Useful comments, thanks. Got the same new Alpha in shed awaiting snow. True about the Doo’s weird behavior but hopefully fixed with the new geometry this winter. Look forward to more vids from ya.

Hey, both of you made great reviews on this sled. I picked one up yesterday! (last years model, brand new)

Got the same MountainCat 2020 as you, and would give it about the same review! Very pleased with it. Really easy backcountry sled too ride.. But I did notice some black smoke in the breakin periode but it doesnt use much oil like you said. The new ctec engine is a big upgrade from the 2018 hardcore that I used to own, with the suzuki engine.

250 miles and I just grazed a stump going very slow and busted off the brake cover that hangs low beside the front of the track. Lucky wasn't on chain case side. BUY SKID PLATE ASAP.

check the vent hose for the fuel tank for a kink, it could have been plugged with ice, or the check valve is screwed up. the end of it should be down on the left stirrup Because of EPA bullshit there is no longer just a regular vent for the tank. It has to have a special valve that lets air in, but won't let any air/vapor out unless the tank is over pressurized (around 5 psi IIRC)

I got same sled and bogging I had from throttle safety switch, disconnected and no more problem since then.

Funny his two biggest problems were a knot and the tail flap. Good problems to have.

I would agree with everything you stated. However my '19 154 after 1600kms my track is starting to fall apart. Right where the track flexes the lugs are splitting from the tip to base. I have at least 15 lugs split and now a couple starting to chunk off. only other issue is i broke a ski where it the bolt attaches it to the spindle. However cat did warranty my ski! And also cat replaced my rail after last season due to where the rear suspension connects to the rail, the mount became loose on the rail. again no issue no questions asked they warrantied it. So other then the track cat has fixed any of my issues, Too bad because I like the sled otherwise and a new track is pricey AF! $$ Nice review thanks!

To be fair 1500 to 2000 miles is pretty decent for a 3 inch lug track, I have had ski doos and arctic cats track show wear after 1500 miles. Especially on sleds I rod early and late season. Probably one of the reasons Polaris holds on to that amazing 2.5 track is because of the wear.
@renegaderiders9289

Either way tracks are expensive and better track life would always be appreciated, either way I like the arctic cats this year, but after riding some other models this year. You cant go wrong with any brand.

@@renegaderiders9289 1600 Kilometers up here in Canada haha thats like 994 miles. Also i didn't get a chance to abuse it early season as my sled didn't even show up until December 20 last season. Just sharing my experience as well as other alphas I've seen. Almost every Alpha at hay days that was used last season had splitting lugs. Its something that I think arctic cat could fix with a couple tweaks to the paddle placement.

Oh kms I didn't read that properly, yeah less than 1000 miles is unusual wear, hopefully cat addresses it.

Any recommendations on different covers to try? I tied a new knot on my 19 first thing. I'd look at your airbox. O noticed after riding and thawing sled in shop, then taking hood off, water was running out of airbox, alot of it. The seams where the airbox is put together is not good there was a lot of gaps. You can stick a flash inside there and see the light coming out. I took it apart and sealed all seams with silicone sealant. Not sure if that would cause your bogging but snow and water isn't good for the engine and I'm surprised more don't go down because of it
@diamondranch44

greg mulfort I agree 100% I had this issue a lot with my 16. The air box should connect to the hood on the top of the air box instead of the front. That way it is somewhat protected from the elements. I love the lay down motor design but they need to do a better job sealing of the air intake system. But it is arctic Cat... fit and finish never been there strong suit.

How did you like the 165 would you do a 154 in the future or stick with the 165? Also how well does the 165 get up on its tail for Wheelie and such?
@renegaderiders9289
@renegaderiders9289 4 года назад
154 has better track speed and is by far more maneuverable, but the 165 has shear get out of the hole flotation. Either one is great choice. Me personally I think I'm going to put a 165 track and skid on my 154.

The bog could have been from snow getting packed in the exhaust too I’ve had that happen before but who know what it was🤷🏻‍♂️

The Alpha skid is the real deal. Thousands out there and no real proof of failure. Any skid breaks. Single beam is the boss. Polaris and Doo would copy it if there wasn't a patent.
@renegaderiders9289
@renegaderiders9289 4 года назад
The t motion was a good concept but I haven't seen it be as effective yet, Polaris is just making cake off dead nuts reliability and repeatability. All 2020 sleds this year are awesome but I still chose the alpha just because it spoke to me as cat finally getting serious about being competitive again. And so far no regrets, it's just like all the other cats I've owned.

@@renegaderiders9289 They are all good.... I would say that there are no weak or trouble some skid frames out there from any manufacturer. My next purchase will be an Alpha no doubt. I think it's genius.

@@renegaderiders9289 cat has almost always been the innovator, but they were always about trail and snocross. When they decided to go big with deep powder too it makes sense they came up with something revolutionary and good for them. I hope they do great with the chassis while it's still theirs so we can see what they'll drop on the competition next time.
