The room is awesome, dude! Gotta love IKEA for gaming related shelving! I also agree on the Japanese GameCube games, I only have a few in my collection but that sm0l form factor is too cute.
Right? The sleeves aren’t durable, but they’re adorable! One of the game stores I frequent here in Osaka was having a blowout sale recently on GameCube games. (¥200-¥400 a piece, boxed!). I never intended to start a GC collection, but they’re SO cute! And at those prices... well... I have about 20 or so now... 🤣😅 And thanks for the tip on IKEA for game shelves! I’ve been looking for a solution...
To be honest I would not use Ikea stuff for gaming at all. I know it is hard to barf up some money "only" for the setup, but over 12 Years I had one Ikea shelf after the other breaking down on my gaming setups, especially if you put an old heavy CRT TV on top of the Retro shelf :( It took me several hrs of planning it out with my wife (a home designer) and it was pricy, but my current setup is very satisfying and sturdier than anything I ever saw from Ikea! *We had custom built 2 big shelves (1,20m high and about 2m wide EACH )* Now I can have my CRT and HD TV next to each other with 24 consoles hooked up simultaneously without ever switching a single cable and I still have some slots free for consoles to come. Bottom line: *If you have the time to save some money for it I would have a custom build shalf oder anything IKEA!*
@@sickmind33 Yeah me too I want it to be how the ouya is dead and it can still be hacked and you can still play Ouya exclusives and emulation even after the store has been shut down.
It looks so clean and pristine! Fantastic job with the setup and thank you for showing us your awesome collection! I may take some cues from this myself.
absolutely killer collection, with fantastic taste. not to mention that couch looks ridiculously comfy as well lol, easily one of the best set ups i've seen in a long time.
Great collection, that PS4 Pro is picking too much dust at ground level, I would suggest setting it higher. Remember it's a high temperature operation system, dust just may kill it, leave ground level spots for consoles without a Fan or an optical drive
I suggest moving the CD disc base on to the second shelf instead of the bottom because to prevent more dust. Ground units will get more dust and particles. The ps4 needs to go up. Any systems with a fan needs to go up on higher lvl. Nice collection.
Anything on ground floor will get the most dusts. I would put the cartridge base console on the bottom. Having a fan base system would attract more dust but on an upper lvl would minimize it. It wont stop all dust though even on upper lvl but it's better than cleaning so often.
I would agree but I also saw the ash tray sitting on the arcade unit in the beginning. If he smokes then dust is a minor concern compared to the damage from cigarettes. I wouldn't put my consoles that low regardless.
@@DauntlessDamian I'm fairly certain that the ashtray is there purely because it's a part of the arcade cabinet's history; MVG has probably never used it
Some thoughts that came to mind as I was watching this great tour: Video on how you maintain your arcade cabinets next? List of the IKEA/furniture equipment? Why you chose those versus other alternatives? What do you think you could do to improve your setup or what are you thinking next with the Game Room? Specs on TV? What's a good modern TV for retro games/multiple game setups? What type of PVM was that? What's your most priced part of your collection? Why is the Ps4 pro the best of this generation?
yep , david hayter kinda went downhill since mgs2. In mgs4 and peace walker it sounds like he's trying too hard to make snakes voice as genuine as possible , but his performances are very good either way
@@jspantonio8807 agreed mostly, except that i can accept it in mgs4 due to snake being old, but peace walker was horrendous for his voice acting. Still a good game tho.
You're game Room is certainly one of the most visually attractive setups, I like how you have Every system displayed is actually playable which is tough to do because of all those cords. Very nice!
I think you did a good job on that room. How on earth did you convince mrs. MvG, that it was a good idea? ;) Also, you CAN add a backing to your console setup. You just have to go to home depo ;)
Mississippi Mike it’s not about asking permission, but you should consult with your wife. After all this room belongs to both of you and you should agree on its use. Not asking also means there’s something wrong with the relationship...
I build my shelves my self and I installed a double backing (with access panels) you can’t see any cables even from behind only a plug for power...amazing and really cheap
First off. Very nice gameroom, enjoyed the tour. One q. I saw your AES, yet your neo ganes are mvs! Do you have a mvs in one of the cabs, or (and possibly?) do you also have a convertor that lets you use those carts on the AES?
Great looking setup! I wasn't even aware there was an official blue OG Xbox released in North America. Must have been some sort of super limited-edition deal as I only see a handful on eBay at the moment, and most of those are in Canada. I was working at Electronics Boutique at the time they would have hit but I never saw them, just the green original Halo ones.
Wouldn't a light fabric, with some small cutouts and held on with velcro circles on the back of the ikea furniture help with hiding all the cables/clutter behind?
Amazing room. An Xbox One X is easily a great console alone for BC X360 and OG Xbox games, plays best on it, especially the “X-enhanced” games that look glorious in 4K like Panzer Dragoon Orta. 👾
Yeah, to me XB1 has some problems especially on the UI side, but the BC is something to really be celebrated. Playing some of my old games in 4K is like getting a remaster for free.
This guy makes a career talking about piracy on RU-vid but shows off his ridiculous, legitimate collection lol. I honestly thought I was looking at an episode of MetalJesus at first look
I clean mine once a year. Reason. I have a stereo cabinet with a glass door dating back to the early 90s which I use for my systems. The backing of the stereo is open for wires. It fits about 9 consoles. The only way dust can come in is to the back and if I open the glass door. The back is next to a wall. I don't have a problem with dust.
Depends where you live, in my home in the countryside (UK) dust collects on stuff about 1 a year, minimum cleaning, but abroad where I study in a city in Southern EU I have to remove dust 1-2 a month, it’s just crazy dusty there even when my windows are mostly closed. I just don’t get it.
Very clean set up. Fucking IKEA to the rescue when it comes to storage and display solutions. Why not run the N64 via S-video to the PVM? And I too have no desire for full sets of games, for every one great game there is 5-10 shitty games. Need my space for the good stuff.
You could easily cut/shape and paint some cardboard and place that in first. Then install the games and they would be in the front of the shelf but the backing would keep them all lined up correctly.
Love the game room by the way, it inspired me to create my own. Am i mistaken or or do you have 8 shelves of og xbox games not 7? the 8th one is briefly seen next to the seventh, below the last 360 game slot.
@@allgood925 enough already the x is way better than the pro in every way and is currently the best system in the world. Proven already by every analysis you can think of
Whats an xbox ? I just platinumed bloodborne and old hunters. Gonna start horizon after and some uncharted lost legacy after. Also getting the vita out thanks to ratalaika games. Anybody driveclub and spiderman coz.i need tips heaps.
Very nice setup! I seriously need to work on some cable management myself, heh. Slightly sad to see your distaste for the Xbox One after how much you clearly enjoyed the original Xbox and Xbox 360, but I suppose Microsoft did it to themselves early on. I started out similarly with the Xbox One, but it has really grown on me over the years, to the point where I get everything I can for it and primarily use my PS4 for exclusives. Part of it comes down to how much I like the current Xbox One controller. Hoping to see a little more even competition between the two next generation, as I feel like Sony is falling back into the attitude they had going from PS2 to PS3 again. Much like Microsoft between the 360 and Xbox One. This cycle gets old.
Just a head's up with that EON N64 HDMI device. It's really just an svideo connection which upscales and outputs to HDMI. It's expensive ($150+) and you can get better results, including zero additional latency, from a cheap $5 svideo cable + RetroTINK-2X ($99). The best looking output you can currently get to the N64, non-emulated, is the Ultra HDMI. It can be a tricky install, with a ribbon which needs to be soldered to a surface mounted PPU, but I think you know your way around a soldering iron. But anyway, buying the RetroTINK-2X + Svideo cable over the EON, will save you at least $50. It's also a line doubler, like the OSSC, instead of an upscaler, so it won't add input lag like upscalers will do. Not to mention you can use the RetroTINK-2X for many other systems which have svideo and component outputs.
The most impressive part of your game room is how clean and neat it is. LOTS OF GAMES? Sure impressive. LOTS OF GAMES and somehow your game room isn't a gross mess, with messy cables, super dusty, and unorganized!? DAMMMNNNNNN IMPRESSED.
Don't spend 150 bucks on the EON for the N64, is just a S-Video converter, just mod the N64 for RGB or use a S-Video cable on the Framemeister, the EON stuff is good only for who doesn't have a decent upscaler.
Those IKEA cabinets are great. I use them as well with RCA switcher and hdmi switcher as well. My unit looks so similar to yours. Just wish my games collection looked the same. 🤣
You could fill the back with some cheap white board cut to size and open holes at the back to pass the wires through. Helps a lot with cable management. As for the cubes, you could have some glass cut to size to act as shelves and put them in the middle of each cube to double the capacity for consoles! That way you kind of maintain the look of the furniture and the glass overall looks quite neat!
I have a set of cube shelves like that. Best thing i found to do: go get some speaker material and staple it to the back. cut small holes for the wires. Looks really good.
One X is most powerful (it's what I play) but judging by his small collection he, like many others, probably jumped ship to PS4 early on after the OG One/One S turned out to be a dud due to lack of exclusives and being underpowered. Will be interesting to see if he comes back to Xbox next gen or not.
Awesome game room tour MVG, I really enjoyed the video and thank you for showing us your collection. I seen what appeared to be dirt on your Sega Dreamcast console on the right top side of the console. Keep up the great videos.
I love how clean the set up is. If I could change one thing, and I'm nitpicking, I would have gone for black shelving with the white walls. It could have been a good contrast, but black shelves might take away from the games themselves.
14:53 is the paint on your copy of MGS Twin Snakes starting to flake? I think about 8 out of every 10 discs are. I've been asking around on FB and Twitter and a ton of people posted there photos. From anything like a barely noticeable line in the paint to some where almost all of the white paint has buckled up and is falling off. Luckily there is a polycarbonate layer between the paint and the reflective aluminum layer. So the data seems to be unharmed. Anyone else reading this, also please check your Twin Snakes if you have a copy. Its a very strange paint defect. I do wonder if all of the GC games will end up like that in the future. I suppose it's no use dreading it. Though I wonder if it isn't a bad idea to spray the art on the top with a clear coat to keep it from happening.
I heard that particular game had poor quality discs, and a lot of those discs become unusable due to the poor quality accelerating disc rot. Is this true?
@@hozus.7330 Well, the problem lies with the paint. It's either a defect which happened during production of the disc, or something with the mixture of the paint used on the disc itself, but the data is still protected by a layer of polycarbonate plastic which is between the disc art and the reflective aluminum. So it may look bad, but should still work fine. I've also seen examples of this with other games too. For some reason it seems to be more prominent with either white or very light colored labels, such as Resident Evil 4, Mega Man Anniversary, but I've seen some others which are different colors too. I really do think they are all going to end up like that sooner or later. Sort of like how many older Atari 2600 labels have glue stains over time. Be thankful it isn't disc rot. That kills the data.
Just and addon about the Kallax shelves I use the same ones and have added pegboard to the back painted to match. looks really good its cheap, easy to work with and makes the shelves much more stable. Also you can use the holes to cable tie cables to it for management.
I like them for the exact same reason as he does (I think...?). They look unique, distinct from basically any other system. NA/JP cases are anything but. On a related note, unlike almost every other retro CONSOLE, PAL DC's PAL library is arguably superior to its NA counterpart as well. Shenmue II (the best game on the system IMO), Headhunter (in the top 10) and Rez etc. were never released in North America.
Mynthon they’re all fair points, especially on the artwork front which was consistently better than NA releases...they just failed on the most basic function of protecting the discs themselves! The disc spindles were particularly weak, leaving your disc rattling around in the case. Still, I bloody love the console regardless...
Love Your Game Room Set Up... Just Curious to why the Xbox one was a Let Down to you. I was a Die Hard PS fan until the Xbox came out and I have never looked Back Mainly Because I hate the PS controller Lay Out...
Wow man This is a gamer paradise. Good job You deserve more views as well as subscribers Not only ypu have an awesome setup with you put the effort of organizing it and keep it clean/simple.
