@@mohammadshahin4922 yeah MN goes by a different tier system for HS that's A and AA and it's based of population of the school more than skill level. But, AA is the top level for HS
Thank you! But I’d say a school like Hill-Murray or another private takes that cake. There’s that old saying, “that time of year when the North hates the Metro and the Metro hates Private schools and Everyone hates Edina”
Would love to see the medal presentation that happened after -- every player shook hands and said "thank you" in a manner that was all class. Very proud to be a Hornet, Curt Giles has done a great job with the hockey program and it's a great school, and great place to grow up. Hate us all you want. We can take it.
@@elijahwright8745 I'm sure with all the great athletes in Alabama you could have some great hockey teams. The only disadvantage is the weather. In Minnesota we could play anywhere there was water in the winter time
Lived in Twin Cities for 3 years. Already a huge hockey fan. The HS tourney is beyond epic. Where else do 16-18 yr olds fill an NHL stadium to SRO for a game? Miss it.
I was a team captain for 2 straight Georgia AA state championships and undefeated seasons. The tourneys were in local rinks that looked as full as a Minnesota learn to skate. Oof
mike hanzal Give the kid a break. Eden Prairie had played 3 games in 3 days and 2 of them were OT games.. The first game went into triple OT - one of the longest in Minnesota history. The first game of the tournament went so long that they were going to suspend the game until the next morning at 8 am, so the winner would have had to play another game later in the day. Eden Prairie played the equivalent of 4 games in 3 days. I’m sure the whole team was pretty exhausted and you could see it on the GW goal. Everybody was just kind of standing around. Eden Prairie outplayed and completely shut down Edina for the entire game aside from about 5 minutes and deserved to win.
@@RU-vid.Algorithmic.Nonsense lol are you ok? They all played 3 games in 3 days. Excuses are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink. This is a terrible take.
Yeah I feel for the kid. Unnecessary pass with bouncing puck and then not picking up the late guy had to hurt. Hopefully he uses this as motivation to keep working hard. If you play the game these things happen.
I played HS hockey in Michigan in the late 70’s. Hockey was blowing up. We made it to the state championship and had maybe 3500 people in the stands. The level of play was very high. Today? They play in front of under 1000 at some lame rink in Plymouth. It’s sad. Minnesota teams play most of their season on lame rinks with no fans, but the state tournament makes up for that. They also let Junior and travel players play both HS and travel at the same time, which Michigan doesn’t. That’s why MN teams have more depth.
Damn I wish I lived in Minnesota 😭 Edit: as of this edit on july 14, 2020 (original comment was made around February or March of 2020), some shit has happened with the libs over there and Minnesota isn't looking too good rn
@@hendricksonrunner5015 well yeah, when it comes to politics and in light of recent events ur state seems kinda shit ngl, at least minneapolis and it's surrounding areas
Michigan today has only 4 of 5 teams that can play to this level. Every year the number of schools that drop hockey increases. It’s sad. I played in Flint in the late 70’s. We had 26 HS hockey teams in the county. Today? 2 are left.
@@acerothstein4755 Isn't club hockey much bigger in Michigan though? Yeah, not having tons of grassroots level support sucks when the school system isn't involved but the talent level is still really high at the club level which matters most I'd say. It's the same thing here in Canada. Midget AAA Major clubs here might only get a few hundred fans a game but there will be like 7-8 CHL draft picks on the ice and the quality is high. Tradeoffs.
It’s amazing how big the MSHSL’s boys state hockey tournament is- 18,000 people in one arena for a high school tournament game? That’s unheard of in most other parts of the country. Meanwhile, the WIAA’s boys state hockey tournament in Wisconsin is so laughable. It’s played at a USHL arena that barely holds 3,000 people.
Wow i had heard about it but i never really thought true high school hockey existed. I guess only around the midwest united states its part of the Culture there.
After only a couple of years playing aa travel in my state which was better then some of the aaa teams not talking out my ass but yk I’m not joking thinking we were good hockey players watching Minnesota highschool hockey just makes me embarrassed haha they’re just on another level I’ll never be able to understand
@@gdprice79 Not technically. A and AA only indicates the school’s size. Some A teams like Hermantown and Mahtomedi can destroy most AA teams. But aside from that, AA teams are better cuz they get more kids to pick = more talents and they have more depths. And both classes are insanely good at developing d1 players. Even NHLer sometimes as there were 7 kids from this league drafted in 2020.
Skyler Rivers It’s about the numbers and athletes. If it was just about money schools like Edina, Minnetonka, and Woodbury would dominate every sport. They don’t.
I was thinking the same thing. It’s the agony of sports. Don’t sweat it, kid…you’ll have more stories and emotion to share with your teammates for 50 years than the champions. That’s how it works.
I’ve never seen High School level hockey with a fan base like that in Canada. Wow. We have Junior Major Hockey that’s important but they don’t draw like this.
Classic Quads that’s until you walk into Canada any Canadian team would toy e these boys my team last year had 10 D1 recruits along w a ton of whl boys
yeah except these teams are stacked with NCAA D1 players and soon to be USHL players... and a couple NHL draft picks... also Jr B rosters are stacked to the gills with 18-20 year olds, these kids are average age of 16.5 or so.
ehhh, not really, it's just the depth of the teams... i suggest you watch some minnesota high school selects games, mostly made up of players who will play Division 1 NCAA / Major Junior or at worst Junior A AJHL/BCHL
