RAF Red Arrows
2019 New York International Air Show
New York Stewart International Airport
New Windsor, New York
Friday August 23, 2019
Making their debut performance over New York/Stewart International Airport as part of their nearly two-month long WESTERN HAWK 19 tour of North America, the Royal Air Force's Red Arrows take the stage for a FANTASTIC performance over New York. It has been eleven long years or a long decade since the Red Arrows have been stateside and it is such an honor and pleasure to see the ambassadors of the Royal Air Force on this side of the pond.
Then later on after the show, the Red Arrows departed to the Hamptons, Long Island, NY for a special flyover as part of the long history North American Tour of which I didn’t film that part of the day.

Being a brit call me biased but I have to agree (For reference I grew up in a town watching them every-single-year and wasn't impressed, Now I know better of what the details are and how well its done they can bring this grown ass man to tears). I have huge respect for many other nations teams and I suggest others go check them out, The tricolori, The russian knights and the french......but they dont print a fucking nations flag in the sky (well okay maybe the french flag on the ground, but others could say its a dutch flag depending which way you look at it). I'd love to see them joined by the another 4man team to do the full 13 stripes however.

Well I see the red arrows display once a year where I live in the channel islands off the coast of England and I actually love your American aircraft better than our own brother hahaha yours sound mean and nasty hahaha but you know what my friend my favourite aircraft is your US made Apache helicopter gunships they are brilliant but we don't see anyone jets now and our show is boring so I don't bother going to see our air show anymore because they just keep on using these poxy planes now that we see in every day life lol but one aircraft i would really love to see is the new F35 Raptors that are built by Lockheed Martin and royal Royce partnership brothers and sisters brother the new stealth that takes off like our British Harriers

Practice practice practice. Sometimes, they're so close you can smell the av-gas exhaust. @Bobby Brady RAF saved Britain from invasion therefore allowing it become a platform for the invasion of Europe and later in the war helped in equal and in fact more than equal measure to destroy the German peoples will to fight and ability to produce and manufacture . it was a significant factor that allows statements like "saved the free world" to be made ,strictly accurate or not !

@Bobby Brady Yes. A bit of a sweeping statement to make, particularly on what could be American Territory. However, The Battle of Britain was a pivotal moment in WW2 and I think that is a better tribute to the Royal Air Force. Of course not just British pilots took part. Aviators from around the world joined the battle. Including Americans.

So proud to watch our very own Red Arrows wow'ing the US audience, I agree with one of the comments below that the way that the team show all of their formation work and how precise it is in every element, is really what differentiates the Red Arrows from other large formation teams. Having had the pleasure of seeing the Blue Angels, I can say without reservation, they are fantastic at what they do and have great impact as they blast across the display area. Since they do most of the formation changes away from the display window, the down side is there is always a little delay in waiting for the next pass etc. All the technically difficult multi-formation work the red arrows have to do, is performed in full view of the crowd and all the expert technical critics, which is why everything they do has to have continuity but also be both balletic and "nuero surgically" precise. In this display I particularly loved the way the full formation climbed vertically disappeard at the top of the climb and moments later burst out of the cloud, that was epic and you could hear the crowd appreciate the drama of of it. (I think its at 8mins in).

The first time I saw them was in the mid to late 60s at RAF Valley. I saw them several more times at the Woodford Air Show in the 70s when they were flying the Folland Gnat. One of the things they did then, which they can't do any more at the beginning of the display, just after the announcement, was while the crowd were looking forward, they came from behind and scared the living daylights out of everyone.

I remember going to Bournmouth once, years ago, just for a day out. We parked the car in a road not far from the beach, when suddenly we heard this enormous noise, looked up & there were the red arrows, flying in formation, right down the road. To say it was overwhelming would be an understatement. We didn't know they were going to be there. They are fabulous.

Yes, many apply, but few get to be a Red. And these are elite pilots, many of them pilot trainers themselves and all of them serving RAF pilots. But it takes something indefinable to make the grade. They really are 'the best of the best'. And then they serve with the Reds for 3 years then return to active duty. Of course, Red 1 is always a previously serving Red, who returns as 'the Boss' for a 3 year period. Red 10 is a little different - and I think Mike Ling has to be one of the longest-serving! I believe he now flies with The Blades (another British formation team based in Yorkshire - yay!), who fly 'Extras' - which can't perform the high speed manoeuvres at which the Reds excel, but they certainly perform some aerobatics which are ... familiar! As their commentator never tired of telling us - the pilots are all ex Red Arrows (although I believe one of them wasn't at one point!).

I think the statement at 6.08 summed the Red Arrows up perfectly. As a proud Brit I understandibly feel they are the best, but let's face it, all the aerobatic teams are pure skill and ability. They just perform different things in different ways. They give us the best of all options, and for that I thank them.
@Hattonbank
@Hattonbank 3 года назад
That is the best statement yet amongst all of them. I have seen teams since the 1970;s, from the German Starfighters right up to 2019 displays. All of the national teams are superb, and like you say, all slightly different. We can sometimes get a little familiar with the Reds, seeing them so often, but see them on their own or somewhere like RIAT in conjunction with 3 or more other teams and you see the different styles that teams put on. My favourites along with the Reds would be the Swiss team with their F-5's, and the South Korean team in theit T-50's. The T=Birds are very professional in their F-16's, but not exciting, I do remember seeing them way back when they toured Europe flying their F-4's, that was more interesting as the F-4 was quite a handful to fly in an aerobatic team. Like you say, they are all different in their own way, whether a two ship or ten ship formation, and that's good.

Great filming. Iv’e struggled to film them in the past but you truly captured the spirit of the reds.

So no Scottish or Welsh or Irish pilots then ....just English.....just like the war .....England v Germany......I wonder why my grandad went off for five years to fight with England ??? Even though he was Scottish.....20 of my grandads pals all signed up on the same day together.... 6 came back....all for England.....god bless the queen of England.

Calm your tits! I’m English too but I very well know the sacrifices all of BRITIAN 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇯🇪gave not just England and I’m sure he just said “from England” as a suggestion that he is specifically from England himself and I’m sure he meant no offence. His knowledge of the red arrows or of the contributions and sacrifices in the world wars is probably a bit dull so I apologise on his behalf.

Ditto! As a Brit there is nothing I love more than hearing a Yank shout " Holy Shit!" - it was awesome and I rewound it about 3 times and it still amuses me everytime - God bless America!
