniedoesyoutube
@winniedoesyoutube 6 месяцев назад
No, you can directly access the oil filter cap (if you’re tall enough to reach it)!
@nowarkatirji6578

Thank you, right around 5:27 I could’ve swore I heard that and I noticed how hard it was to reach, so just needed to make sure.

If you break the oil filter housing, you would need to remove the intake manifold to replace it. I mentioned that in the video as a caution to not over tighten the plastic oil filter cap and break the housing. Removing the oil filter involved a 15/16 socket as pictured. If you don’t break anything, nothing else to remove lol

Not sure, this video applies to 5th gen rams with the 3.6 though. I believe yours would technically still be a fourth gen, can’t comment on what those specs would be.

@@williamantis7896 yeah, the “classic” is not a 5th gen so this video would not apply

Why making the filter a 1" socket.. nobody has a 1" socket 😮‍💨 thx to god I have a 3d printer 🗿
@winniedoesyoutube
@winniedoesyoutube 4 месяца назад
It is 15/16” standard socket, somewhat common in 1/2” drive socket sets!

I actually have two. One of them was in my plumbing kit and the other one I had with my Harley-Davidson tools😂 I think I used it on my front fork replacement upgrade couple years back..

15/16 is a spark plug socket; more common is the 13/16. The other socket size is 24mm deep socket. Most parts sores carry these sizes as individual sockets. Harbor Freight does sell them as individual sockets. The oil filter housing was manufactured as a metric part so the metric socket will fit the best.

just use brake cleaner for the oil mess.

Yup, works great, but ideally would have less mess to start with haha
