Actually quite like it, weird thing, wish you guys had had the opportunity to compare the manual to the automatic. For some f'ed reason you can't have the same luxury trim in the manual as in the automatic! So the automatic that costs 3K more comes with ventilated front seats, I'm not sure, but is there another car in this price segment that comes with standard with ventilated front seats? Also, yes panoramic sunroof, but only the front one opens; the rear one does not. Otherwise really love this car, I can't compare to last years, but this model is fun and practical and also pretty good on gas when it needs to.
I've been having a debate with my friends between this, a base GTI, a Mazda3 Hatchback. All priced very similarly, all very different. The Mazda trades all the performance for luxurious cabin elements, the GTI is a good mix of both (but a pretty outdated cabin/exterior style, and a bit overpriced), and this is... well, a Hyundai. I might just have to get past my negative connotations re: the badge and just buy this, though.
Hyundai has come a long way and is really working on establishing the N models. I like that they update the tech and not just the looks and design as a lot of other "line" models do.
Great review, guys! Honestly you did a great job of thoroughly breaking down where this fits into the craziness of the sport(y) compact segment(s). I definitely have a soft spot for this car, even more so with the subtle changes for 2019/N-Line. The Civic Si and GTI are both so great in their own regard, I'd need to test drive all of them to be able to pick one. But I'm really happy to hear the handling was so respectable for the price!
They're stirring up the hive and it's great because now Toyota, Honda, Mazda and so on have to step up their game as well. Better interiors, dynamics, performance versions of cars, halo cars, etc. than ever in the last two decades !
@@rollingthunderinho In build quality and value yes, most definitely but on the other hand they've been lacking performance/halo cars for a while (Mazdaspeed, RX-7, RX-8, etc) and now that Hyundai has Genesis, Kia the Stinger, Toyota the Supra and so on Mazda is rumored to be developing a new straight-6 based sports car. So in that sense they're stepping up their game again too.
@@rollingthunderinho mazda does not sell as much cars in canada. Infact they sold less than ford did this year on their focus in Canada. The elantra, civic and corolla are the best selling right now so that comment is kinda invalid.
I dig the exterior. The proportion is on point. It's a very pleasant looking, not overly designed like the civic or somewhat controversial like the Mazda 3 rear end. The interior is typical Hyundai which is not bad. I would like to see a more premium design from Hyundai like what they've done with the palisade and the sonata. otherwise it's a well rounded vehicle.
Bought this car with a manual transmission a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. It isn't close to the fastest thing out there, but still very fun while being practical. I hope it holds up for a long time to come!
@@rogerthompson2005 reliable and still fun! I actually just put roof racks on it a few months ago. The only issue I’ve had in the first 23,000 miles was a cylinder misfire a few thousand miles ago. Dealership replaced two ignition coils under warranty and it’s been running smoothly since.
@@jeromefletcher559 Still going strong 😃 Haven’t had any additional issues and now at 31,000 miles. Added a Yakima cargo carrier to boost the practicality even further. Absolutely love the car… One thing to note, I’ve noticed other owners who bought the 7 speed DCT version seem to be experiencing issues with that transmission. Doesn’t seem to be as robust as the new 8 speed that came out on the latest N cars.
Im from Australia and I bought one of these brand new last year at 19, I wanted something that gave MK5/6 GTI vibes without to high mileage and maintenance and after 23,000 kilometres so far in just over a year, I love this car so much, it’s got good features but doesn’t have to much of anything, it’s uncomplicated and charming and this review really helped me in choosing it to buy
I don't really comment on videos BUT I just wanna say THIS CHANNEL IS THE BOMBBBB.. literally good videos that go over everything in a good way and it's actually good to watch. Also I like hyundais cars because somehow everything in thier cars are perfect whether it's the fast infotainment system or the button placements and ride quality with literally America's best Warranty. So yea KEEP IT UP
This video made me buy a black '19 N-Line in december 2019. I still own the car and it's a blast to drive! I love the look of it, inside and outside but I put a i30N spoiler on it and wraped the front and rear bottom trim red (like a i30N) and it's perfect! Cosummer report: it never saw a dealer since the day I bought it.
Canada beats the US again. We don't get red seat belts, sliding arm rest, or heated steering wheel, and we can only get the pano roof and tech package in the DCT. Having to decide between tech and manual transmission just sucks. Still a great car, and I love mine, but we need the proper N.
Totally agree: having to choose between transmission types (and spend more for the DCT!!!) in order to unlock the opportunity to buy safety features and other desirable options is annoying AF. Even VW is including in basic emergency braking and rear traffic alert features with either transmission on their GTI models, IIRC.
You guys should fly to Europe for two weeks and drive some interesting cars you don't get in North America (e.g. Hyundai i30 Fastback N) ! Fun and complete review as always. Cheers!
They did got to the Geneva Auto Show this year, and on their Insta they did talk about some EU only models. But really they should come visit Germany again, hit the Ring and drive a lot of hot hatches!
I bought a 2020 GT N Line manual and it’s the best bang for buck...installed a custom axle back with a flow master y pipe and it sounds amazing...no regrets. Beat every GTI and SI off a straight line, and bc it doesn’t have a LSD it’s a blast to drive, I don’t track the car I drive it
LOL, liar, is ugly AF! Try hard, Audi style front end grill and logo similar to the R from the Golf. Garbage cars! Just watching to see how fake they are.
Well make sure you sell it before 50k-75k Miles because that's when the entire car is just going to turn into a lump of crap everything from the engine to the electronics is just going to fall apart.
Nice detail with the phone in the phone holder while the video of you guys still played...well played. I am jealous of the N Line, I bought a 2018 Elantra Sport because of your review, still think its a bargain and a ton of fun but sorta Jealous because I imagine the handling is tuned that much better in the N Line than my Elantra which is more similar GT of last year.
I can't comment on the Sport because I've only driven the N-Line, but the N-Line has the different/upgraded steering rack and hands down my favorite thing about this car was the steering. It was weighted almost perfectly and it was total point and shoot. Good feedback and so snappy. Car is a tad rolly and the handling is very good, but not great, but the steering was really excellent.
I have watched a bunch of videos reviewing this car as I'm keen on getting one, and I have to say this video is leagues ahead of anything else I've seen. Your banter is great, love the chat, the car talk is on point and informative, to the point and no waffle. video is well edited and put together. love this channel, you guys are great, keep it up!! sidenote - i'm taking delivery of my n line in a few days and can't wait!
Purchased a used NLine Manual in red last month after watching this review. Absolutely in love! Such a value in the used market especially compared to the GTI and SI. I enjoy how it’s subtle and not in your face like the SI. Thank you for the great review!
Big fan from Toronto, here. Literally JUST purchased an Iron Gray GT N-Line. You guys led me to it! Love the car, Love your channel. Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
I just want to say that I have never bought a car before, not a new one at least and have been in the market for sometime. Your review of the Elantra GT N-Line got my attention as it fits in the category of car I was looking for and as of today, 6/27/2019, I went to the Hyundai dealership and purchased one and it was all thanks to you two and your amazing reviews. Don't stop what you're doing because the way you guys go over a car is absolutely fantastic!
Love that motor. Bought an F5 SX about three months ago and love the thing to death. You're defintely spot on about the turbo coming on in the mid to high range. They love to rev. Only issue with that motor is the oil dilution problem. Going from a car that could go 10k miles on synthetic to 3k-ish is a bummer.
You guys are doing a great job. I love your videos. I feel that the presence or lack of a limited-slip differential should be mentioned at the beginning of your videos. Keep up the good work!
@straightpiples never heard of this car till this review, after a LOT of test drives I was looking at the Civic Hatch, but after watching this video I did some searching for this car (not an easy find BTW) I tested it, and instantly fell in love and got one, so a big thanks! Keep the excellent reviews coming, you got my sub! Cheers EH! ;)
Holy hell, you guys are at nearly a half-million subscriptions! The sky's the limit, eh? Hyundai has a really interesting offering with the MT base version (in the USA). For those interested in pure driving, the base offering is great. Like the Civic Si, Hyundai leaves out all of the more advanced safety features, in the base model, though. In the USA, buyers are forced into optioning in the 7 speed DCT for 1k USD in order to gain access to a nearly 4k USD option package that includes the nifty panoramic sunroof, more advanced audio, advanced safety features, etc. That bumps the MSRP above 29k USD. The Kelly Blue Book pricing (a US pricing guide for consumers) puts the target price about 2k less. I wish that buyers weren't locked into the DCT in order to obtain the more advanced safety features (VW doesn't hamstring GTI buyers with this bullshit with the 2019 models in the USA). If a buyer in the USA is OK with the DCT (I know nothing of its performance and reliability), then the pricing is competitive with the GTI Rabbit and SE models. The Civic Hatch offerings in the States mimic this optioning bullshxt, as well, requiring a CVT in the models that offer leather and anything nicer than the base audio unit. On the review... I really like clear / legible gauges that allow the driver to see, at the quickest glance, RPM and rate of speed.
What is great about this car? 1- Not overstyled like the Civic, Veloster 2- Good simple functional interior design 3- Minimal use of gloss black plastic, still there is a little on the steering and the head unit. 4- Sounds almost good, if not great Side note- I would like the additional colours as shown in the video, and a bit more power.
Eh technically it's more than those bc Hyundai actually puts a more powerful engine in and tunes the suspension more sporty. The other " Lines " are more of just an appearance package.
Hey guys! Sorry I haven’t commented in a while but you guys are doing amazing!!! It’s a tough time to be in for everyone and y’all are still giving it everything you got. I went back to watch this review recently because I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on one of these now that lease rates are dirt. It’ll be my first Hyundai product and I couldn’t be more excited!!! I was really looking forward to getting a GTI but convinced this is a good cheaper alternative. Thanks again for the awesome review! I’ll be getting mine in Intense Blue with the performance exhaust upgrade! Let me know if y’all ever wana check it out lmao
These are awesome little cars. You can do some basic bolt on upgrades, maybe a bigger turbo and push 240-270whp and the 1.6 holds very well. One of the best daily’s you can have right now. And since the 2019’s are 5 years old now they have gotten quite a bit cheaper compared to other Hyundais because no one really wants a i4 turbo manual fwd in North America except enthusiasts
Saw one i30 N fastback on the road the other day (Melbourne, AUS), dame it is gorgeous! Would like to trade in my Q50 RS for an 8DCT one later this year.
Would help a little if these guys spent 10 min reading up on and looking over the cars they review. It's like they don't look it over before turning the camera on. (GTI arm rest as an example is not exactly hidden or complex - just pull it fwd) - RTFM -
@@masterv2118 I do agree, but on the other hand these guys are much better than some hacks I've seen make car reviews before. I enjoy watching them because they don't just rattle off statistics, but actually give real opinions on the cars they review. I daily drive a 2002 VW Golf with over 226k on it, and even though it's almost 18 years old, it still drives great and gets me 28+MPG on my commute. I wish they did more used car reviews.
Not quite correct. The GTI has a larger sunroof than most of its rivals and much larger than the previous MK6 GTI. (I've owned both.) But it's not nearly as large as the Elantra's which has a true panoramic sunroof. I know about this stuff because I live in the cloudy Seattle area where getting as much light into a dark GTI cabin with black leather seats is more than a nit.
Thanks for the great review guys. I picked up my i30 N-Line “Premium” here in Australia last week. I didn’t know about the centre console being able to move forward so that was new! Such a fun car to drive. Cheers!
@@rogerthompson2005, it’s been perfectly fine. Nearly 20,000km’s on it now, with lockdowns that’s not much. Enjoy your purchase! What colour did you get?
You guys are great! I loved this thorough review. I'm a Hyundai regular; my last two cars have been Hyundais and I really like them. I'm thinking of stepping up and buying the 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N-Line so this video helped me get a better idea of what I would be getting. Thanks so much!
Great review! Neat car and reminds me of my mk6 GTI. I liked the moment when you showed the phone holder and you edited the video of you guys talking about it in the phone and lowered the resolution. Nice touch ;)
I wish the manual came with it too, but I bit the dust and bought it anyway. I have no regrets so far. The only thing I really miss is the sunroof tbh.
A consideration that should be mentioned is the IIHS safety rating. The Elantra GT and VW GTI are Top Safety Picks, the Ford and Honda don’t make that grade.
So I’m looking at this video for buying a used 2018 Elantra, awesome video! I’m curious how the 2018 and 2019 have held up and if the N isn’t available used, would you still recommend the Elantra GT? Thanks!!
So here in Australia we have: i30 N-Line with manual/DCT. i30 N-Line Premium DCT only. Trim changes/trinkets are the difference. i30 N manual only with two option packs to make it "premium". i30 Fastback N. Yes that's how's sold and it's manual only.
I JUST picked up my new GT N-line (6 M/T) in Summit Gray this weekend and I love it! You guys and your review helped push me over the edge and made my decision easy. Thanks for the reviews and the awesome vids guys. Keep it up!! Looking forward to more!
The base model in the US is different. First off it costs 24,000 (MSRP), and does not come standard with the Panoramic roof or heated steering wheel. There is only one option (package) that costs $3,800. That package includes a lot of great features like ventilated seats, wireless charging pad, panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision avoidance and other safety features (things that people really want)....so combined you're looking at 28K for the manual and 30k for the automatic. That’s practically mid-range GTI money. If the base model of this Hyundai came with more standard safety features it would be a much better buy. The GTI has more HP, way more torque, nicer materials (and shockingly a better warranty).
If you try to compare it based on features this would compare to a GTI SE making the Elantra GT N-Line $4,655 cheaper and even then the Elantra has features that you can't get in a GTI. You can't get a manual and the $3800 tech package with the Elantra GT N-Line in the US which is a bummer so you have to get the DCT. VW has a better bumper to bumper warranty at 6 years 72,000 miles vs Hyundai's 5 year 60,000 mile but it also has a 10 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. You can't lose going either way.
@@aarond1623 The only two features I can think of are the panoramic sunroof and the ventilated seats? Any others that I'm missing? You can't even get ventilated seats on the Golf R, have never understood that. But now you can get them on the new GLI, its very bizarre. I agree with you, can't go wrong, either way, both are great cars. Not 100% sure but I don't think the Hyundai comes with an LSD? I think the best bang for your buck would be to get a one-year-old GTI, let someone else take the hit on the depreciation, and you're still left with a 5-year warranty.
@@benvernick If you can get them for well less than that then it kinda defeats the point of harping on the price don't ya think, man? If we're talking about the actual prices you'll pay for these cars you're looking at much less than a mid trim GTI
"Two videos a week, that's it." Outlines my only problem with this show in the first like minute. Great show, you guys, thank you for all of your amazing content.
Do you work in Portland Oregon? I work at Hyundai / Genesis in Vancouver Wa. I just took a customer out in a GT nline while I was watching this and they loved it. I used some of the points i saw here that you guys made in my sales pitch and it was perfect!
I just picked one of these up on lease. Two things: 1) needs a quicker steering rack for sporty driving (especially with DCT paddles like mine) 2) I love the looks because it looks like a mini station wagon
@@rogerthompson2005 it's been mostly fine. Had a couple things fixed under warranty (exhaust broke, the steering column TSB). Wish I had gotten a manual one though. I was expecting DSG-like performance but I learned the hard way that not all DCTs are the same.
Drove this the other day. Loved it but the equipment levels drive me nuts. The one I drove had all the safety equipment except blind spot monitoring (not available in the U.S. this year). Why? So of course there is a blank plug for this missing feature. Then there is a blank plug for the headlight adjustment feature. On the console they have heated and cooled seats (unlike the Kona) but no auto start stop (not in the U.S.) and no heated steering wheel (available in Canada but again not in the U.S.). It feels as if someone at Hyundai U.S. in California just picked things at random to leave off. Driving wise it was awesome but those little feature things make me question pulling the trigger.
No need to apologize for being honest about your preferences guys. There seems to be so much VW fan boying and fanfare lately. They make great vehicles, but some people are so biased with them much like some of the hardcore Honda people. Keep it up with the great content.
It sort of reminds me of my old Mazda Protege5 than anything else. Its a sporty smaller wagons style. I miss my Protege5. Should never have sold it 16 years ago...
I work at a Hyundai dealership (kind of close to you guys) and its a pretty exciting time to be doing so. I've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to drive the Veloster N and a few of the Genesis's. I really hope they do a Genesis G80 N. The 5.0 in the G80 is already fast as hell and if they were to do a higher power version that would just be insane.
Awesome the way that you change colors of the car while it's moving! Adobe stuff? I'll definitely wrap the little paint section between the pano roof and rear spoiler to have it all black!
This is my go to channel when it comes to car reviews. I was able to get a pre-owned 18’ Elantra GT Sport 6spd Really enjoying the car so far specially the ride and infotainment ! Haha Will definitely upgrade for an NLine later this year.
