I have the 2018 hybrid. I had initially intended as a replacement for wife's 2011 Sienna XLE. However, after taking it to work, 24 mile one way, and being able to plug in at work, I ended up using it as my daily commuter. In the 5 months I've had the vehicle I've racked up 10,000 miles, this includes a 3000 mile road trip, I've averaged 61mpg. I've gone from spending over $200 a month in gas to $30, plus $40 extra toward the monthly electric bill. Currently there is a $7500 tax rebate for plugin hybrids, factoring this in easily makes this vehicle cheaper than the gas version of the comparibly equipped Pacifica or any other competitor's van.
What's your electricity cost where you live? I calculated we spend $225/month on gas right now. I think I can bring our fuel cost down to half that. Any pro's/con's you've experienced so far with the van in general?
It really does depend on your driving habits, how long you keep the van etc. The average person puts 12000 miles a year on a car. That's 32 miles per day(Pacifica can go 33 miles on electric, probably not a coincidence!) I only drive 20 miles roundtrip per day, so even with the cost of electricity, it should be a no brainer for me. For you I think you'd have to keep it 5 years to break even. 70 miles per day x 365 days =25550 miles per year divided by 23 mpg for regular Pacifica = 1110 gal per year x 2.50 per gal = $2777 per year. For the hybrid ; 70 miles per day- 33 miles electric=37 miles on gas x 365=13505 miles per year on gas divided by 30 mpg for hybrid =450 gal per year x $2.50=$1125. The difference is $1650x 5 years= $8250(addl cost covered). Some states offer tax incentives also. I have an older Chrysler mini van but plan to get the hybrid. It's not cool, but I can sleep in the back when I go camping and I'm not spending an extra $10000 to $20000 more for an SUV with less cargo capacity.Thanks for the video.
We have a2017 Pacifica limited. Now want the hybrid Pacifica. Lots of 2018 available but have heard nightmares of the 2018 hybrid. They shut off. I even had issues with our 2017 loss of engine power. So should i wait for the 2019 or risk 2018 issues
After the tax credit, there's a $5500 difference between the gas base model and the hybrid base model. Between potential gas savings over the life of the car, and the feature gap between the two (hybrid base model is much better equipped), I think you'll easily find $5500 of value going with the PHEV. But I totally agree with buyers applying their use case to these kinds of vehicles.
how did you get your hand on the 2019 model already?! It's not even showing on the official chrysler website yet! I've been waiting for it for the last 3 months already!!! :(
Not sure you did enough checking on features to features here to make your conclusions. The biggest fact is that there is ZERO up-charge for the hybrid. If you check the site and trim levels you will realize that the hybrid starts at the touring level and not the more stripped down base trims for the gas only variant. The price comparing the same trim levels is exactly the same and actually comes in around $1000 less for comparably equipped other brands such as the Sienna. I just priced one compared to the hybrid so I very familiar with the pricing. Your "math" was making this incorrect assumption throughout your video.
