I've had a CBR 650R from new for nearly 4 years now, and the engine vibrations disappeared after 5,000 miles or so. I'm about to trade her in and she's been faultless in true Honda fashion, starting on the button every time. The build quality can't be faulted, either, as she looks as fresh today as the day I picked her up. One recommendation I would say to anyone buying this bike is to bin the OEM Dunlop tyres. I put Metzeler sportec M9RR's on and they made a huge difference to the feel of the bike, especially in winter. My old, creaking shoulders can't take the riding position any more, I need something more upright, and that's the only reason I'm trading her in. I'll be sorry to see her go, but a ride without pain is something I'm looking forward to on my new Suzuki GSX-S 1000 GT.

Vibration went away? Interesting. Yeh I went with Angel GT 2 all round. (Daily bike even in winter). I do miss my 2019 CB. Never let me down, much more versatile than a CBR especially when filtering. I do miss it but the new owner and me are friends. It's still well loved. Loved it, fun, easy to ride. However the brakes are a bit of a letdown if you try anything with proper brakes. Sold and now ride a tdm900. 2009

"Blooming gorgeous" and "silky in-line 4": two things that cannot be said of a single competitor. I've never wished for riding modes on mine. And the retro-tech cable throttle doesn't come with the on / off snatchiness of so many ride by wire systems. I agree that the black edition is the best looking version to date, though I do miss the bronze engine / clutch casings. I think they would actually look really good with the black. Doberman style. ;-) Looking forward to the Hornet comparison!
@DavidSmith-hn5gg
@DavidSmith-hn5gg Год назад
I thought like this until I test rode the Hornet, I bought a Hornet straight away and I’m never having an inline 4 again. They’re boring at low speeds and vibrations are terrible at high speeds. The Hornets engine is fun at low speeds and no vibrations at high speeds… and in my opinion sounds so much nicer.
@rogerp4612
@rogerp4612 Год назад
@@DavidSmith-hn5gg you're welcome to your opinion, but the 2-3 upshift north of 10k rpm is never boring to me. Number of times I have been bored on my bike = zero. And I never have to feel like I'm riding an alien insect. Different strokes.

@MissMan666
@MissMan666 Год назад
@@DavidSmith-hn5gg No doubt the new Hornet engine wise is better, id wish i had that engine in my CB650R. For me it's just the looks isnt good with the new Hornet, it looks dated already in a not good way. I dont even think the looks they went for ever was popular around here. Imagine they keept the looks of the CB650R, keept the 180 rear tire, but put in the new sweet 750 parallel twin, now that would have been a smash hit.
@Pommo70
@Pommo70 2 месяца назад
Parallel Twins belong on either very large or small capacity bikes. These middle weight twins are awful. Fair play to Honda for keeping the straight four engines alive. Anyone who thinks that they don’t have power down low have obviously never ridden one properly.

@MissMan666
@MissMan666 Год назад
i dont think the fueling is anything special on my CB650R, it's just less crappy than many other new bikes, certainly has it flaws, a flat spot around 6000RPM, and ON/OFF fealing at low RPM's, could be alot bettter. I had bikes from the 90's that had superior fueling to this 2019 Honda.

These bikes are meant for a little bit of a tickle every once in a while for me. The MT07 does that job very well but there seems to be something missing. I have entertained getting a ZX6R but that may be a little bit to much of a tickle for a 69 year old man would want. I know the throttle is the control. i've been riding long enough to have owned Z1 when they first came out. I know how to control a throttle. I owned a Triumph Street Triple in 09 and wouldn't put it up until I reached triple digits on it. Not great for a long ride but it sure tickled me. I got rid of it because oil seepage around the valve covers. The KZ900RS is just too heavy and tall for me. I love the look though. This Honda seems to check the boxes that I have.

man if they did one of these for the cbr I'd be so happy. But sadly the black one has blue accents (on the tank being the worst part of it) and it's half gloss half matte which is dumb

Is there any different with the engine of the 2023 version compare to 2022 version? On the website of honda, 2023 has only around 83hp but at 10k rpm, and I cant find any information about this change with their engine. If I remember correctly, 2022 version has around 94hp at 11k rpm.

I currently drive a Honda PCX 125cc but just ordered a CB650R grey metallic yesterday (it will be my first big bike and should be here in about 3 months) and while I agree that the Black Edition is beautiful, I prefer having bronze engine cover, wheels and front fork. Looking forward to the comparison video between the CB650R and the CB750 Hornet! Thanks for the amazing video Dan 🖖

Nice to see they've added the black edition to the 650R although sadly i dont think it works as well as it does on the CB1000R that works so well in the BE but i dont feel the same about it on the 650R

Gr8 video and a gr8 bike, I had a 2019 matt Black CBR650R - however I had the opportunity to trade it in for an electric bike and wanted to experience a different type of riding. I would consider going back to petrol bikes so as not to lose the skill of riding a manual bike, but if the media is to be believed, petrol motorcycles like the CB650 black may not be available new from 2030 :(

Almost bought one of these recently. The only reason I didn't is because there is no deals on them and Kawasaki was offering great deals on the Z900 :) I still may want the CB650R more, money aside. It just ticks all the boxes, minus maybe having no adjustment in the forks

In the exact same boat. Got run over on my cb300r and was fortunate enough to have witnesses that ensured a nice payout. I’ve been looking at both the cb650 and the xsr700 but the dealer has a new ‘23 z900 for $8000 US and I feel like I can’t pass up a deal like that. How has yours treated you?

@West Great so far. Still in the break-in period. Haven't even dialed in the sag yet. It's on the to-do list. Definitely need a flash tune or power commander to smooth out the herky-jerky throttle though

Is the 2023 version reduced the engine power?. In my country honda said that they reduce engine power from 72kW to 63 kW to ensure the gas emission standard

On my 650f the throttle is super snatchy and jumpy at low rpm like cruising round town but when you wind on the throttle it does annoy me sometimes having to wait for that rush of power and torque 🤣😊

Try gripping with your fingertips and feathering the throttle at low speed. Helped me a lot

I done about two hours on one of these, and it was my lower back that felt the discomfort the most, I really liked thing, but it kinda put me off... Maybe it's something you'd get used to? Or maybe it was just me feeble body? 😂 Prehaps I need to do some deadlifts to strengthen my lower back, and get "cb650r" fit.

I did my lessons on the previous model which were quite fun bikes to be fair, up until we hit the motorways and had to rev up quite a bit. Even in 6th going roughly 150km/h on the dash the thing felt like it could come apart any second, dreadful experience. Did you test the higher speeds on the bike and how does the new one hold under those conditions? (Minor disclaimer: my teacher thought I was somewhat born for the bike and gave me the quirky older bike of the lot every time so perhaps it was specifically that bike that was my problem, but I doubt there's that much of a difference, especially considering he treated his bikes like they were his children in many ways)
@rogerp4612
@rogerp4612 Год назад
"Felt like it could come apart"? There was definitely something off with your particular bike. Mine is as smooth at that speed as it is at half that speed. Wind blast is fierce at 150 - but the bike itself is solid and stable.
