I do like the look of the new AM line but they've lost their majestic charm a bit for me. Particularly the interior. And the MB infotainment annoys me (as does the engine, even though it's a peach)
Maybe you should actually sit in and drive the car, my demo car was a beautiful leather on every surface and touch point...rather than talking nonsense
I miss the old design, everybody knew it was an Aston (thanks to it's consistency and James Bond) and nobody could say a thing about it. It was the only sportscar that everybody loved on the streets.
agree, the previous gen designs were SO good looking, it was always going to be hard to top them, but those front lights look like an MX-5 or Tesla or something. I also preferred the sound of the old 380hp V8 over this rather unrefined AMG unit, though clearly the performance is in a different league.
Jaguar F-Type V8 SVR is superior. I tested the Vantage for a day but I bought the SVR. No comparison. Superior looks, more power, intelligent AWD. The modern day successor to the ultimate beautiful sportscar, the E-Type!
Loved your review so much I took the plunge and bought a new Vantage to replace my 911 991.2 Turbo. I’ve not regretted it one bit. The Vantage is epic and ticks boxes the 911 couldn’t. Thank you for the quality of your content and the in depth real world reviews. A channel all enthusiasts need to follow.
How is it as 10 months have passed by? I'm still considering to switch. What are the boxes what the 911 couldn't tick? How would you compare the two? Thx.
@@nicholashansen1477 not really, the 911 is plain and boring but it is good. The new vantage takes more risks making it a more exciting car to look at and drive. I’ve briefly owned a 992 911 gts and a new vantage. Got to say the vantage is more fun to drive and own, it is actually an extremely good car.
@@ferdiegillon5919 Lmao, how is having a traditional layout with the engine and gearbox up front (both sourced from another company, along with the infotainment) and a car that barely is distinguishable from an F-type Jag (which is less than half the price) defined as taking more risk? Astons have literally never been edgy or risky, they are anything but. The 911 has never been matched or replicated, there is no substitute, everything about it is unique. I fail to see how the hideous interior and lack of a manual on the Aston as being more exciting as well. the 911 is objectively better in every way. I like Astons but come on.
Such a dissapoinment this car is... The previous generations looks so much better, and what the hell is going on on the inside? What were they drinking?
skycrap unfortunately, I have to agree...the front looks kinda generic, the back on the other hand is pretty sexy...but then, I’ve always been an ass man 🤘 but the interior looks like it’s from a 10 year old Merc.
I drove this car on track a few days ago, the throttle response is unbelievable (even in sport mode). Also the design looks much nicer in person than on video, it's got a muscular stance, looks great.
@@nickchatburn trying to convince people your opinion is factual and better than someone else's doesnt do anything but make you look like an idiot. 🤷🏾♂️
My only real complaint is the steering wheel. They could have implemented a more sophisticated design instead of the big round flat face. I would definitely get one without the poorly done red interior accents as well. Otherwise, sweet ride.
What a gorgeous car. Although I think they could have improved the interior a tad to match the stunning exterior, I love this car. The Benz 4.0L with that exhaust just sounds lovely.
@@aday2594 ikr i have the aston vantage, not the roadster but for a v8 its great, i also like the fact that it is front engined so its better rear grip. And its one of the best looking modern astons
These have really grown on me, and this one looks amazing in grey with matte black wheels! Shame about the dashboard though, it looks like its come from a cheap hatchback - much prefer the cleaner classy look from the old Vantage.
Could barely hear you. Once you were driving. As to the car. Nice rear end. Front end, not so good. Moved too far away from the traditional front end look. Dash and centre console instruments, far far too fussy. This car will go down well with footballers and in the Middle East and the US. UK and EU? Not so sure. Porsche seem to be getting their cabins right. Aston, not so much :(
I think the outside is it's best piece, but the front strongly reminds me of the Mazda MX-5. Cockpit and center console on the inside I dislike. Buttons for climate stuff and on the steering wheel look like cheap plastic and there is no way to hide away that small low-res screen. I'd prefer an F-Type or Mercedes GT over this. Never thought I'd say that about an Aston.
Excellent review Harry! I bought a Vantage this past November and love everything about the car. I know everyone gripes about the infotainment system, but I find to to work just fine. This is a car for driving, not fiddling with the gadgets in the infotainment system. Anyone considering one of these cars, I highly suggest you drive one. In my opinion they are a true bargain in the used market right now!
@@lambo88 I haven't used it as a daily, but I put 5000 miles on it since I bought it, so one year ago. I had an issue with the mouse track pad for the infotainment system, but it was covered under warranty. Outside of that, it's been perfect. So one year later, am I happy with my purchase? Yes, 100% I would buy again and STRONGLY recommend. I know you posted this 6 months ago, did you end up buying one?
What gets me is the shaky onboard cameras. How do shows like Top Gear / Grand Tour do such steady onboards? Surely Harry can invest in better mounts or something.
@@CARPB147 And the shows I mentioned review the same stiff/sporty cars without the camera shake. I think Harry has improved his setup somewhat more recently.
@@friggincanvee - I've also seen those shows. They use different roads and even tracks with their groomed surfaces, their emphasis being on performance and handling. If you mount a GoPro (or some such) to a fixed surface like a window you will get camera shake on a bumpy road. Harry records his videos in somewhat bumpy back roads coming out of his house.
Martin Berry, I agree...it's lost the classy appeal of the old vantage which was timeless. A real pity because it sounds great and is apparently a great drive too. I tend to feel the same way about the latest Ferrari and Lamborghini models as well though, and hate McLaren's look and I'd stick 3 pedals and a stick shift in all cars, so perhaps I'm just a dinosaur lol
Dash and center look a bit cheap, really gotten away from the gentleman’s sports car. The exterior is alright, but interior not so. I’d rather the new 911
so much money yet the same about of plastic as in my kia. If i was purchasing a car that costed that much I wouldnt want to see any plastics. All the buttons should be metal.
I cant fathom why Aston would used the old infotainment system from Mercedes? The headlight are very disappointing, and the side skirts curving up make this car look silly, like a toy. The only saving grace is the rear, beautifully modern.
Aston's infotainment is inferior to Mercedes old infotainment which they have to use as part of their deal. Looks are subjective, I think this car is strikingly pretty overall.
Was about to post something similar but noticed you’d already referenced the MX-5 similarity. It’s very image-lowering and just not good enough for a brand at the price-point of AM
I couldn’t live with the Interior. It’s hideous. Masterpiece engine from AMG and dashboard from Nissan’s reject bin. Oh, and front end from Mazda while we’re at it. 😃
This is the only sports car of 2018/19 that has been a real disappointment for me. Neither does it look as good as the previous model, nor does it have any real integrity. It's an engine from the C Class AMG! The interior is, let's face it, a mess! It's a pretender all round in my opinion.
The interieur is not worthy of the car. It's worse than one out of an Vauxhall. Sorry that is even an insult to Vauxhall. Can somebody tell me why on earth?
Love your blogs, Harry, and I am sure you have heard this many times before - I simply cannot make out what you are saying 90% of the time you are in the car! Jay Emm and the like seem not to have this problem.
G'day Harry really enjoying the channel, binges out yesterday watching a ton of your reviews, really liked the Bentley Continental review, I like it better than the Rolls, & a lot cheaper too. All the best 👍👍😎
After watching the entire video I found the center console cluttered, the exterior a little too busy and the exhaust note exhausting quite frankly. For the first time I think Harry gushed over this particular car a little excessively.
Could you find out from AM why its that heavy Harry ? Its as compact as a 911, uses a brand new bespoke alloy chassis, pure 2 seater.... shouldn't it be 1400 KG wet, ready to roll ?
Aston martin vantage is always heavy old one also 1,710 kg. V8, steel build leather and electronic. They not big multinational manufacturer that can reduce weight by using expensive technology. That why the v12 superleggera weight around 1,693 kg. You has to like them enough for their drawback.
@@campkira Lotus Cars is a tiny/under funded compared to AM & are even more hampered by using off the shelf hardware, yet their cars remain light for their class. The original Elise was a touch over 700 KG, the current one a touch under 900 KG, the Exige V6 430 is 1100 KG, Evora 430 1300KG.... AM is waaaay off these figures, let alone matching the 911 which is a direct Vantage competitor & benchmark. Lotus Engineering has consulted on their extruded / bonded alloy chassis tech with AM for over 2 decades, AM even have ex-Lotus employees like Matt Becker engineering their cars... so what are the reasons for being 20 - 30% overweight on a brand new design ?
I really would like to love this new AM's but unfortunately Mercedes part just ruins them. Their heart 4.0 is just emotionless and central console is a joke...
One of the things I love most about the new Aston is that it introduces a real frisson of challenge, fear and respect - adding up to some genuine excitement when you push on a little. As pretty much everyone else moves in the direction of putting 0-60 times of 3 seconds and 500+ bhp at the safe, kid-gloved and nannied disposal of people who don’t particularly like cars or who don’t know or have never learned how to drive well.... the new Vantage is like a bare knuckled punch in the face. In a good way.
So many jealous people in the comments. This new Vantage is beautiful, with a different language design from the DB11/DBS something that was missing in the previous generation, the interior could be better but its not that bad and the performance and handling are great. One of the best Aston's ever.
Time will tell if best "ever"....excellent performance, menacing looks, great handling..but....something is missing when compared to the previous gen car. Somehow doesn't feel quite as special as the old one when you are driving it...I "like" it, still trying to love it.
Why do so many people buy grey cars. They are the same colour as the road. I call it road camouflage. Surely it's dangerous to drive a car that other drivers have difficulty seeing?
