As long as I don't see any leaks, I change the factory fill on CVTs by weighing what comes out and putting the same amount back. Think that'll work on the zf9 without going through the 1-4 gear in maintenance mode?
You can do that but it's not the best practice. The transmission could be low to begin with and if you do that method you wont fill it enough and that can cause failure over time. If you are certain the proper amount of fluid is in it than sure but if not, follow the procedure and cover your ass
I noticed you said new drain plug? Is that just on the 9 speed or others. Also the new 9 speed has alot of quirky ways of checking fluid to putting in maintenence mode. I always like learning. My 21 civic.... when I do drain and fill of cvt. I put new crush washer on drain plug and re install. I hope that is correct. Is there a service book I can buy for my car like a honda one.
The volume of fluid changes depending on temperature hence why there's a temperature range in the service manual. With that said, I have an AC weight scale that'll give me measurements down to the grams/oz, so I've always weighed out and back in if I know it's not low/leaking.
