2019 Ford Edge 2.0 Ecoboost coolant flush with vacuum tool. The change of coolant was because Ford has released technical documents stating to change orange coolant due to corrosion issues. The Ford recommended coolant color is yellow. I have been using Peak Long life and now Peak 10X in my vehicle of all makes and models. Works great and easy to buy off the shelf at most stores. Plan 4-5 hours to change the coolant in the 2.0 Ecoboost due to the small drain amount and system complexity. Tools and products use in this video were paid for by private funds. Thank you VERY MUCH for taking the pain staking time to record, edit and upload this video!! One of, if not the most thorough videos on this topic for this vehicle!! You were DEFINITLY NOT KIDDING when you said plan 4 to 5 hours.... I thought to myself... how in the world could it take that long. Well, 5 or so hours later.. your words echoed in my head LOL :) Couldn't really see why you needed that radiator drain tool... but on my 2016 Edge Sport... it is TIGHT in there.. less room than in yours. I took an old socket and used a dremel to cut a notch in it and made a tool real quick! But thank you for showing the tool.. it gave me the idea. Thank you again Brother!! God Bless!

Radiator drain valve is called a petcock.

This is a decent DIY video! At the shop, they only give you an hour to do this process, we use a machine that connects to the upper radiator hose to block and radiator then uses a large quick connect bypass tube so you can heat up the system, we then add a cleaner to the degas bottle and run the engine to hot and run just a little while to let some of the cleaner go through and then basically do the same thing you are doing in your video just through the upper hose and radiator. The system does a decent job at burping itself if you don’t get all of your bubbles, just remember to run the engine and the air will get to the degas bottle eventually. Thanks for sharing!

So 1 hour of labor is what this would cost? Better to get it done instead of diy

Not sure why you put flush in the title when even you state at the end that you didn’t flush the system, just a drain and fill.

Manufacturers love complicating things these days to get you to bring it to the dealer or buy special tools. Why not just make it a connection that can be removed using basic tools?!! The way it used to be.

You drain 3Q between flushes, how you do that you open the drain valve with the engine hot? and add more water to the engine hot?

Great tutorial upon coolant flush and change. Being your example is on a 2019 Edge, would these very same steps equally apply to the 2007 Edge SEL AWD 3.5L SUV ? An with using the pressure guage attached to coolant reservoir i didn't quiet fully understand its use I'm a novice mechanic learning here thank you.

This works well for cars with an actual degas bottle (bottle with two hoses going to it). A bunch of newer ford cars and trucks have a coolant reservoir instead (bottle with only one hose), and you're supposed to block off the hose going to it before installing the vac filler on the radiator itself. Great video for Edge owners though 👍

Very nice video. I’m about to do the same with my 16 Explorer Sport. I have a question though. Did you use the air vac tool while you were flushing the orange coolant with distilled water, or did you use the tool just for the final fill?

What’s the reason for changing it so quickly? Shouldn’t that coolant last til 60K?

You need to change the coolant once a year

I know with my 2017 model it's every 30k. It's also pink instead of orange for whatever reason.

The orange coolant was found to be corrosive which lead to early water pump failures. The orange coolant should be changed to the updated yellow or pink coolant ASAP.

I performed the same process on my 2.0 2015 Edge after replacing the thermostat and when I got to the step of using the vacuum tool to pull a vacuum on the system I could not get it to pull down. I could not find any leak points in any of the hoses and the radiator petcock was fully closed. After trying several times to use the tool I decided to use the five-times engine rev and engine idle and engine off method to degas the system, and it worked. Still, I can't figure out why the vacuum tool would not pump down the system. Is there a trick I am missing? I used the same tool on my 2013 Taurus 3.5 and had no problem pulling down the system.

I could not pull a vacuum on my 2018 edge 3.5. I could only drain about a gallon and a half at a time. Since i had 3 gallons concentrate of yellow i filled and Drained it 50 times . the color looked good in the tank . still good a couple of months later. the reason why it wouldn't drain is the engine outlet and inlet hose are at the same height next to each other.

@@ronvs4401 Just saw your comment. Rented a pressure tester from advance auto and found what appears to be a leak around at the underside seam at the overflow tank where the rectangular channel runs to the fill cap. According to Rock Auto it appears overflow tanks are a favorite part and so it might be a problem from the factory part.

So can we buy the coolant already with it being a 50/50 mix or we have to mix it to create said mixture being 50/50 to go back into system on the 2007 edge sel awd 3.5l suv ?
@aaron1576
@aaron1576 3 года назад
When you drain the system it is only draining from the degas bottle and radiator, there will be some coolant still in the engine block as well. I would suggest 50/50 mix for your initial fill and use concentrate to top off
@bloqueoav
@bloqueoav 3 года назад
good video, how much pressure is needed, to be able to suck the coolant out of the system, the engine block has air left inside, and how it is removed.
@aaron1576
@aaron1576 3 года назад
@@bloqueoav I feel I need more clarity, if you wish to remove all of the old fluid from the system (without doing a removal of your radiator and water pump) you would need a machine to pull constant pressure while also adding coolant to the system while the engine is hot. (so the thermostat doesn’t get in the way)
@d.e6430
@d.e6430 Год назад
@@aaron1576 How about taking out the thermostat and putting the hose back again then blowing some air to push all the old coolant out later when the system is empty we put it back in the thermostat and fill the system with new coolant?
@aaron1576
@aaron1576 Год назад
@@d.e6430 if you have a bunch of time on your hands and are not getting paid to flush the system, then yes, you could certainly remove the thermostat from the engine to do a flush and then reinstall afterwards.
