Great video dude..I subbed! But you need to tell folks that the VC in these MY17 to MY20 audis with virtual cockpit will lose Google Earth overlays in their maps come 2021. Bottom line: 2017-20s with VC will lose some of its coolness in a couple yrs. For more info visit the audi forums or ask your audi rep for complete details.
Thanks for the comment! Much love for the sub! Well in Canada the 2017/18 wont have GM, only the 2019s and up. They say for the 2019 A6 Touch response its a 4 year deal but no idea on what happens after that and what the cost will be for the infotainment package. These things always seem to work out, imagine the backlash if everyone looses it. It aint gonna happen, if they want to keep the brand on fire like it is now.
i do personally..but i think they are really jumping on the Tech gane and when the car is off, having buttons would seem a bit odd...but agree on usage for sure.
"gimmicky" is the future. This is how most tech eventually gets useful; by being theoretically potential... The older model was probably "gimmicky" to some hardcore analogue fanatic that hates digital stuff, right?
@@viperz22 it's not about age bracket, I'm 27 and would much prefer the old model. In my opinion analog dials on the AC and the joystick for controlling the rest of the interface beats touchscreen any day of the week while driving simply because it distracts you less. Also, call me old school but I much prefer real dials over digital ones simply because the contrast of those screens isn't that good. When it's turned on you can see the backlight and that's very 'immersion-breaking' as far as I'm concerned. That being said I definitely acknowledge the flexibility of having a screen instead of dials, but until there's a high-contrast display (like OLED that doesn't suffer from burn-in or a similar technology which offers infinite or very high contrast ratio) I probably won't be convinced. Also in my opinion Audi's virtual cockpit dials somehow look completely unrealistic or outdated, not sure which, but I personally don't like them. This new car has its perks though, I very much like small gear selector and the front end is simply monstrously beautiful. I'd pick the old A7 for the back end any day of the week though, those taillights look like something I'd like to have sex with. I admit I'm biased as all hell in their favour, I was struck the first time I saw a 2011 A7 and the facelift is even better. Anyway, to each their own. Just pointing out that not all of us younger dudes prefer all-digital, I think some things like the AC controls should be analog.
I prefer the 2018 Audi but if I had to pick I would pick a older year preferably 2014-2015. I also prefer the more round look at the front compared to the new model
I have watched 100's of car reviews as I like cars, but I must say this guy is interesting and knows about the tech. Brilliant! Congrats! Kind regards, Jan
Audi is killing it with their new model line up. I obviously still love previous generation cars as my dream is still the 2014-2018 rs6. Will always love Audi
2019 A7 if I am stuck in the car waiting for my girlfriend. 2018 S7 if I am with a buddy, driving alone on hilly roads, going to the store, going out for a sunday drive, going to the racetrack, going to visit my APR dealer, going to floor it.
Great review! I subscribed after reading through the comments, I see how you respond to your viewers and I like that a lot. There is a connection between you and the people you made these contents for. You did a great job on that review and I look forward to more.
Thank you very much for the kind words, i really feel the comments are the best part for me and thats what makes it really exciting, because of the quality of the feedback (for the most part lol!) I have to more VS review, i just uploaded my RS3 review. i really try and focus on videography over going over basic features. I am really trying to figure out a proper structure of the videos without copying others...difficult!
2018 is definitely a bit smoother and more understated, while the 2019 is aggressive, modern, and sporty looking. the new MMI in the 2019 seems very snappy and quick too
Does it ever! i would like to see the car in a bunch of different colors to see what the best color is! Thanks for watching, going to do a video a week, if you enjoyed..please sub!
My father's new A5 45 TFSI Quattro also have some interior problem about the seat belt, don't know why they said they fixed it but I can always hear some annoying noise.
Great car! Do you think it is a good choice for someone that has approximately 1 year of driving experience and want to buy a supercar? It is my case. I am planning to buy this car. As I am seeing it has a lot of sensors that help in traffic etc. What is your opinion?
The 'old' A7 has way more style in my opinion. Especially interior wise. And I think, unless you're a tech geek, the new A7/A8 has way too much tech. The touchscreens will always reflect a much cheaper look than durable, well engineered, nice to touch physical buttons.
Thanks Adam, hard to be funny, serious, professional and a car enthusiast at the same time! Glad you liked it! i have a couple others coming! Subscribe!
I've got a virtual cockpit in my A4 and the fuel and temperature gauge have a curve which looks way better than the straight ones in newer cars. Why did they changed it?
I love this review as this is my exact Dilemma I am facing... mine even has a 3rd component 1. 2016 A7 prestige/black optics ( keep it) 2. 2019 A7 prestige ( buy this one) 3. 2018 S7 Prestige ( buy this one) So I I’ve been invited to see the new vehicle next month when it arrives here in Florida. I’m also a IT but that’s a lot of Tech For a car... ( more distraction) can the new controls still be changed on the steering wheel like u can now, (radio, date, time, Sirius, etc) Thanks for the review
Hi Jacob, I’m glad you liked the review. I never know what to expect when I do these videos but so far the feedback has been great so I guess I’m doing something right. As for your question, yes, it’s exactly the same you can move stuff around and adjust displays etc on the virtual cockpit, but to be honest that part isn’t the hard part as even though the cluster is nice on the new one.. it’s the center touch pad, the nav is just so intelligent! And the reading of the news and sports is sick. Will I get bored of it in 3 months, probably not. So that’s the “problem” the new one presents. The s7 is sweet on so many levels but exterior it does look a bit dated, as the new one looks futuristic. Inside though, it’s provides everything you are used to in today’s world. In 2-3 years... not sure.. So I guess you could get the new one now and then trade in your 2016 a6 in a few years for a 2017 s7, that has a bit of miles on it. Hard choices man! Good luck! Don’t forget to subscribe! And thanks for watching! Makes it all worthwhile for me
Mike Audi Sport thanks.. well the S7 I’m looking as is white with the Red interior. With the diamond stitching , I don’t like that the new Car doesn’t have a Black optics pkg nor upgraded seating like was avail in the 18’ A7... seats are also a big feature but these are are bit plain.. no diamond stitching or upgrade option avail?
Well.... I test drove the 2019 A7, looks great.. BUT I just purchased a 2018 S7 Prestige. White with the Red interior and Carbon inlays, will have it in 2-3 days.
I hate touchscreens. I'd rather have a circular knob to control nav and radio hvac. With a knob you don't have to lift your hand from your natural rest position. Also with touchscreen you have to focus on punching in the exact area on the touchscreen. So it requires alot more attention and focus rather than using a knob. Also you get all that fingerprints on the screen. Don't get me wrong the 2019 is beautiful inside. Better than the 2018. Is there an option on the 2019 to use a controller knob instead of the touchscreen?
im trying to get into an S7 when i return to the states...most likely a 2014 as ive seen a few low mileage examples near me...anyone have experience with them? I know the oil screen for the turbos was an issiue but if that recall has been done are they pretty ok cars? Coming from a guy whos first car was a Jaguar X Type lmao
Overall this is another improved great video. I don’t think you ever mentioned the difference in the engines, specs, horsepower, specific performance data which is the single most important factor for why someone might choose the S7. With the massage seats in the A7 does it come equipped with cooled as well. My 18 S4 makes you choose between the two & I hate that. Being that the 19 A7 is now turbo, I’m choosing it as with a simple tune through APR, I’d have all the performance I’d ever need. The 18 S7 looks too dated in the interior for me.
Hi Quincy, thanks for watching. The 2019 displays and tech are on a whole new level that even the updated A4/A5/Q5/Q7 with virtual cockpit even looks a bit dated. Yes, Glad the 2019 A7 is avail in a turbo, and with the 48V it that adds about 40LBS on Tq, it has enough power to suit the everyday driver. I only had the A7 for one hour so was trying to cram in as much as i could in one take. yes, on the seats..the massage and vent seats are rotated in the C/D segments (A6/7/8/Q7), the S4/S5 seats come with massaging Lumbar (love it as im sure you know). I much prefer no perforations and massagning lumbar. I love the S4's, love that engine! Thanks for contributing!
It looks like the 2018 A7 have the same dashboard as the 2019 ? I am watching this video because I am going to pick the S7 2018 tomorrow for few days to see if I like it replacing it with 2014 750LI sport, so thank you for the review it helps me a lot I wasn’t sure about the dashboard and was wondering if the dealership was confused and trying to sale me a 2017 S7,, also drone what I understand the the next time they’ll have an S7 will be 2020, ? Any one knows?
Hi David, im glad the review helped out to give you an idea of what is what. The 2018 Dash is the current body style is consitent with the 2012 body. Its the 2019 that are completely different. The new 2019 S7 will be out end of summer next year. Hope that helps and welcome to Audi (possibly)
My opinion: a7. If looked at the side profile resembles Jaguar XJ with the sloping trunk lines.. also the a7’s grill is widened so it cosmetically looks wider.. I prefer the 2019 headlights on the a7. The front (a7) looks fresher then the over exaggerated 2019 model. Interior on the 2019 is head and shoulder a great upgrade.
To be honest , I reached a point where the inside technology doesn't impress me that much . As long as I have a minimum required (nice navy system and Bluetooth connection) I don't really care about anything else . My eyes needs to be on the road . That's being said I would totally choose the s7 vs a7 since the performance gap it is HUGE . ( I actually had them both , a 2012 a7 and 2013 s6)
Had a 2008 MT V8 S5, sold after 7 years for freakingly stupid high taxes in Italy, now I have a 2014 sline A7 tdi and the looks of mine and 2018 is by far better than newer ones. It looks audi, looks smooth and understated, elegant, aggressive...the last one is full of useless exterior appendix, lines, cuts and looks like a very big korean car, mixed with ford ad jag, all a mess, lost it's identity while mines a classic, never gets old. The tech ok it's fun and wow for the first week you have it, and to show off with people and friends, but doesn't add anything crucial that the older lacks. I have sat nav, bose sound, phone streaming, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, full led matrix headlights with cornering and auto high beam assist, night vision, hud, all adjustable electric seats with memory for driver and passenger...plus, real instruments and not fake on screen, that for me is gold...plus I have the last 250hp diesel and already euro 6, then they produced 218 (low) and 272 or 313hp biturbo that pay extra taxes here, just like the s5, so a big no for me.
I love tech but I’m also from Detroit... German V8 Quattro, I simply would have to own one of each. I still think the flip screen is awesome. Definitely would feel like Captain Kirk in the 2019! Wow!
That is Daytona Grey! There is a new grey call Vesuvious Grey but its almost black with a ton of metallic, then there is Typhoon grey but i havent seen that in person as yet!
Wooaat...you get windows startup sounds when getting inside the 2019 A7! lolz Completely surprised me thought windows xp was starting up in the background of my computer or something haha
I feel like from 2008-2018 Audi tech is kinda the same at the start it was futuristic but near the end it felt dated. Audi stepped it up and feels futuristic again with the newest generation. I just hope they don't keep the same tech for 10 years again.
I love the tech in newer Audis (and most other cars: idrive; Comand, etc) but I won't own any of them without a Dealership Warranty! Notice I stressed Dealership, since a lot of 3rd party warranty will run from coverage for these electronics....your milage may vary!
Ya man, i hear that. I dont even want to know the cost on if there is a major tech issue....or loss of speed of the screens reaction. Its an unchartered territory for manufacturers.. so it will be interesting. lets ask the guys with the 2012's Lexus RX HYbrids are doing now, and what the battery costs are.. tech is expensive to fix.. so i think it will be cheaper than the battery cost that Lexus is facing. Good times! Progess doesnt come easy.. or cheap!
The S7 all day long.... the S7 is definitely more engaging it's more of a driver's car which is why you buy a car in the first place. The A7 you basically driving a laptop with four wheels who wants that. When you get in your car and drive its to escape the grind of daily life you get away from the office you get away from your phone you unplug you drive and enjoy the time away from being plugged in. You don't go and consume Yourself by being plugged in even more
the problem with my A7 is is hat when it rains and I'm at tummies drive through a gallon of water pours right in from the roof of the car into the car and i always had to carry a rag to wipe it down..maybe they forgot to do the water test :( and its hard to park the car due to the visibility of the front of it.. other than that its great
Well the normal A doesn't lack power at all. If you go with tfsi or tdi engines with let's say 250 to 320hp ...the car flies I can tell yoi that you'll never ask for more or feel like it's underpowered. Mines a 250hp diesel and goes really fast even stock, when I'll map it, we're going to talk about 310 to 360hp (if yoi keep o remove dpf) and something around 670/700 Nm of torque....0-60 in 5 to 5.5 seconds and top speed of around 280/290 kph.
Help. How many times will I watch this video. I need an intervention. Saving my pennies for when the lease returns come in. Will build mine and begin searching in about 3 years. Hopefully the politicians won't crush my dreams.
Hey Robert, who knows what the future will hold? I think that we’re still competing for each other for money, so as long as your a pro in your industry you will have one in 3 years. The tech in the vehicle is insane! Thanks for watching! Much appreciated and don’t forget to sub!
So I work for Audi at a dealership... Seeing the A7 in person was very dissapointing. It's a beautiful car, don't get me wrong and it's amazing to drive but those Driver's Assistance package sensors in the front grill really tilt the shit out of me! And for the price you're paying for an A7, you are going to want driver's assist (Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control). Idk what to think
