I was pleasantly surprised to find the Ninja 1000 is indeed a very good bike.

G’day from Sydney, Aus. Love your adrenaline filled vids! I’m a 60yr old Ducati rider and while I love my V2 torque I think back to my youth, I rode all early in-line fours (and in-line 6’s), could wheelie them all, but the Kawasaki’s always felt like the most solid engine!
@RickyJr46
@RickyJr46 3 года назад
Daryl, these Kawasakis have a very wide powerband, and they are still strong at low revs where many twins are getting snatchy. Roll through town in 6th gear? Easy. Pull away from a stop in 4th gear if you're not paying attention? Can do!
@darylclifford
@darylclifford 3 года назад
@@RickyJr46 You’re dead right! My V2 doesn’t like it much under the 3k rpm mark. The Kawasaki’s can let you be nice and lazy I agree!

This Zed motor reminds me of a good V-8 powerband, very flexible and wide. The shifter lever could fall off and it would be miles before you noticed!

Great bike. Awesome motor. Sold mine because I feel the fixed angle of the bars (grips) is slightly wrong. I found this mentioned in a review and it made me feel ‘yes I’m not just imagining it.’ Excellent traction control on these and you’re right: it’s too heavy for proper track duty. It’s a ripper of a touring bike. Great video CR! ⚡️

Thanks man. I didn't have it long term, but rode it for a good 5 hours non-stop one day and the ergonomics felt okay for me. I actually enjoyed being leaned forward slightly, took some of the weight off my lower back that I get on the XR.

It was my bike before my s1000xr. In France, it was called Z1000 SX and SX tourer if you buy it with the suitcases. I loved its flexibility at low engine speed but compared to the xr, it is small, not very comfortable at 2, it lacks liveliness on changes of direction. In 2020, the new model improves a lot and adopts the same name: Ninja 1000 SX

As a Multi owner, I do miss Japanese reliability and this bike has been on the top of my list as a potential replacement for my 2013 Multistrada. The 2020 model would definitely be the way to go with all the significant upgrades.
@CubanRider

That's an excellent point. I did a fair amount of research when the S1000XR came out since that engine had been on the S1000R for some time. I haven't done much reading on the Ninja's 1043cc, but considering how long it's been around, I'm sure it's got a good track record.

@CubanRider
@CubanRider 3 года назад
Much cheaper indeed, and with all the technology on the 2020+, it makes you wonder if it's work spending nearly $10k more for similar bikes.
@carlosalonso9866
@carlosalonso9866 Год назад
If you define not being in the same league price wise and in terms of comfort creatures (connectivity and semi-active suspension) you’re of course right. In terms of real world performance your notion of a « league » must be a small one. If you look at Revzilla’s vido « Are sport touring bikes faster than super bikes » which features, among others the s1000xr and the Ninja 1000sx, the differences are not that big and -more relevant to me- as I ride a lot in the Alps and other European mountain ranges and I need a bike comfy enough to get there and engaging enough once in the mountain passes, there are several comparisons by austrian and italian motor-journalists that conclude that the Ninja is the better of the two bikes in mountain passes as it makes more torque ealier in the rev-range whereas in the mountains the BMW runs out of straight lines to get to the engime regime where it excels, which is way more up in the rev-range.🤞

TJ, I think it was in 2017 that my local dealership had a XZ14R in all black, it had just gotten a refresh and it had the Brembo brakes, updated gauges and a few other changes I can't remember now. I was sooo tempted to buy it man. I've always loved those beasts.

Have you tried the Versys 1000, which seems more directly comparable to the XR? It shares the same engine (I think), but more upright, etc. Neither are competition for the brilliant S1000XR, but I sometimes rent bikes and like to better understand the relative merits when my choices are constrained.
@ThaSideWeed
@ThaSideWeed 3 года назад
I'd look away from the versys if your style of riding is similar to Cuban's. Suspension's pretty mushy, the bike is significantly heavier, electronics are kind of meh. Would be a pretty good choice for "calm" touring though. If I were less aggressive and would do more passenger touring, I'd probably prefer a Versys vs my XR.
@bernhtp
@bernhtp 3 года назад
@@ThaSideWeed Thanks. That's what I figured. I ride (mostly) like Cuban, though his skills are a bit higher along with his aggressiveness, but there's not a big delta in either. When I can't get an XR, I normally opt for the GS. I don't know about the Tiger, which is sometimes also an option.

I thought I heard rear wheel chirping at 1.15, then you confirmed it later on. Did you have the traction control off to be able to wheelie? I think a lot of adventure riders are unhappy with traction control because it doesn't brake as well in the dirt, especially if you want the rear to lock to control direction. Thanks for the video CR. I have always liked Kawasaki 4 cylinder bikes. Love the Z900 RS, reminds me of my 73 Z1.
@CubanRider
@CubanRider 3 года назад
Yes. I tried to wheelie with T/C on but that was a no-go. This bike had ABS, but once I disabled T/C the rear end would slide around a little bit. I want to ride the Z900 RS next!
@seniorrider9337
@seniorrider9337 3 года назад
@@CubanRider I haven't ridden either, but I have read the Z900 RS is not as powerful and the fueling at small throttle openings is kind of jerky. I would love to have one of each, but then I would need a nice garage to keep them in. Nothing cubic money wouldn't cure. If I win a lottery, watch out! LOL! Stay and ride safe. makes me sad that it surprised you this was a good bike. these things have been moving people on back road tours for the last 10 years for a reason. the z is just as good you have all that torque on a lighter bike, 460lbs with a full system. either way throw and ivans tune and akra header on it and it makes 146 hp, which a manufacturer would call 155-160.
