Couldn't agree more with you, my friend. While those are fine from time to time, it's always a breath of fresh air when you come across channels like My Life in Gaming. Their topics are straightforward and educational. But they are also fun, enjoyable and approachable. I always find myself coming back to this channel. Coury and Try really know their stuff. MLiG is my number one go-to channel for anything retro gaming, and I always recommend them to all my friends.

I am completely drooling over Coury's setup. Especially compared to his old setup. I have never seen anything quite like it. People like to brag how their setups have top of the line cables for 4K Gaming, but he is the first one that has the setup that completely covers all grounds. Old and new, the way most of us here like it. I'd do anything to have a setup like his!

So beautiful. I LOVE older games, still play regularly on my ice blue N64 my brother got for christmas back in 2000. I love it when people actually ENJOY and USE retro games like you guys, instead of just hoarding boxes on a shelf, never to try like so many collectors or hipsters these days. So much work goes into maintaining these systems to ensure longevity and get the best performance out of them, I love how this channel dedicates so much into the scariest and most difficult process of retro gaming. Thanks!

Hey guys, i'd like to make an arcade cabinet where I could pop all of my consoles in with compact switchers like the gscart and everything plus a consumer crt(yes it gets the job done cmon) and control panel with pretty much every controller input from my consoles made out of extension cables connected to the consoles with detachable panels per consoles where I slide in the controllers . Then the framemeister s output would go right into my Elgato capture card and the other end of my gscart to a pvm for a super crisp image and an optimal environment for speedrunning. Do you think this is a good idea? Cuz I need to save the most space in my room ( which is really , but really small) that’s why I think an arcade cabinet is the way to go...

4:06 "It's pretty important to make sure that [the switchers] are powered. This helps you avoid image degradation" I think that's a bit open to debate. Others have suggested using the exact opposite for just that purpose. ImplantGames Reviews, for example, opted for an unpowered component switcher by General Electric because he was worried about "electrical noise being added to the video signal". He reported no problems with it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qiqhn7I1odU.html Personally, I had a powered composite/S-video switcher and it kept glitching up when certain consoles were played with S-video. For component, I have an unpowered switcher by Philips. It has four shared composite/S-video inputs and three of those inputs support component. It handled every S-video console that I threw at it, and I'm currently using it for my PS2, PS3 and Xbox with component. I think it looks great. I haven't seen any noise.

@reaperofburgers
@reaperofburgers 7 лет назад
Jarrah White I used to have a powered HDMI switcher, I had no problems with it, except when I had my Wii U plugged in an on. I usually will play my Wii U on the gamepad and grind out stuff on my Xbox or something, and it would constantly make my switcher switch to the Wii U. Which I noticed either my Wii U or Wii Us in general have this weird on/off pattern with the signal through HDMI, even when hooked up to my Xbox One through the TV import I would constantly lose and regain the signal, only ever worked perfect connected directly to my tv haha, sorry this little tangent had nothing to do with your post really.

I know you guys aren't specifically modders, but I wonder what experience you have with exchanging batteries in games that use them for SRAM backed save data? Do you pay people to do so or have you done so yourself?
@mylifeingaming
@mylifeingaming 8 лет назад
[Try4ce] Funny you should ask, because I would actually like to learn to do this and create a very simple "basic soldering" episode, with the ultimate goal being to learn to do something no more complicated than replacing batteries. I actually have never replaced any of my batteries, but I'm nervous about starting some of my RPGs before I do so.
@Nukle0n
@Nukle0n 8 лет назад
I've tried it to mixed success but the problem is that I can't find batteries with solder tabs here. If I could I'm sure that'd be a lot easier. I've also seen some modify their carts to have a battery holder instead of a soldered in battery but usually that really depends on a lot of things. It's also not like you have to swap the battery very often. I guess if you have flash carts you can just use those and leave the actual carts on the shelves, but I think you showed in an earlier episode how you liked the idea of using ips patches on actual cartridges so I assume for some people it'd still be most favorable to swap the battery in their old cart.
@mylifeingaming
@mylifeingaming 8 лет назад
[Try4ce] Well, in the case of using the IPS patches, the RetroN saves the games to the system instead of the cart. So the battery is moot in that case. But for stuff like Phantasy Star IV, which is already in English, I want to replace my battery before I start it.
@Pelladhros
@Pelladhros 8 лет назад
Battery holders tend to be better than pre-tabbed because you're not applying heat directly to the battery that shortens its life. You can also be picky about the coin battery brand and get one with a printed date of manufacture/expiration this way. Plus it only takes about ten seconds to replace it again in five to ten years. I can link you the holders you need. There does exist one low profile enough for game boy carts. Soldering is very simple and a good skill to have in general. The only risk really is screwing the cartridges back together improperly and stripping the threads.

Looking at this video, I am getting close to owning that much stuff myself... But I only like to buy the good and popular games of (mostly nintendo) consoles... However soon I will get two PVM monitors, and I already own a consumer CRT and 4K LCD... I currently own about 12 consoles with a PC for current-gen gaming. Not that many games though, but I started getting these games and consoles last year... And I only want the good ones. Work your butt off, get a nice paycheck and find good deals online. That's all there is to it... Now I just need more room :) Also, I love this channel! Keep up the great work!!

It's expensive to get it all setup correctly, but THE best Switchers for RGB signals are the Extron Matrix Switchers. I managed to get one off of eBay for $30 total. Sure, you have to go BNC, but for those with PVMs, you know the drill. :)

btw @try4ce, since you're an RE fan, I should break the ice. I never ask this of anyone, and I hate when random people come to my channel to promote themselves (I don't want it to appear that way because I think you might be genuinely interested), but please check out my channel! I don't have much on the post-production side (my full time occupation is streaming variety games on Twitch and I just dumped a 12k sub YT channel to start a new one), but it's all speedruns and no damage stuff in survival horror and action games. I've played RE and MGS at Games Done Quick in the past. I hope it might be of interest to you if you have the time to watch!
@mylifeingaming
@mylifeingaming 8 лет назад
[Try4ce] We're both really big RE fans, actually! I'm the sort that's even accepting of the newer games just because I love the world and lore that the whole series has built up over the years. :P Even though my finger isn't too close to the pulse of the speedrun community, I'm well aware of your work with GDQ stuff! I've actually thought about collaborating with the speedrunning community on game-focused episodes to get more insight into the finer points of a game's controls and mechanical design.

Amazing episode, guys. Every setup I've ever had pales in comparison to what you two have going on, I'm impressed and jealous! Thanks for the shout-out, Coury! You know how to contact me if you ever want more bead art. :D

wow, this is all so crazy! I definitely wanna use this for inspiration for my own studio that I'm trying to get set up now that I'm moving my equipment into a bigger space. I wish I'd known about the keene box that Try4ce uses, but I'm ordering a Garo from Beharbros instead to route Component to my PVM. How much did that cost, for comparison? You guys' videos are so great and I tell everyone I can about you guys when people ask me on Twitch (which is my main platform) about my RGB setup. The videos have really helped me learn a lot of things (especially the more esoteric console setups) and I am truly grateful you guys have made them.

[Try4ce] Thanks! Coury was actually using that for a while, but it wasn't working correctly with his PC Engine. He found something else that worked for everything, so he gave me that one. Someone in the UK helped him get it off eBay in the UK for about $115, he thinks? More expensive than I thought! He's using another box now to go RGB to component now, and I don't think his box goes vice-versa like mine does. It's pretty good, though I do have to make some adjustments on my PVM dials (a bit dark by default). I think the ideal situation is a second set of inputs like Coury installed on his larger PVM (as he shows in RGB 104), but for now, it's a good lazy solution for getting component systems on the PVM... though I will still mainly play them on the Framemeister.

[Coury] Going into this episode, we didn't want it to be a "look at this stuff" kind of thing, but instead "heres how we use this stuff to make the best show that we can." Who knows, maybe there will be some info here that will help out up and coming content creators on youtube

For me, anyways, fiddling with video/audio equipment, calibrating my PVMs, repairing my crap condition consoles, and experimenting with different capture options is just as much of a hobby as the gaming itself. I mean, it is challenging, you learn a ton, but most importantly it is very rewarding when you do something that just works. Love the channel guys

Just the reduce input lag is enough for me, and even though my LCD doesn't support the linetriple mode the linedouble mode looks just as good as my xrgb-mini ( i ahte the mini in 1080p the scanlines look horrible) and what with x4 and x5 modes coming soon, profiles and what ever else the community comes up with its only going to get better!

[Try4ce] I'm definitely excited about all of the possibilities. Coury has bought one, and I'm using a loaner to finish our episode. It's not quite to where I'm willing to use it in place of my Framemeister at the moment, but I can easily see a day coming where I would! The colors are definitely a lot more striking than on the Framemeister. Right now I'm worried about SNES compatibility (won't work on my TV, and NESRGB won't either). I'm very excited about 4X, but I'm suspicious that 5X might not work the way I hope. My hope is that it would be a 1080p signal cutting off overscan (rather than outputting a 240x5 signal), but I don't know if that's possible with the current hardware. I have no idea. IF so, and if I upgrade to a TV that supports SNES with no issues, then the Framemeister will be well and thoroughly defeated. :)

Yeah my SNES Mini (RGB Mod) wasnt working to start off with, i had to change the 'Analog Sync LPF' setting to 'MAX', have you tried that?

Hey Coury! great video! I have a question at 8:54 I have that same HDTV. Been trying to configure the settings so its really good for gaming what configuration did you put on it? Also does yours have global dimming/auto dimming? Because mine does and I haven't been able to turn it off.
@mylifeingaming
@mylifeingaming 8 лет назад
[Coury] YES, this is definitely a problem! I struggled iwth it for awhile, with no way to truly turn it all the way off. Some Samsung's have a way to turn off the global auto dimming in the service menu, but not here. The only way to fix it that I found was to change the settings so that it never kicks in - I found some that only makes it slightly kick in in the most extreme circumstances. Here's what I use: Picture Mode: Standard Backlight: 17 Contrast: 97 Brightness: 61 Sharpness: 0 Color: 51 Tint: 50/50 -- Screen Adjustment Picture Size: Screen Fit - Advanced Dynamic Contrast: Off Black Tone: Off Color Space: Native White Balance R-offset: 8 G-offset: 8 B-offset: 8 G-Gain: 25 G-Gain: 25 B-Gain: 25 Don't forget to set to Game Mode under the General options. The while balance is the key to making the auto brightness kinda turn off. You turn down the offsets and turn up the gain and that'll cancel it out. Since I did this, i hardly notice the auto dimming.

Hey Try4ce, what do you use the Retron 5 for if you don't mind me asking? I see a lot of retro gamers with them, but they already have hdmi devices (OSSC, Analogue's consoles, RetroUSB's AVS, etc) and it's using emulation. Just wondering what you do with it.
@mylifeingaming
@mylifeingaming 3 года назад
[Try4ce] To be honest, I really don't use it at all these days. I used it a little bit for its nifty auto-patching functionality for fan translations, but I haven't had the thing permanently hooked up in forever. I bought it before any of these FPGA consoles existed.
