I was lucky enough to grab a couple of weeks with the new Honda CB650R a little while back. I was a little unsure about the bike until I threw a leg over it and got it out on the road. It's certainly more than the sum of its parts, and the allure of that zingy four pot motor is addictive. Could it really be the bargain bike of 2019

In case any other 650R owners are having trouble with the dash, stick a matte screen protector on there. I got a set of 2 off ebay for $10 and it completely eliminates the glare that makes the display hard to read. Huge difference in daylight.

Price-wise, it's far from a bargain but it's a beautiful bike.

I'm a cruiser rider, but man, that bike is muscular looking for a sport style bike.

This bike does not have down quick shifter only up that’s why you fluffed it had one for 5 months done 3600 miles swapped it 3 weeks ago for cb 1000 r it miles better dash is far clearer to see quick shifter works both ways and is smooth my 650 was always getting false neutrals brakes are miles better on 1000 I thought the 650 was a great bike until I test rode the 1000 swapped it there and then there chalk and cheese

Purchased mine on August 8th. In just a shade under three months, I'm approaching 3,000 miles on it. Absolutely love it. Best bike I've ever owned, hands down. Front signals on is required in the United States by law, so maybe they didn't want to do separate electronics for Europe. I added a tail tidy and heated grips, which are nice as it progresses to cooler weather. Great review! Enjoyed your take on it.

I have last years version, the 2018 CB 650F. Was going to go with the CB 650R but got a good deal on an F left in stock from last year. Love the bike for all the reasons you stated.

It’s a retro inspired bike and I have a 79 CM400 and the indicators are on on front at all times so it’s a 40 year old style that they are trying to make in the 19 cb 650 R R is for retro! 👍

Great bike. I own one after years of not riding and it has helped with the confidence build after years of not being out and about. I’ve got the quick shifter but it’s an up-shift only so no wonder you struggled downshifting.

Great review. I've watched some of your older reviews, well, only parts of them, because they had too much riding footage and the info/filler ratio isn't optimal. This is great, very to the point, lots of good info, well edited. I just sold my SV650 because I don't need a sport bike and am probably safer without it, now I want this Honda. Curse you!
