Yep for sure, I’m impressed! Sorry if you noticed the bad sounding audio at times..especially the intro. Had a super unlucky day of filming but tried to piece it together. I always appreciate your support, Jasetraber!
Pictures and videos don't do this car any justice. It looks way better in person. I went to the dealership and I had trouble convincing myself it was the same car.
Great review, as always! The Insight definitely seems like it will give the Prius and Ioniq a good run for their money in the compact hybrid vehicle segment. Also, I absolutely love the traditional car styling that Honda chose to execute on the Insight. All in all, keep up the great work, Nolan! 👍🏽
Appreciate this review! I am upgrading (finally) from a 2006 Toyota Corolla to a hybrid, and am about 95% certain I am going with a 2019 or 2020 Insight.
This is the best review on RU-vid, thanks! I purchased my Insight EX earlier today and I'm impressed, it's so quiet I didn't know it was running when I started it. Looking forward to 50+ mpg. I'd give it a solid 9.9, it would have been a 10 if it had a few more features such as rear air and powered drivers seat and lumbar.
Just got my 2021 Insight Touring last week. Its awesome. Great looks, gas milaege, awesome tech, quite cabin, comfortable ride, ample power, beautiful designs..most of all great price..IMO 9 out of 10.
It looks like they left room for the Accord Hybrid. It would be interesting to hear if it turns out to be a more refined big brother. If you have the opportunity, it would be interesting to see your review. Great job on this review.
Thanks, James! You’re right about them leaving room for the Accord. I’d like to see how the Accord Hybrid is too so I think I will try to get an Insight Touring and compare to the Accord Hybrid soon!
Appreciate the review. I test drove this exact trim and I really loved it. Had to change my plans, but it looks like I might be able to purchase one in the spring! I think I could be very happy with this car.
Nice review as usual. So I think this car is going to sell pretty well! It definitely looks nicer in the Touring trim (bigger wheels, fog lights, in mirror turn signals as you mentioned). The exterior color looked nice. The interior looks great on this car. The materials and colors Honda did a great job on the interior. Thanks for the review!
Great review. Only major drawbacks appear to be limited interior space and limited power, but it's a hybrid so I imagine people in the market for such a car are expecting that.
Very pleased that the hybrid battery is lithium ion. I have a 2006 Honda Civic hybrid with 90k miles and I just installed NiMH battery #3. Price point is very good, about what I paid 12 years ago. Nice review.
They replaced the first battery free after about 6 years but not the second one after about 12 years. Apparently the warranty is 10 years or 150,000 miles. I had 92,000 miles.
This is a really nice looking car for a hybrid. I actually like it more than the Civic or the Accord. The gas milage is outstanding too of course, but it doesn't look anything like a typical hybrid car.
I purchased a 2019 Insight Touring in mid-July and I get incredible gas mileage, mind you I never put it in sport mode as I didn't buy it for speed. I surpass all manufacturer specs on gas mileage, it's all about how you drive the car.
Great Review Bro. This is quite impressive for a compact hybrid. The exterior does look better than the Accord and Civic in my opinion. I would like to know what the fuel tank cruising range would be on this car vs the Accord Hybrid. The touring trim could almost be the new ILX. Lol. Just saying
Thank you! It definitely is and I agree on the Exterior. The Insight cruising range for LX/EX is 551 for quotes combined MPG and 601 for Accord. Not far off! Thanks for watching!
CORRECTION: I mentioned that wireless charging was available as an accessory. Thats not true - not available! Sorry about the fluctuating tones on my microphone! I had camera/microphone troubles the whole time filming and very limited time to get it done. Thanks for watching and let me know what you think of the new Insight!
Prime Autotainment it was perfect 👌 the fluctuating tones not noticeable at all. And I got one!! And very pleased of seeing your review. Amazing keep it up!!
I said Honda Sensing is standard...did I say Lane Watch was standard somewhere in the video? If so that’s my bad, but Honda Sensing is standard across all trims
I'm partial to the Aegean blue. Crimson pearl comes in second, but definitely better than the rest of the options. I'm personally not at all partial to black, but some may like it. I think white and the Honda-trademark silver are just super boring. Something to note is that under the fix-a-flat kit holder, there's at least a well provided for a spare tire or donut if you want one. I like how it isn't as conspicuous like other hybrids are.
I like the video, but would like to see you compare this car to the Honda Clarity. More space, less noise, and since I bought mine two weeks ago, I’m kind of amazed at how little gas I use. The clarity is geared toward people who want to use less gas, so it naturally runs in an EV mode, as opposed to an HV mode which is available. I live in Fort Worth Texas, so I drive a lot, but in 2 weeks I have only burned 4 1/2 gallons of gas. I think the Honda insight got the better radio system, with the physical buttons. Still, I’m getting used to the flat screen in the Clarity.
Good idea Sunny. I haven’t been in a charity yet but should get one and do that comparison. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Clarity so far. That’s fantastic using that little amount of gas!
Great review! I like the design and color. I wish Honda made the turn signal LED as well on the back, add A/C vents and charging port on the rear passenger, and used a blind spot radar instead of the camera mounted on the mirror. I think I found my new car :) Can you please do a review of Accord Hybrid LX model?
Thanks, Lawrence! All good points that I agree with! 👍. I am hoping to see an Accord Hybrid soon and I can try to get the LX when I do..might be a couple weeks but I’m gonna try 🙂. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Yeah it’s interesting they brought it back and didn’t make the civic a hybrid or something. The next thing will probably be some electric or hybrid smaller suv lol
My observations about the Insight so far: • Seems amusing to me that they put the button-based drive control rather than a stick, in the car which is trying to be "the hybrid that isn't weird" :P Seems like it would be easier to accidentally press a button, or for the controls to be covered up with papers or stuff that will slide over it compared to a stick. Not a big deal to me, but I don't see any advantage to the push-button system, so it seems like a sort of pointless extra learning curve for some people. • No option for normal blind spot monitoring is unfortunate. LaneWatch seems like a gimmicky and less functional alternative. Audio cues are preferable for driving and won't interrupt whatever other content is on the main screen (i.e. navigation, which you might be actively using, if you're changing lanes right now). Never used it though, so my opinions are tentative here. • Agreed the rear blinkers are in sort of a strange-looking position, but it's not a big deal :P • Doesn't appear to be an aux jack for audio, which is unfortunate. Yeah, you can do music wirelessly over bluetooth and all that, which works fine for people who are driving the car regularly, but if you're giving a ride to a friend who just wants to put something over the speakers quickly, it's convenient to have an option for simply plugging in with no setup, which works with every device in the last few decades with no dependence whatsoever on software support and all that nonsense. Just had an experience last week where I was in my car and my phone's bluetooth randomly refused to turn on, I would switch bluetooth on in the Settings and it would just sit there and do nothing (it finally turned on like 10 minutes later)... If only my car had an aux jack **rolls eyes** If I'm wrong and there is an aux jack on the Insight, I'd be glad to know about it though :) • No option at all for a CD player, I know most people probably won't miss it, but my mom still uses it whenever she's around, so would be good to have. I can understand not including it standard, but not even an option for it is unfortunate. • No option for driver seat memory is unfortunate • There's a pocket on the back of the passenger seat, but not on the driver's seat. Just... why? • Can't tell if rear headrests are height adjustable/removable • The seats fold down, which is great, but the seat belt is still attached to the frame above the seats and stretches over the cargo space kinda awkwardly. Seems like it would have been better to build the belt into the top of the seat itself if possible (I'm not a car guy so I don't know if that would really work). If not, some kind of disconnect system should have been implemented. • Can't tell if the trunk hinges are the type that will crush your cargo if you load up too much, but they appear to be that style. Unfortunate if so; my 2005 Acura TL has hinges that go into the car so they don't crush anything. • No locking glove box is kinda eyebrow-raising. Should be standard on all cars. • Doesn't seem to be a wireless charging option at least according to the Honda website, although the video mentions there is one. Maybe mixing it up with the Accord? • Would have been nice to have some kind of option for rear-accessible USB ports. • I like the looks • The fuel economy is impressive • I like the instrument panel • Center console storage looks pretty good, though the sliding top seems a bit weird. • Ceiling handles are good to see (looking at you, Tesla :/ ) • Honda Sensing safety features as standard is good • 2 USB ports in the front is good • I like the car in general.
A lot of great information here! Going to pin this comment! You’re right about wireless charging, I thought I read that it’s available as an accessory but it’s not! I can’t remember if the rear headrests are adjustable or not. You made a lot of good points ya and I appreciate the input!
thanks xD I've never sat it one though, sorry if I came across as an owner. I'm just putting together what I've learned from watching various reviews to help me decide lol, was looking for discussion really :P EDIT: **rereads** yeah I definitely came across that way, my bad xD
Anyone that puts that much into it...I think it deserves a pin unless you don’t want that attention lol. I didn’t take anything a bad way, no worries. I enjoyed reading it!
I went and checked out Rockwall but it was kind of far away, so I ended up buying one from David McDavid Honda Frisco because it was 5 miles away from where I live and they said it would be ready for my sons birthday.
Prime Autotainment on top of that we got the crimson pearl because we are aggies after all, and this whole car just made my son happy. Thanks for your review, it really educated me on this car!
Hey neighbor! I’d love to do one of those! I just got approval to receive vehicles from Hyundai..and get a Kona in a month...but the local dealership here hasn’t allowed me to review their vehicles. I’ll talk with them again soon or go to a different dealer but hopefully I can get one soon!
The one I was going to review was cleaned and ready, then someone bought it lol. Sorry about that. It came right off the dealer lot and the service dept was full and I only have limited time with it...
Thanks for a great review! I am planning to get 1. A question: I spend a lot of time on my job mobile where I am sitting in my car idling/on my laptop, etc. When the car is idling extended will it use the electric?
Thanks, Samuel! Yes, when it’s idling it will use electric but if the car needs to run the A/C more or something that might require more power..the engine will kick in temporarily. But otherwise it seemed to try to stay in electric while I was idling. Very quiet when it’s like that too!
Hey Brother what do you think about the overall comfort of the seats. I know their missing lumbar but if you were to make a road trip in the car out of 10 how comfortable are they. Thanks and love your content
It’s definitely hard for me to say because I had such little time and was spending more time trying to remember what I wanted to say lol, but for this class I’d say 8/10. They seemed to have good shaping and it helps that they can still move up and down. Even though lumbar isn’t adjustable...a small cushion or towel could do the trick if extra lumbar is needed. I think they would probably be good! Wish I could help more but thanks for watching! 👍
It woud have been helpful to explain how to use the paddles on the steering wheel. Otherwise a very good video. Thank you. I pick mine up at the dealership tonight. EX in White Orchid Pearl. Sweet!
I did Walkaround a 2018 Pilot Elite, though I didn’t drive it. Hopefully I can get behind the wheel of one soon but it probably won’t be till the 2019 models hit the lot
Hey Nolan, Great review. Would it be possible for you to do a video on the Insight Touring and the Accord hybrid touring models ? Thanks so much, David
Thanks David! Yes, I’m hoping to get back to the dealer soon and plan to do a comparison! Depending on what trim levels they have I’ll get one done, probably published early August if not sooner!
Michael Bahlatzis I will try to get one from them soon! I actually went there to review both the EX and Touring side by side but they just sold it! They’ve got more coming in
Good question. I just looked and don’t see it listed as an accessory but I’m sure you could get one from the dealer or somewhere else just to be safe. Or at least have run-flat tires to help in case
So Honda decided to make their hybrid offering the best and sportiest looking as well - what a novel concept! I have been put off by the styling of the last few generations of Accords and I think the last attractive Civic was the 8th-gen. Been driving Honda/Acuras for 20 years and have purposely avoided the newer ones for this reason. This car just might bring me back into the new or new-ish car flock. And the new Priuses are ungodly ugly. Nice job, Honda! First gen Insight - weirdest and fugliest looking car in the postmodern Honda era Second gen Insight - looked like a Prius clone Third gen Insight- looks like an exotic sports car and still gets 50mpg Honda stylists are nuts but whatever! I'll take it!
My friend leather sucks automobile industry is trying to get out of it. Its no longer as popular. 1. Less comfortable than cloth seats. 2. Too hot in summer and too cold in winter. 3. Maintaining leather sucks. 4. Bad for environment and for well being of animals. Leather meant status in the 80's but slowly fazing out
Not sure I can agree on the less comfortable but the hot in the summer I get. Leather is so much easier with toddlers and little ones. I came looking for a review of the touring as leather is a must for me at least for a few more years plus I want some of those extra bells and whistles. Still disappointed that it doesn't have the blind spot monitoring...
Why do all Japanese cars look alike? The insight looks like a civic which looks like an accord. Small, medium and large... Toyota Corolla, Camry, Avalon... Small, medium and large...Nissan Sentra, Altima, maxima ... Small, medium and large... Just saying they design ONE car and just increase the size to fit.
I actually find the exterior to be sexy compared to the hideous accords exterior design language. I don't hate Honda. Just despise the ugly duckling Accord for 2018
do not buy this junk!! I bought this and did not drive single miles. I have mutiple warning light and hood do not close properly. They do not have the part in dealer and I do not know how long takes to fix it. The american honda said, they sent the part to dealer. I asked them to provided for tracking number and they said, they do not have it. what a big lier. terrible service. poor communication.
