Good video. Welcome to my world. Cartridge filter on the Ram Ecodiesels. Just changed mine this afternoon. Whatever happened to just using canister filters? I don't understand why the switch to this system. Anyway, at least you all get a socket end on the fuel filter cap. The 3L diesel just has a cap with 4 points of plastic sticking out. I mean WTH engineers? Who thought that made sense? Anyway, I've gotten it off three times and replaced it with a genuine imported FCA filter rather than pay dealership $379 to change it. Got a hint for you DIY at home guys when you are upside down on the ground and are facing a pint of diesel in the face. Take a 1 gallon zip-loc bag and just before it starts to leak, put it over it and then spin off the rest of the way. Saves a bit of mess but does cost a bag.

Thanks for the information on the priming procedure. I didn't worry about it in the last generation with the CP3 pump, but I do worry about having a proper prime for the new trucks with the CP4. Very helpful
@repairvehicle
@repairvehicle 4 года назад
If you use fuel additives to help diesel fuel meet standards for lubricity, you wouldn't have to worry about cp4.
@MotorCityMechanic
@MotorCityMechanic 4 года назад
The lift pump didnt run that long on the older models but glad to see it does now. Yeah will have to see how the cp4 holds up.
@walterk1221
@walterk1221 3 года назад
I think proper priming is the key to avoiding problems with CP4 as well as CP3. Both rely on fuel for lubrication. Another thing to never ever even consider is adding ATF to the fuel system. Back in the Detroit Diesel -71-series engines, ATF was frequently used to pre-fill fuel filters but with the close machining tolerance in modern fuel systems it is death to injectors. To give an idea as to how precisely injector components are machined, I saw a demonstration where the pintle was removed from the injector body, a mark was made on the pintle with a Sharpie and the pintle would no longer slide into the injector body until the Sharpie mark was cleaned off.

If you leave the drain open as you break the seal air will get in and allow the drain to bleed off the rest of the fuel preventing the big spill everyone has. Did mine yesterday not a drop on my hands or drive shaft.

The (5th Gen) Dodge Ram Big Horn 2021 6.7 Cummins Manual says to change the fuel filters every 12 months or 6000 miles. I think that just depends on the quality of Diesel fuel you normally use. Some Bio Diesel are different than others. What's your take on fuel Quality? Also can you do a video on a Genos Garage Front Fuel Filter Metallic Cap. Thanks David

I had a 12 3500 and the front filter (only one in this model) was always dirty when routine maintenance came around. Now I have the same 19 2500 as in the video. I did both filters when the light came on (7,500) but noticed only the rear filter was really dirty, the front one was still white like new. Do you think it would be ok to switch the rear one every time the light comes on and the front one every other change?
