That's the benefit of a 4 cylinder machine, great power and great sound. Even the stock exhaust sounds beautifully.

@@fredo3816 not really. I’ve owned like four Hondas… and I’d buy another. It’s just I’ve owned a Suzuki, a Kawasaki, a Triumph, a bmw, and I’ve ridden Ducati’s, KTMs and the like. I was thinking about maybe going Ural, Husquevarna, Moto Guzzi, Norton or something.

Awesome review. I really appreciated the comparison to the Yamaha Mt-07 as far as the engine character. One of the most applicable and grounded reviews I have seen on this bike. Much appreciated!
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 5 лет назад
Thanks Amanda, I've owned both bikes so was a little easier to be more objective. I just love bikes, the MT07 does have so much character because of that engine, it's the highlight of the bike. However, I think inline fours also have character. They are smooth and rev high. People say they have no character but that IS their character and I think they miss the point. Happy riding!

I think dual channel abs, means, combined braking system - when use the front brakes, they do about 80% of braking and the rear does 20%. And vise versa. Anyhow, nice review again. And omg, that exhaust sound! Pure joy.

Solid review! I'm choosing the CB500F for my first bike, but I really like the headlight design and the exhaust sweeping nicely up the side of this CB650R... really slick looking ride, and I'd love to own one, just don't think I'm ready for or even need the extra power. Of course, there is OBVIOUSLY a huge fun factor for those who can handle the extra power. This is some great content :)

Have bought in the same colour. The bike was great on the test ride, brilliant light clutch, good fuelling and nice mid-range. It's worth every penny over the cost of an MT07 or SV650. To my eye it just looks and feels that bit more premium, not to mention the better spec.
@Braselton21
@Braselton21 5 лет назад
It will actually cost you less than a MT07. The MT07 is like a Tuner Car. You'll never see one stock. So in the end you'll end up spending a lot modifying the bike because it has endless amounts of awesome parts :D Pretty much depends on what type of sound you enjoy :)
@karlosh9286
@karlosh9286 5 лет назад
The CB650R looks pretty good, better than the SV650 and MT07. The trellis frame on the SV really doesn't appeal to me, and the MT-07 I find a bit ugly. I'm sure they're all good bikes, but looks are so subjective. The XSR700 doesn't look too bad. I think I'm going to get a Triumph Street Twin . Not as powerful as any of the aforementioned bikes, but I just think the Triumph's look so pretty and sound so awesome. At my riding ability, I probably don't need more than 64BHP ! But the prettiest bike for me is probably the Ducati Panigale, doubt I'll be able to afford one of those ever, or even ride it to anywhere near it's abilities. Also the seating position on a sports bike would probably cripple me !

Icansee u I didn’t end up getting the CB650R, I went for a CB1000R neo cafe sport instead. I can’t say I ride particularly quick, it tends to show between 49-52mpg on the display with rural riding.

An update, Dan. Had mine, now, for just over a month, and love it. The power the way it feels really solid, the suspension, the smooth clutch. The handling in corners. And that throttle. Addictive. Mum is 81, and was down last week, and she couldn’t wait to get on it for a pillion. Is not very tall, and said she was comfy on the back. I was surprised that it didn’t seem to affect the handling, that I noticed.. Am getting about 65mpg, but this is mostly country roads. (But spirited) Have seen many comments about the dash bring hard to read, but I haven’t had a problem with it. Have the quick shifter fitted, and took a while to remember to use it, but what a hoot, when giving it the beans. Love this bike, and really glad I have one. Thanks for your input and advice, when considering it . Cheers, Dan

@EnglishBikerDan Dual Channel ABS means that front and rear wheels have separate ABS systems. So basically there are 2 ABS systems, which is good for safety, in case of one them fails you won't be out of ABS completely.
@danebrewer10
@danebrewer10 5 лет назад
I think the dual channel bit of the ABS is that if it comes in, it only comes in for the wheel that's lost traction, the other you continue to brake as normal.....

Definitely a bike I would consider if i was reducing to one bike. I have a CB500X which I’m really delighted with for local riding and practical stuff. I also have a T120 which is a different animal altogether. Sometime in the future though I might reduce to just having one bike. Who knows, maybe the CB500X will be enough. The CB650R is probably a lovely bike though. I had a V4 in a ST1300 PAN, which had an incredible engine.

It's strange but I am much better at doing a left hand u-turn, even though I practice right hand u-turns I still find myself dropping a foot from time to time and then I feel like an idiot

Great review, have had mine for like 10 days now, and am putting almost all of Honda's own kit on it, like the aluminium plates and stuff. I love the bike and choose it over the KTM 790 Duke, because it was more smooth. I do miss some low rew torque and fury since I never plan to make it to 12.000rpm. Love the review, subscribed ;)

Hey, thanks for the sub! I went to look at the 790 and decided it just wasn't for me. I am sure it rides really well but I wanted something I loved the look of as well as good performance. It's such a great all rounder and it does go like a missile! Ride safe!

@@Englishbikerdan agreed, there a few bikes out now that match the looks of the CB650R. Let's see you do some rear fender deletes and get the plate up where it belong :-)

I had a MT07 too and loved the engine. Have always had this idea that a motorbike have 2 cylinders. I liked the look of this Honda and decided to give it a go. After the first testride I was quiet...had a cup of coffee and I went off once again! I could hear the mechanic laugh in the background! I just love the bike! Well made review! :-)

Fantastic review mate 👍 I ride a fair bit with the Mrs on the back so a slippery seat that wants to Chuck her off is an unexpected bonus pmsl 😅 On a serious note though I love the power delivery on this bike..... A real contrast to my MT07 😉 made my mind up on the CBR for sure 👊

22:15 - Counter Lean the opposite direction and drag the rear brake a little while turning.
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 4 года назад
It's a turning circle issue. I can do u turns no problem.
@puddingleaf
@puddingleaf 4 года назад
You shouldn't drag the rear brake when turning, that's awful advice. You should be at the correct speed to execute the turn using clutch and throttle.
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 4 года назад
@@puddingleafUsing the rear brake to help control speed while doing slow riding and U turns is absolutely fine and exactly what it's designed for and is taught by all good instructors. Hell, it's even useful when riding fast to scrub off a little speed instead of using the front brake. It helps settle the rear in corners too.
@puddingleaf
@puddingleaf 4 года назад
@@Englishbikerdan Not trying to be a pedant but I totally disagree. (Although I am with you on the speed scrubbing). If you are using the brake (any brake) you are at the wrong speed. I'm perhaps being a bit nit-picky here but if you used the rear brake on a bend on an IAM or Rospa test you would (and should) fail. For general riding, it's not a big deal - I accept that. I also accept that IAM/Rospa isn't necessarily the be-all and end-all but it wouldn't be encouraged at an advanced level.
@Englishbikerdan
@Englishbikerdan 4 года назад
@@puddingleaf It's just not how I was taught on my test which was albeit about 16 years ago. I was encouraged to tap the rear a little if needed to help control speed along with throttle and clutch for U turns.

Basic tehnique when turning is counter leaning at low speed and leaning same side at high speed...look where you go, not at the handle bar...apply rear brake to control the speed...

Hi Dan, I love your videos, keep them up. I just bought my 2020 Honda CB650R and I love it but and the engine braking is very strong, did you find out what the dealership did to the bike you tested in this video to reduce the engine braking? at minute 8:36 in the video. Thank you.
